Heartbreak for any player that decided to leave Liverpool in search of Champions League glory. We had Coutinho joining Barca, and Messi magic ended up breaking their hearts even more on 2 successive campaigns after being 3-0 up on aggregate. Then we had Can, who even with Ronaldo magic couldn't even reach the final.

On the other hand, players who fought for their place like Sturridge and even Origi, wow, what a reward.
I do not think football should be judged in that way, players make moves that they eventually go on to probably regret, but that's that for football.
If coutinho had performed at his best in Barcelona, he would not have be sold/loaned in the transfer window and he would have definitely won the champions league with Barcelona someday soon. As for Emery can I do not think Liverpool were actually interested in keeping him. So the success of the team a player leaves shouldn't actually bother such player or make him feel bad, as he could still get more success in his current team.

Players like sturridge and Origi played peripheral roles in Liverpool winning the title, I doubt if history would remember them so much for it.

Obviously F group is the most interesting. Reaction of Slavia boss when he saw group that they got was priceless Cheesy.  While G and H groups looks very balanced and unpredictable. All of these teams can reach next round. My predictions for teams who will advance further:
A. Real, PSG
B. Bayern, Spurs
C. Man City, Shakhtar
D. Juventus, Atletico
E. Napoli, Liverpool
F. Barcelona, Borussia
G. Lyon, Zenit
H. Chelsea, Valencia

I think Inter milan will make it out of the group ahead of Dortmund. I think I'm somewhat biased towards Inter this season, I'll probably avoid betting on them often.

It's a bit weird that you expect Chelsea not to make it through, It's going be Chelsea, Valencia advancing, IMO.

Group G is the toughest and most unpredictable, But I'm pretty sure Leipzig would make it through.

@LFC I really want to meet Real though in the Last 16, still need revenge, for some reason! Over it of course, but want to close the books proper on that one;)

Yeah we owe Real & Ramos especially for the loss in Kiev, that trip hurt me in the pocket & the heart. I still haven’t got over it Sad

To be a bit more light hearted, look at Ramos & VVD arriving at the UEFA awards last night -

‘You vs the guy she tells you not to worry about’

Ramos turns up looking like Ellen DeGeneras on a night out.
VVD turns up looking like the next fucking Bond.

Yeah, Ramos is all quiet and shut up now and looks more and more like Ellen exactly hahaha. Even looked embarassed to score the penalty last night against Romania.

It would be so beautiful to meet Zidane's team twice and just knock them over for a bit, maybe even a bit further in the campaign so they're also distracted from their league. No idea what to call it other than good old football catharsis.

@joninoini Sterling's definitely successful but he was rising through the ranks anyway with Liverpool. I followed him all through his senior debut so I was really a little miffed at the WAY he forced a departure. And he hasn't got the medal most coveted has he?

That's just how life is. Doesn't mean it will always be like that though. Sterling is quite successful with Man City. Winning more than his previous teammates.

But that's the differences between playing for a team and playing for glory. I still respect one man one club players more than those who joined several clubs before their prime is over.

Bold move from Sarri to leave Can out of the champions league squad. This could mean he is not in his future plans for the club, and is only there to strengthen the squad in case of injuries.
Emre Can hinted at needing to play champion's league football, this could lead to an exit when next the transfer window opens.
Firstly, is anger is not the solution to this situation and it also too early to decide he's not in his future plan for the club because him been omitted for the team first squad is a test for him to prove his worth cause his respond on the field of play to false promises made by the club is what will determine the club next decision about him.

Emre Can has every right to be disappointed by Juventus decisions, as he came to the club to play in Champions League but now he will have to settle for a place on the bench for Italian league games. Sarri has made an interesting choice by leaving him out, and it’s possible that Can didn’t fit in his philosophy of Sarri ball. Though he can always feature later in the Champions League, as teams are allowed to add new players to the squad all he needs to do is work hard and impress Sarri.
I know he has every right to feel disappointed when the board don't keep their words but what I'm trying to point out is that he shouldn't have take it personal to the extent of saying it out loud on social media because what he ought to be doing something which would make the board feel guilty by playing some fantastic football.

Emre Can was disappointed not to be included by Juventus in the 2019/2020 Champions League squad. Can accused Juventus of breaking its promise.

Juventus released their squad for the 2019/2020 Champions League. Of the 22 players registered, there is no Can name.
"I was very surprised. Our conversation was only a minute and I was not given a reason. That made me angry and disappointed," Can told Bild as reported by Italian Football.

I'm surprised that Mandzukic was not registered for CL. He is a good and experienced striker and always can help. He did not leave Juventus, because of no interest from Champions League clubs. now he will not play CL, ironic. But everything is very easy to change, one red card and one injury in any line made a serious deficit.

A tough choice for coaches and related parties. They have many choices behind lina, midfield and even front lines. Automatic with many choices, there will definitely be players who do not participate in the champions league squad including Emre Can.

I can’t wait for Bayern vs Oly and I will definitely watch the match live in the Allianz Arena! 😁
the president of Bayern Munich (Uli Hoeness) officially resigned from his club but I'm sure it will not interfere with Lewandowski's game and friends. Bayern will definitely easily win at Allianz when they meet Olympiacos.. I think the match will be very exciting.  Smiley

I guess you have to decide if it will either be an easy win or very exciting, or did I miss the point?  Grin'

Definitely a different game away from home for Bayern, the high-society-athmosphere is definitely somewhat different from what they will face in Piräus Wink

How good are Valencia and Lille?  Ajax pretty much owns Group H but what does it mean for Chelsea?

Edit:  Lampard should hire RDM as his special assistant for the CL.  Lol.

I don´t follow Ligue 1 but from what I´ve noticed is that Lille cashed in for their best players (such as Pepe), but not sure how good they can replace those losses. Wouldn´t bet much on the though

That's absolutely clear that Sarri doesn't consider him on the first line plans.
Actually I believe he is right. The team has a lot of players at that position. And apart from that, I don't consider Can a player of high class. Seems fair to me.

Ajax sold a lot of their best players so I don’t know how good they’ll be this season. Chelsea sold Hazard too so I don’t know how good they’ll be too.

Ajax pretty much does what they usually did. Raise young players, make them world-class, and sell it. I won't be surprised if they don't perform like their previous season. It might take at least one or two seasons before they can outperform Madrid and Juve again.

Chelsea looks like they're in bad shape, pretty much like MU. But who knows, players emotion can influence their game. So if Lampard manages to motivate them, maybe they can make a surprise.

No idea about Lille but Valencia had a good season in La Liga which is a tough league.

Napoli are a good team but we should crush Genk & Salzburg in our games against them.
??

(source)

Genk and Salzburg are definitely stronger teams than Red Star so...  Cheesy
Without a doubt this was one of the matches that surprised me in last year's competition and it was the game that almost made Liverpool crash out of the competition because they underrated them. In this competition,  you underrate teams on your own peril.

Not an interesting match at all.
Bayern is going to score a lot of goals and probably they are not going to play with their best line-up.
Bayern - Tottenham is more interesting to watch.

Liverpool wins in the first leg. Napoli draws against them on their away leg. Well, not that it matters anymore. New season, new game.

It is also good for Liverpool to have easy games in the Group stage in order to maintain their focus on Premier League.

Klopp will probably rotate his players. Keita, Origi, Ox, and so on need more game time.
