Is it just me or does it feel like the underdogs of the main and co main are live dogs at first glance?  De Randamie has been up there vs the best like Holly Holm (who she beat) and Nunes (she lost tho, but still).  Same goes for Faber...

I was also wondering why Faber wanted to comeback after a 2 1/2 year lay off, it appears that he is not convinced of today's fighters  Cheesy

@ Saint-loup: The fight was not that close, the first round was close and the last round was close but the rest of the fight Jones was dominating and the judges messed this up giving a split decision, Santos was really struggling to stand properly from the first round but he stood his ground but Jones was always pressing forward.

I respectfully disagree. For me round 1 and 2 were for Santos. Round 5 was the decisive one and could have gone either way.
Jones won because he had more stamina and was always pressuring his opponent but Santos gave the most efficient strikes.
I don't disagree with the final decision but I think it would not have been an outrage had Santos been given the victory.
He was very impressive, Jones was disappointing (wrong game plan probably).

What about that crazy knee from Masvidal ? I mean wtf ! I didn't like his cocky attitude after the knockout but still... wow ! I sure wasn't expecting that, I don't think anyone was.

Nunes also was impressive, she has now beaten every former UFC champ in her division. I don't know much about women mma but it's obvious that she's above the others.

I also really enjoyed the Chiesa fight, definitely my kind of fight. The guy deserves a better rank in his division, it's just a matter of time.

Overall, it was a very good card with very entertaining fights.

Predicting these two chicks on the ring on who's gonna win, Well, Germaine De Randamie has a certain power that loves submission moves and will totally lock you on the ground while I guess that Aspen Ladd was great in her punching technique, If you would look on their stats Randamie had an upper hand with Ladd in her height and reach But I guess if Ladd would hit her even with 1 punch the winner is pretty obvious, But if you would look at the power I think that Ladd can sure win this that is why my bet is with her.

Must be. He had been fighting for years and years he must miss the cage and the crowd roaring for him. If he feels the need to avenge the fighters he trained I guess this is his way to do it and prove to his trained fighters that he still can do it.

The "miss" factor is like a virus in every fighter. Once a fighter, always a fighter I guess. The Iceman, The Natural, and other UFC legends have also re-entered the octagon after their retirement.

Or perhaps the smell of a paycheck is really enticing.

Oh my! Urijah? Are you serious!? The 40-year old Hall-of-Famer is going to get back inside the octagon? Does he have anything else to prove? I bet it's dead boring when a fighter ceases to be a fighter anymore.

Just checked out wiki - 40 years... He looks 25+; maybe close to 30, not more.
Btw, Randy Couture retired from sport at the age of 47, which means Urijah still have time  Cheesy

Dustin Poirier might learn something from Jorge Masvidal's line of action versus a wrestler. Ben Askren's first reaction when he saw Jorge running was to shoot to secure the double leg. However, Jorge knew this and connected his knee to Ben's face.

Also, there was a sex kitten.

I wouldn't tap those cheeks if I were you. The tattoo says "touch it, try touching it and you'll see."

^ ^ ^  She is (still) hot!

Anyway watch Jones' part of the post fight press conference too.  He's a good talker even if you know it's all fake humble.  But he knows how to be in front of a crowd.  Smiley  He also said he was open to a match vs the winner of Cormier vs Miocic...  At HW, noice!

I agree, it was a blue print on how to beat a wrestler, but to do it in what? less that 5 seconds is amazing. I don't know if someone has break that record though. It was really fast and bizarre, and if you blink you may have missed it.

Is this the end of the road for Ben Askren, I don't think so. He may have to go back to the drawing board again. But I'm sure he will continue with his mouth in his next fight.

It was excepted for Askren to end the fight like this someday. He uses only 2-3 moves. It's like playing fighting game and used only 1 button to win. That is what Askren is about.

Here are the results for UFC 239
Jon Jones (c)         def.   Thiago Santos   Decision (split) (48-47, 47-48, 48-47)
Never expected Jones and Santos to be that close. Great showing for both fighters.
Jones did not take the easy route here which is to take Santos to the ground and pound/submit him. His game plan was to beat Thiago in his own game which is stand up. It's not the smartest of strategy imo but it's respectable.

Jorge Masvidal         def.   Ben Askren   KO (flying knee)
I was rooting for Askren but the way he was defeated was just  Shocked Shocked Shocked It was like 3 seconds.
Jorge's strategy from the beginning makes perfect sense.
I have to replay that flying knee over and over again, lol, it was brilliant, Askren didn't see it coming. I mean everyone didn't actually. When the bell rings, Jorge is just cool and then boom, once those knee hits Askren, it's over before he hits the floor. I was also rooting for Askren, so much hype around him, but with the way Jorge KO him, I don't know, his stock is back to zero now.

I am more focus on the main event but after seeing how Jorge Masvidal handled Ben Askren it was really epic in Masvidal part in handling funky down with a flying knee then a 2 punch was hit after the referee stops the fight, That was a total to intense and fast fight and I think this  will start to change Masvidal career in  a good way, Even though he had so many lost in the past I think this performance had toppled it all,

While on Jon Jones and Thiago Santos case it was a pretty close fight and many had said on twitter mostly MMA fighters too would think that Santos did win And if it weren't with Thiago Santos injury the fight may have a different outcome I might say after watching the fight Santos really was a beast in the ring and have shown it to the audience, I have bet for Jones on these but I think Santos really won the fight, But as the saying goes you need to really beat the champ to be the champ so Respect for both of them and congrats to Jones.

^  It could be an opportunity for Cormier to get back down at LHW and give it another go vs Jones imo.  And I recommend everybody watch the post fight interview.  Skip it to Masvidal.  Grin
