I don't think that City will sack Guardiola for his poor performance this season even if he fails to win PSG and not qualify to the round of 16. You are not really wrong for a team that wants to win resting their players at some point is actually necessary so they still have them in their best form and abilities when needed so they are able to get to the point where they are going to be able to win the games they tag important because as it is with the champions League they have a very good level of certainty about moving to the next stage of the game so they will not really have so much to really bother about if they don't win these other games after having the confidence in the fact that they can still win .

I agree with you about that point. When we look at top 24 now we can easily see there are some teams that have a really low chance to progress in the old format. Now they might be able to do this thanks to the new one.

PSG is still a strong team that should not be underestimated. It's just quite natural that many people feel pessimistic about PSG this season in the UCL.
