Because maybe Real Madrid don't have the strongest squad on paper but they have been reigning in the Champions League for long years. They know how to deal with any kind of opponent here very well. The difference of 12 goals is not a big amount to chase, Messi is still active in the Champions League and has the opportunity to continue to add to his number of goals. While Ronaldo will automatically not appear in the UCL after defending Al Nassr, Ronaldo's 141 goals will stop as long as Ronaldo defends Al Nassr.

Messi has a great chance to surpass Ronaldo goal record in the UCL, at least for the next two years Messi will be able to pass him. Their rivalry will heat up if Messi is able to surpass Ronaldo record while placing Messi as the top scorer in the UCL, but Messi is unable to break Ronaldo's highest salary record.

Even PSG could reach until final, they only play for 6 matches in total and it's impossible if Messi want to get 12 goals. It's possible if Messi play in Champions League for 2-3 times, because Messi position at Argentina and PSG are different. Messi is all rounder striker and he's mostly a play marker to support the real striker, so he will pass the ball to Mbappe. At Argentina, the whole teammates are ask Messi to take penalty, but in PSG Mbappe will take almost of the penalty.
