RIP Chelsea and Zenit

source: https://twitter.com/ChampionsLeague/status/1167120206344458240

My picks (to advance to the KO stages):

A) PSG, Real Madrid
B) Bayern, Spurs
C) Man City, Atalanta
D) Juventus, Atletico
E) Liverpool, Napoli
F) Dortmund, Inter
G) Benfica, Lyon
H) Valencia, Ajax

it will not be difficult for Real Madrid to get full points in Group A. PSG which might give Real Madrid fierce resistance seems to be focused on the issue of the transfer of Neymar, (Real Madrid is my favorite club)  Grin

group F is very scary and Slavia Praha is locked in Group F, very sorry for them "lol"  Cheesy

The group stages are here and some have got a favourable draw, while others will have to battle it out. The only exciting group is the F group, where one of the giants will bite the dust. I don’t expect Chelsea to qualify for the next round, even though they have got a easy group.

My predictions:

A) Real Madrid and PSG
B) Bayern and Tottenham
C) Mancity and Dinamo Zagreb
D) Juventus and Atletico
E) Liverpool and Napoli
F) Barcelona and Inter
G) Benfica and Zenit
H) Ajax and Valencia

Obviously F group is the most interesting. Reaction of Slavia boss when he saw group that they got was priceless Cheesy.  While G and H groups looks very balanced and unpredictable. All of these teams can reach next round. My predictions for teams who will advance further:
A. Real, PSG
B. Bayern, Spurs
C. Man City, Shakhtar
D. Juventus, Atletico
E. Napoli, Liverpool
F. Barcelona, Borussia
G. Lyon, Zenit
H. Chelsea, Valencia

So Diego Simeone  is Meeting Cristino Ronaldo again  Grin

I think the most interesting groups are C and Group D. As for Group H. I think Chelsea won't find it had to go through into the Last 16. I am quite sure Ajax will be able to replicate last season's fairy tale.

It's impossible to make all groups similar level. I think that current group format is good. Adding rankings and other stuff would make draw complicated, due to tgings like country restrictions.

Yeah, the problems are the restrictions.

They can do a better job with mixing the level like on tennis table if they look at the ranking and not like they are doing right now.

They should change the rules for the drafts...

Group G is so unbalanced compared to Groups D and F.

They need to add something with ranking, not with the previous season results, IMHO.

Congratulations to Virgil van Dijk, the premier league side achieve so much success last season that it won't had been fair, if we missed out on this honor. Congratulations to Liverpool fans too, next stop Ballon d'Or for Dijk, he deserve it. I do think neither Messi or Ronaldo will even lift that award again until they retire (we're tired of them). I'll prefer they stay tied as it'll be best that way.

As for the UCL draw, I believe Chelsea can progress out of the group stage, I'm not just saying this because I'm a fan but been the underdog like Ajax was last season, we might surprise the masses.

Yap, Ajax for example. It is a big difference between this and the previous season. Even if we can't be sure until games start.
Still, if you want to be champion of CL, you must be strong enough and win any team which comes across as an obstacle.

Group C is very interesting.
Manchester City is the obvious favorite but I think it will be a big fight for second and third place between Shakhtar, Atalanta and Dinamo.
Shakhtar have more experience, Atalanta is first time here and wants great result and Dinamo showed in the last season (specially in the match against Benfica) that they can play equally against the strongest clubs in Europe.
It will be very interesting group and a great fight to the end.
What do you think?

Lots of exciting pairings from the UCL draw, and there'd be lots of interesting odds to pick from once the full fixtures are announced. My luck for group(s) of death would be groups; G and F, that are maybe the most balanced groups and very difficult to pick who goes through.

Obviously, Chelsea has a difficult group but I don't think that Ajax at least is so strong to kick them out of the next face.
Maybe they are going to face difficulties with Valencia because Chelsea has a bad history with Spanish teams but I think they are going to qualify to the next stage.

You think 2 out of Ajax, Valencia and LOSC will advance before Chelsea?

And Barcelona not to overcome Dortmund and Inter?
yes and yes.

As a BVB-supporter I hope for the following:

Chelsea
BVB
Olympiacos
Galatasaray

Cheesy

^  Zenit has to be a bit weaker than Chelsea even with the lack of player acquisitions this summer (well they had Pulisic and Kovacic.  Lol).  I think...

Edit:  And guys, join the CL pool:  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5154317.0

It's fun!

Sure Zenit is the easier task, but I wanted Chelsea anyway.

BVB got Barcelona now, that´s nightmare´ish - can we Blockchain-vote for a reset/re-start??!  Grin

Today I'm going with Apoel to qualify.
Well that sucks...current record: 10W | 15L

Ajax 2:0 Apoel. After bad performance last week, now we saw totally one sided game.
Yeah, i was pretty shocked watching Apoel today after their outstanding performance last week, they looked like a team who had 3-0 advantage in the aggregate score  Lips sealed

Well, now we wait for the group stage draw next Thursday. As a Real Madrid fan, i hope we get an easy group and not something like Man City, Inter, Leipzig. Hopefully Ajax will get something like Liverpool, Valencia, Atalanta LOL

I lost my bet as well.
APOEL was very good at their performance last week and I thought that they would be able to disqualify Ajax.
However, it is fair for Ajax to be qualified as they reached the semi-finals last season and it would be a pity for them not to qualify.

This is the discussion thread for the Champions League. Europa League thread can be found here:https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/uefa-europa-league-discussion-thread-5161551.

Greeting European League punters! With the old UEFA threads closed/locked, I'm creating 2 separate threads to discuss the two seasonal UEFA club competitions. Please keep the discussions to the correct thread!

After some Prelims last month, today kicks off the Qualification rounds and we can recognise a few names already. My upset picks for the 1st leg? Ararat (Armenia) and Cluj (Romania) vs fancier opponents from Sweden and Kazakhstan.

Here are the tables for reference (Source: Wiki and UEFA).

With the opening of the European Champions League, this has been eagerly awaited by all football fans in the world, because many big clubs and favorites will participate in it, currently the champions league draw is underway. I am waiting for a hell group to occur this year so that the match will be exciting.

Champions League group stage draw pots

We could get some very strong groups, it will be interesting. Especially  if Dinamo Zagreb and Red Star Belgrade end up in the same group, those 2 clubs have  very interesting history, to say the least, and those would be high risk games.

Draw will be made today at 18:00 CET.
Interesting, besides the two historic teams, there are other things that are more interesting to me, because there will be 2 big teams that will be in one group. Look at Real Madrid and Athletico in pot 2, they will definitely meet the another big teams also in the same group. I can't wait for that, if Liverpool can meet again to Real Madrid, it will be revenge mission for Liverpool.
I really am hoping that Chelsea and Real Madrid are eventually put in the same group so that Chelsea can witness firsthand the attacking prowess of their former player Eden Hazard.
