I doubt if England was playing to win the Euro 2020 tournament because their performance all through the game wasn't encouraging at all. Kudos to Italy although their equalizing goal was well deserving

This is silly. England did score after 2 minutes, you know. Often - and almost always in major finals - if a team takes the lead against a strong opponent, they then sit back and defend, and try to catch the opponent on the break to score a second. This is simply sound tactics. The reason Italy dominated possession so much is because they needed to score, whereas England, having already scored, didn't. Once the score was 1-1, England started to attack again.

I think England's defense line wasn't coordinating well. There were quite some chances for Italy in second half and you know Pickford is always demanding from his defenders but there is one Harry Maguire who isn't very much quick to react. Anyway England did well to come this far but at last didn't made it but hell yeah feel so cool about Bonucci and Chiellini finally getting the Trophy.
Yeb you are right they wasnt coordinating good and they maked a few misstakes , after Italy scored the Goal i have known that they will win the Game.
I guess Bonucci and Chiellini was maybe there last tournament and its a great present for them that they won with it the Title.

They keep blaming Saka and the rest who missed the penalty kicks for making England lose the Euro 2020 trophy.
For sure they will be doing that , and i guess Gareth Southgate will be also getting his feedback even he formed a great Team in the last years.

This is what I do. I drink and I know things.
I was shocked to have seen Saka step up for the shootout. Naturally, I had predicted persons like Harry kane, Raheem Sterling, Marcus Rashford, L. Shaw and someonther person, an older player to be the once taking the shoots but to my amazement, a lot of young stars, over rated players where the once stepping up. Worst of all was, letting Saka take the final shoot. Such an important shoot for such a young player. I don't just get what was the plan or what was G. Southgate was thinking, gambling it perhaps and I guess his gamble didn't work. That's to say, they never meant business like Italy did and that's why, they had to win.

It was for me as well a surprise that Southgate chooses Saka for taking the last penalty. Too much pressure for the youngster and IMO, without any reason. There are other players that can take it, I couldn't agree more with you.
England has the upper hand in the first half but they failed to score another goal. The second half shows the mentality of Italy, a team with the metal and the spirit of a winner. Score the goal that they wanted, keep the pressure in the extra time and Donarumma makes two "easy" for his class saves and send the trophy to Rome.
Big congrats to Italy, they truly deserve it, and not to mention that they are still undefeated. Cool

P.S: Jorginho's penalty was a total disappointment... Sad

Some people don't actually understand that. They keep blaming Saka and the rest who missed the penalty kicks for making England lose the Euro 2020 trophy.
The match was a tough one between the two countries. When the first half ended with England leading, I Initially though the game was a winning for England. However, a big congratulations to Italy.
If we are going to blame anyone I think this is on the coach, he basically got on the game two young men at the last minute of the game to try to score in the shootout and they both failed, we must remember that during those moments not everything is about the skill of the players, it is also about whether or not they have the mental maturity to endure the fact that the fate of the entire competition is at their feet, that probably billions of dollars will change hands and that they will be remembered as heroes or villains depending on their success or failure , so I think they were given too much pressure and they could not handle it, something that their coach must have known.

After I saw what England fans were doing after final, I'm even more happy that Italy won final. Their fans is one of main reasons why England get so much hate. These retards attacked Italy fans after final:
https://twitter.com/melvinnasasira/status/1414364972566601731?
Many idiots started posting racial slurs on Instagram profiles of players who missed penalties. Disgraceful.

And don't show this video to CR7 - Bonucci after final in press conference drinks both Coca Cola and Heineken  Grin Grin

it's a pity that such bad scenes happened after the game. but english fans have always been so stupid.
i hope England don't win a final for the next 100 years. the best thing is to ban this team and this fans for a few years.

and thank you Gareth Southgate for selecting such great penalty takers  Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin very good idea

I felt the coach of England Gareth Southgate made a strange decision when they played against Italy yesterday, England have a great start when they managed to score an early goal against Italy, but I wonder why did England choose to play the match against Italy in defensive mode after scoring an early goal instead of balancing their attacks and defense for the rest of the match.

And since the focus of England are only on their defense, it allows the players of Italy to control the game tempo and keep on launching attacks in search of the equalizer goal and they finally get their reward when they scored the equalizer goal and thus the game would have to go into extra time and penalty shootout. I just wonder if England were to play more aggressively in attacking after scoring an early goal, and with Harry Kane leading the frontline, maybe the final outcome of the match would be different.

defense is never an option, you risk so much in defense mode
the better defense is be aggressive and spend a lot of energy
have good ball control (like spain) and dont have fear to play

england yestarday have fear of italy, do a goal and close himself in defense mode

I blame Southgate for that. You have guys like Rashford and Sancho on the bench. You can give them at least 2nd extra time to stretch the legs for sure. I was waiting for them to come on and rain hell on tired Italy defense but never happened. If nothing else I am sure they would have had more belief when taking penalties. There is nothing worse in football then taking penalty after not playing, at least for me, and my games did not have much of a stress factor.
If you are let out on the field for a penalty kick, this is also a certain belief in the player, but I still agree that without playing time on the field it will be demotivate.

As for the final, I was right, the Italian national team became the champion. and when it came to the penalty shoot-outs, I had no doubts who would be the winner in this final, because Donaruma, although very young, but is a very talented goalkeeper with excellent physical characteristics. Congratulations to Italy on the title !!!

Sad for Kane, and sad for the rest of the England boys (literally, actually,,, the ones who missed the penalties were almost all boys especially Saka) I just hope this loss for them does not affect them into the season. It was not their fault, we all know penalties are lottery tickets and anyone can win and lose just by doing something different.

Hats off to the Italians and Mancini vindication.

Would Italy have won against Denmark? I think it would have been more difficult against Denmark than against England. Denmark would certainly have shot more on goal than England did yesterday.  Wink

LOL... dude, are you high? Denmark was without a doubt the weakest team in the semi-finals. And I know that Italy would have been happy, if they had Denmark as the opponent instead of Spain. And you are conveniently forgetting one important aspect. The match took place in front of tens of thousands of British hooligans at the Wembley. That gave another advantage for the England team. England didn't managed to have too many shots on target, because the Italian defense was super-strong. Denmark would have performed even worse.

Yep, it was a mistake to give so much space to the Italians. I read somewhere that Kane didn't have a single touch on the ball in the Italy's box and that he failed to have a shot on goal only the 2nd time in his international career.

It was not just Kane though, all England's attacking players had a really bad game yesterday. Sometimes it's hard to get back into the offensive groove if you defend too long, and England did that after an early goal. When they conceded, they simply could not jump into an offensive rhythm again.

Harry Kane had to drop dip into their midfield yesterday and setup Sterling to launch counter attacks Sterling switched between two sides to create space I believed that was their game plan thus depriving Kane the opportunity to play as a standing nine that will limit his short on target, however the Italian defence were up the task while their midfielders also took most if the ball possessions while England defended in almost the entire duration of the match trying every possible means to defend their early goal unfortunately their game plan backfired.
That plan from Southgate only works in the first 10 to 15 minutes of the first half. After that, Italy control the match but they can not attack well till the last 10 minutes of that first half.

The second half is different when Italy dominates it since beginning and they even can score a decisive goal after the equalizer from Bonucci.

Yup, that was the plan before Italy scored. After the goal for 1-1 England went with 433 instead 343 (Trippier out for Saka) and I expected Kane to be that focal point again. England had 25 minutes in regular time and 30 in extra time to threaten again, which they failed to do.

Seeing the players that came off the bench, I can't help myself but to blame England that they did not push more for the win in regular time. The individual quality of the players in ET was by far on the english side but that was not really seen on the pitch.
It is what Kane played in Spurs in the last season and he does it too well in Spurs as well as in the final match. Just his team mates and Southgate don't have enough bravery to play more offensive against Italy.

In the extra time, England should use their younger players to beat Italy but Southgate again only try to wait from player moments. He does not want to change from substitutions. Grealish, Sancho or even Rashford can do better if Southgate gives them more time to show.

England has a very good early goal and they can use it to beat Italy by creating pressure and score a second goal. They chose to do differently, turn to be very seriously defensive. I feel they did not want to attack after having one goal. Maybe they worried that if they attack or counter attack, Italy can score and equalize the result.

England, in the other words, don't deserve to be called as champions because they sacrifice their home stadium advantage very easily. Italy have the DNA of Champions and they equalized the match. After the equalizer, Italy even had some opportunities to beat England in 90 minutes then 120 minutes.

So Thats The Problem Of England, As I Stated Before, They Choose To Be Defensive After an Early Goal. They Can Make second and third goal If They Keep Their Attack Scheme.

I also think that England has made the wrong decision. They thought if they do full defense then they would be able to win the final match. But this decision made Italy, even more, dominating the game. If England continues to play as usual (like against Denmark), then Italy would not be that easy to win the ball possession. So that England's chances of winning (without the extra time and penalty shootouts) will be even better.

I agree with this opinion, even if you as a team score in the 2nd minute, you should not play from this goal to keep the result and try to get around the 90 minutes.

Through this aspect, Italy is for me also the deserved European champion. But England will have another chance to win a title next year.

I have expressed my prediction already, biased of course being an Italian, but I believe Italy is far superior compared to England and hopefully it will demonstrate it on the pitch.
Final result of the game is going to be either 2-1 or 3-1 for Italy. I put the money on the line for this epic game.
I lost some money but I do not really care. Yesterday night was truly an epic one for Italy and Italians. We showed the world what we can do when we respect what we truly are. We stood still against everything else: there was a sudden goal, a whole stadium for England but we made it.
One of the most beautiful games I witnessed in my life from the Azzurri, maybe only Italy Germany 2006 gave me similar feelings.
Awesome job Mancio.
