Yes, it could happen that Lionel Messi will break the record set by Cristiano Ronaldo while he was playing in the Champions League. 12 goals is the goal difference between these two players, so that's a very likely thing to happen, especially now that Cristiano Ronaldo will not add to his coffers because he is no longer in the Champions League, while Lionel Messi will continue to be active there. Lionel Messi's contract extension will also increase his chances of returning to play in the Champions League next season with Paris Saint-Germain. Because I see that it is certain that Paris Saint-Germain will return to participate in the highest football caste in Europe.

It will be difficult for Messi I think if he is not going to play more than 2-3 seasons. In Champions League Messi has not scored with Paris as many goals as he has scored with Barcelona and I doubt this is going to change.Paris has its main objective to win the Champions League and they will not care much of furnishing Messi with a lot of balls, they just need to get past their adversaries and score.

The time though clearly permit to Messi to score more than 12 goals during these 3 seasons which I am assuming he will be playing including this one we are already in the middle of it.This does not mean that if Messi scores more goals than Ronaldo is a better player than him, they both have won a couple of times the Ballon D'Or so for me they are the two greatest players of our time,as simple as that.
The chance is still there, even though it's a little difficult as long as he's at PSG, so anything can still happen, especially if you look at Ronaldo's current condition, who won't be in the Champions League anymore, so this is an opportunity for Messi.

But it really depends on Messi too, we don't know what the future will be like. maybe this season he will still stay at PSG and the guarantee of the Champions League is still there but we won't know what will happen in the following seasons.
It's only a matter of time whether we can answer that or not.
As for the greatest players at the moment, I think the word GOAT for them is enough to prove that they deserve to wear that as their current nickname.

I'm not sure Liverpool will be able to take revenge well in Real Madrid's match later, as you said Real Madrid are used to in the UCL so they know how to deal with opponents even though there are not many squad teams who might be better than Liverpool, I'm sure Ream Madrid will easily get rid of liverpool
It sounds as if no team can beat Real Madrid in Europe. Come on. We've heard this phrase too many times. We are also very confident that Liverpool can beat Real Madrid in the round of 16 even though most pundits say Real Madrid is too strong for Liverpool to beat.

The game of football is not like math, but what we know is that football is a sport that always emphasizes teamwork. No matter how strong the team is, there is a chance to win.
Let's say Liverpool can't get revenge in the UCL and Real Madrid go through to the next round, but we have to believe that there will be other teams that can stop their journey.

yeah, we see this with Man City as well, Champions League is different somehow, not any club can win it even with one of the best players, but the time will come eventually, i believe that this season's title will go for either PSG or Man City, if PSG goes past Bayern Munich i will put them first to win it, unless Real Madrid comes out of nowhere again Grin

I prefer to put Man City over PSG. Madrid will also run an untimely final against Liverpool. it's not easy but it could benefit Madrid as well when he goes through.
This season, the Champions League seems to be full of surprises. hope Benfica and Frankfurt can produce surprising results by qualifying for the next phase.

Fortunately, Man City did not get too tough opponents in the round of 16 later. so, it is very likely that The Citizen will pass easily to the next phase. because after all, Leipzig is not a match for City. Madrid has a match that can be said to be neither easy nor tough. because actually Liverpool has not shown its true performance. except, Klopp has a formula to face Madrid later and hope to have luck.

maybe Benfica can overthrow Club Brugge, but they will face tougher opponents in the next round phase. for Frankfurt, it's hard to imagine that Oliver Glasner's men toppled Napoli even though they had the advantage of playing at home in the first leg. except, Napoli lost some important pillars such as for example, Victor Osimhen.
and to be honest, the most interesting match is PSG vs Bayern Munich. this fight, is the final match before time.

Whatever Messi does shouldn't bother you too much they are both great players no need to compare
Ronaldo will be missed the media also criticize him too much.
The two fans always compare these two great players and the debate is always a hot topic, but these two players, both Ronaldo and Messi, respect each other and I have never found them attacking each other or claiming to be a greater player, after all, is there any a record that will never be broken later if it's not Messi there will be another great player who will be born and make a more fantastic record, so it's true that we don't need to always compare both players

The competition between these two players is endless, although now that Ronaldo has joined Al-Nassr and certainly cannot participate in the UCL, it seems that this will determine who is the top scorer in UCL history. We know that Messi will likely still be in PSG uniform for one more season, it is very likely that Messi can break Ronaldo's number of goals if his performance does not decline.
It's not too difficult for Messi to find an additional 12 goals in the Champions League to equal Ronaldo goal tally. The latest news that I read, Messi will soon extend his tenure with PSG. This news certainly makes Messi appear again in the Champions League next season to cut minus the number of goals that Ronaldo has obtained.

Ronaldo is certainly not happy if Messi is the one who broke his record as the top scorer in the Champions League, not to mention that Messi has just won the world cup trophy with Argentina. These two players are friendly off the pitch, but when on the pitch they will always try to be the best.

As Ronaldo has signed for Al-Nassr now, I wonder if Messi will be able to get past Ronaldo's goal amount in the Champions League before his retirement.

I assume Ronaldo will retire at the team he is going to now. Even if he returns to Europe one last time I don't think there would be a big team to be interested in him. He can still play in the Champions League then if he becomes okay to playing for an average team that have qualified for the tournament. But I still don't expect any of these to happen. Messi doesn't have a big gap with Ronaldo considering these numbers. He is already very productive and I expect him to play even one more season at PSG. This is enough time for him to break the goal record.
The statistics say that yeah cristiano are the mr champions league.

But with 12 goals away from messi and very possible in the next two years of cristiano missing the champions league ... the title might taken away and would be feel so hurting to have that stats taken over by the rival , champions league would be just the same even without cristiano.

I have no doubt that the other big title contenders must be wishing Liverpool to eliminate Real Madrid in this stage.  Grin

Because maybe Real Madrid don't have the strongest squad on paper but they have been reigning in the Champions League for long years. They know how to deal with any kind of opponent here very well. The previous season was a good example for that. They were almost being eliminated by Manchester City though but they even made a comeback in such situation. This is an opportunity for Liverpool to have some revenge on them as well actually. Because Real Madrid have a strong history against them. Liverpool are much stronger here now comparing to their EPL effort. But let's see.  Smiley

The difference of 12 goals is not a big amount to chase, Messi is still active in the Champions League and has the opportunity to continue to add to his number of goals. While Ronaldo will automatically not appear in the UCL after defending Al Nassr, Ronaldo's 141 goals will stop as long as Ronaldo defends Al Nassr.

Messi has a great chance to surpass Ronaldo goal record in the UCL, at least for the next two years Messi will be able to pass him. Their rivalry will heat up if Messi is able to surpass Ronaldo record while placing Messi as the top scorer in the UCL, but Messi is unable to break Ronaldo's highest salary record.

It has always been a tough match between Bayern and PSG, even when PSG team were not as good as it is now. I know that the arrival of Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, and Neymar, in PsG, shows how desperate the club needed a trophy, and I believe it is going to be a great fight from the three world cup stars.
Bayer Munich in the other hand, are already showing signs weakness. Injury on their number one keeper is a big deficiency to the match because an attacking line that involves, Messi, Mbappe and Neymar, is quite a dangerous one. I
agreed, i just remind you that if messi has so many bad results against bayern. Just caused by neuer and mane won’t play and it didn’t mean if bayern can be beaten easily. The fact that if bayern can also find replacements for both. Bayern may come with the new players that will be bought during the transfer season. I have heard that if bayern has been targetting some players. That means if bayern will come with new formations. I would like to see who will be the new keeper for bayern. The match is still a long way to go. Bayern have enough time to do more preparations before it will be facing psg. I hope that both will perform with the best squads. Bayern has opportunity to beat psg.
It's going to be a big match between Paris Saint-Germain and FC Bayern München on February 14th. Against Bayern Munich in the UCL, PSG has an excellent chance awaiting them, and I'm very sure they are focused on that game. The opponent is definitely going to be challenging with great players. While Bayern have a chance of eliminating them, they must stay focused; this game won't be easy, but they'll give it everything they've got. They only need luck and concentration to win the final after overcoming a difficult group. Bayern have also a chance to lose against psg.

Undoubtedly, Ronaldo has just a few differences currently in all that he wins against Messi, and I believe with mess's two more years ahead he's probably going to equal or exceed those records.
Speaking about goal records, I think with the aid of a goal-per-match analysis, I would say Messi has more goals because Ronaldo score  804 goals in 1106 matches but Messi has scored 759 in 957 matches, meaning that Ronaldo has played more than 140 matches more than Messi, yet just 45 goals different from Messi. They are both good, but for now there's little upper hand on mess's side.

Even PSG could reach until final, they only play for 6 matches in total and it's impossible if Messi want to get 12 goals. It's possible if Messi play in Champions League for 2-3 times, because Messi position at Argentina and PSG are different. Messi is all rounder striker and he's mostly a play marker to support the real striker, so he will pass the ball to Mbappe. At Argentina, the whole teammates are ask Messi to take penalty, but in PSG Mbappe will take almost of the penalty.

The money spent by Paris Saint Germain to make them a star-studded team is fantastic, but when it comes to the Champions League, money is not a factor where they will easily get a trophy. So this is what they have to realize, the effort that costs a fantastic amount has not yet brought them a trophy, they have to do homework to achieve their dream achievement in the Champions League.
True, this is not a real benchmark even they are still inferior to the composition of players which are expensive players.
We must know that the Champions League is not only about how rich and how good the quality of the individual is. Even though this does affect them, seeing their condition there are actually other things such as cohesiveness or teamwork and of course their clear experience is still lagging behind.
Current conditions are still uncertain in the top 16. it would be great if they can win against Bayern but if they lose it will only be the same as they can't do much in the Champions League.
The truth is that everything they say is very true, for me it is very relevant that PSG can interpret it as: "We have the best players in the world" but they can't win the UCL, last season they didn't do anything, so this year? how will these guys be? Now they have a big task, which is to beat Bayern, and I think Bayern won't make it very easy for them, in fact they have the full risk of leaving the UCL, and if that happens, how would the Sheikh's team be? With what excuse can they confront him? If with all the money in the world and they still don't win an Orejona, this is something that can take any team by surprise.

And a reminder that we cannot forget:

Newcastle given transfer reminder as PSG enter race after seeing '£31m bid rejected'

Quote
Newcastle may have to move quickly to bring in long-term target Manu Kone with Paris Saint-Germain reportedly making an approach for the midfielder in the January window. Eddie Howe has repeatedly stated that the club won't be doing big business this month having spent around £200million in the last two windows.

In fact, Bayern Munich will not be an easy opponent for PSG. Because Bayern Munich have a great XI. Who have been performing well in the league this season. PSG will need to show great spirit and energy to beat Bayern Munich.
That's true, but I also wouldn't say PSG has bad things, because in terms of their abilities and experience in their respective leagues they are already very extraordinary and even have almost the same strength in the Champions League, even though one of them will lose later, but their match is a match that will be very exciting to watch because when there are two great teams appearing in a match, the atmosphere of the match becomes more intense and this is what I like.
PSG has no its main players got injured. Even mbappe and messi will be also playing against bayern. In addition if PSG has neymar too which will become another threat for bayern. i think that if it's gonna be the hottest match in the champion league.
We know that how strong bayern caused by bayern got perfect result during the group qualifier. Bayern might able to defeat PSG but the chance would be even smaller due to the some players like neuer and many who got injured.
That will become the most important match for the next leg of UCL. I guess that many people will be waiting for the match to come in the next month

Messi is a professional footballer, and forbthe love of the profession, professionals don't think that way. Mesi has laid hand on his greatest football dream, but that doesn't mean he has completely lost interest in achieving more, because I believe PSG didn't just sign him for his already made achievement, they did so because they needed him to help them achieve more. Messi is still much concerned about helping PSG grap the champion league as expected.
not only because of the arrival of Messi. PSG brought in some of the world's top players for one ambition. of course with the squad currently owned by PSG, they should have a high probability of competing for the Champions League trophy.
Messi could have made new history for him when he helped PSG win the UCL trophy. PSG has spent quite a lot of money on it. Because the domestic league competition is not so tight, PSG must prepare its strength.
The money spent by Paris Saint Germain to make them a star-studded team is fantastic, but when it comes to the Champions League, money is not a factor where they will easily get a trophy.
