What are your picks for tonight's games? I'm thinking Olympiacos to win and Red Star + Zagreb to qualify.

Last week, i went for Young Boys to win, game ended with a draw and they didn't impress me that much, so i'm backing Red Star today, they managed to scored 2 goals away which is obviously a massive advantage, and they're playing at home. This is the game i'll be watching tonight.

Since Olympiacos have 4:0 from the first game, i doubt that they will push hard, so i would put money on Krasnodar, or maybe  even better over 2.5, as Krasnodar has to go all in.

Young Boys are better team, and Red Star was lucky to end first game with 2:2.When Red Star is playing home they are favorites over stronger teams than Young Boys is, so i would say they have advantage, and my money would be on them. And yeah, it should be most interesting game to watch tonight.

Regarding Dinamo Zagreb, they are class above Rosenborg, so unless something weird happens, they should go through to CL.

I think that Olympiacos is not going to win.
They are great in the attacking part but I think that they are going to play fully defensively in order not to let Krasnodar scoring a lot of goals. It is defined that Krasnodar is going to score.

Olympiakos are effectively through having won 4-0 in the 1st leg. I think Dinamo Zagreb will qualify but the other one could go either way. Maybe Red Star will have the edge after getting the 2 away goals in the 1st leg. Young Boys are capable of a smash & grab win though.

Krasnodar may win the 2nd leg but Oly will advance, such a miracle will not happen for the Russians. Wink

Football is a game of chance. Saying a team will not advance before a match ended is a bit disrespectful imo. Even if they only have 1%, there's a possibility. Sure there's 99% probability that they will not advance, but they still have to play the game and who knows what will happen in the game. There are countless times a team can win a match that was deemed impossible by most people.

Yes, Oly has been a regular Champions League participant and used to beat many of the BIG European teams, especially at home - I am personally not an Olympiakos fan but all in all, I hope they will find back to their old strength. Krasnodar may win the 2nd leg but Oly will advance, such a miracle will not happen for the Russians. Wink

From yesterday's matches, I didn't expect Olympiacos winning Krasnodar with such a big difference in goals.
I don't think that Krasnodar will be able to score 4 goals or more and qualify to the Champions League group stage.

Oly is a powerhouse at karaiskakis and used to be even more so a few years ago. Right now it seems as if they are successfully starting to rebuild their team and become a player again. Some years ago we would not have been surprised by a clear home victory vs teams such as krasnodar, nowadays we are indeed...

I remember this team being in the Champions League Group stage for many years and I am happy to see them returning.
In the beginning of these series I thought that Krasnodar will show resistance but they didn't. Maybe they will perform better in their home game.

I’ll be very interested in this thread but the qualifiers are kind of low quality with some really average teams. Once we get to the group stages the real fireworks begin.

The draw for the group stage is August 29th in Monaco - https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.espn.co.uk/football/uefa-champions-league/story/3863868/champions-league-draw-2019-when-and-what-time-is-the-group-stage-draw%3fplatform=amp

Interested or not but finals in qualifying round offer sometimes better matches then in group stages. Next friday we will see how will groups in both competition look like. And then we will see how things will progress. Who will win EL and CL.

To what I did saw them play was not as I thought them to play but nevertheless, they will definitely qualify for the champions league as they are known for surprise. That's my team and I personally believe in them and not what I saw them play with Olympiacos. Never look at the goals but watch out for the next match for surprise.

The funny thing yesterday is that from what I have seen in the sportbooks around everybody was favouring Young Boys as the odd was reduced to 1.7 from 2.1 initially.People were betting on Young Boys thinking that last year they beat Juventus and draw with Valencia at this stadium and the players are the same of last year.Red Star has now a golden opportunity to enter the group stages.
I was actually a bit skeptical about that game and looking at their head 2 head statistics, though it was a while ago they managed to play a 2-2 draw against Young Boys and ironically, they managed to achieve the same feat yet again last night. In my opinion, they have already qualified for the group stages now.

We could get some interesting groups like Liverpool-Real-Inter-Galatasaray.

To be honest any team with Liverpool and RM in group could be death one. Many combinations and calculation on this but this time I could expect to see maybe more. It could be MNC RM Inter and some other fourth club. Many combinations for so called death group. We will have to wait for 29th this month to see groups in both CL and EL.

And isn't it what are we waiting for? Two superteams, two teams that think of the comeback from the dead. Group stages have to be more interesting because that's what the Champions League was made for. To be interesting. Do you remember last year's drama in groups with Liverpool, PSG and Napoli or with Barcelona, Tottenham and Inter? Groups of deaths are very important in Champions League's early stages. Although this product sells by itself, big emotions are needed.

I agree that Red Star has good chance at home, they are very good there, last season they beat Liverpool 2:0 there.

Current situation regarding CL pots

Pot 1:

Liverpool
Chelsea
Barcelona
Manchester City
Juventus
Bayern
PSG
Zenit

Pot 2:

Real Madrid
Atletico
Borussia D.
Napoli
Shakthar
Tottenham
Ajax/Apoel
Benfica

Pot 3:

Lyon
Leverkusen
Salzburg
Olympiacos
Club Brugge
Valencia
Inter
Dinamo

Pot 4:

Lokomotiv M.
Young Boys /Red Star
Genk
Galatasaray
Leipzig
Slavia /Cluj
Atalanta
Lille

I think that we can assume Olympiacos will go through, and most likely Dinamo Zagreb.

Apoel can shift things here if they beat Ajax, as that would put Lyon to pot 2 and Lokomotiv to pot 3.

We could get some interesting groups like Liverpool-Real-Inter-Galatasaray.

Olympiakos - Krasnodar result is a big surprise for me. It's not surprise that Olympiakos won, but I didn't expected 4:0 result. I expected more from Krasnodar, especially after they kicked out Porto last week.
As expected, Dinamo Zagreb achieved quite easy win. But they still can't be confident about reaching group stage before second leg.

That's what happens when you sell off the major pillars of the team. This is Monaco 2.0 happening allover again. i don't expect them to go so far up in the Champion league even if they qualify.
Well, it happens every few years with Ajax - they sell their talented players to rich big clubs. It's reality of Ajax and similar clubs. And then they have to rebuild team with academy players, and it's normal that it takes some time to start play well. In recent years Ajax didn't had amazing results in UEFA cups and Eredivisie, but this generation was exceptional talented.

You can't really blame this teams for not hanging onto their players, when teams of lower status have a good season, it showcases the amount of good players they have in their team, and this attracts the big boys to come for them, with the players eager to leave, the team has no choice but to cash in on them and make good money for themselves.

This leaves such teams depleted for the coming season, if they do not make wise signings, but I think this teams have to find a way to hold onto their players, and see if the form shown, can be replicated.
