I don't understand why people are surprised to see Georgia beat Portugal, like I said before, when a team already secured the position, they will lose the motivation to win.

See England and France, they can't beat their opponents even they have good quality. Portugal is same, they just want to play without pressure and don't mind if they lose.
Portugal only made this match to play some of their second tier players who rarely get the chance to play. So the result of the match was not that important because after all Portugal had already secured a seat in the round of 16. And well no one should be surprised by Portugal's defeat by Georgia. Because after seeing Portugal's starting eleven in that match, we can clearly see that Portugal no longer has the motivation to play optimally in that match. And yes, most of Portugal's main players were rested in that match except for Cristiano Ronaldo, who was still given playing time until the middle of the second half.

Where everything ended in a draw which was unlucky for Ukraine because this result failed to qualify for the next phase. At that time, Ukraine definitely hoped that someone would lose and win in the Romania vs Slovakia match. But unfortunately they also ended the match with a draw.
Because they have Mudryk in their team, having Mudryk is like playing with 10 players, that's why Ukraine can't beat other teams that plays with 11 players.
You already said it so I don't need to say anything about this. Grin

Winning a European favorite with such a goal margin is surprising. It is assumed that even the reserve team of Portugal can beat Georgia who are not favorites. The win will also affect their position in the world football rankings. Anyway, your points are valid because most players will not give their best to avoid injuries. Since they have already topped the group and are sure they will be number one, they have to play cautiously.

It would be unfair to blame just one player for the know out of Ukraine. Mykhailo Mudryk might not be at his best but he contributed positively to the club to some extent. The Ukrainian team did all they could to qualify but they were unlucky not to, even when every team had four points. Their qualification would have brought some level of succor to fans of the warring nation. I was even supporting them, but sadly they are out of the competition. Nevertheless, they fought like warriors.

I didn't pay much attention to Group E. And yes, it turns out you are right that the points earned in Group E are quite unique. Because all teams have got the same points, namely 3 points. And talking about Group E we will look at the Belgium vs Ukraine match today and also the Slovakia vs Romania match. And actually Belgium is my favorite for today. Their captain, De Bruyne, must be able to win today. And I'm also looking forward to Lukaku's performance, which is actually not that good at this Euro. And I hope he shows his abilities again, which can actually be even better. But I wouldn't dare to bet big because I also doubt them a little. but I imagine it would be something unique if in today's match all the teams in Group E got 1 point because of a draw.  Grin
It's natural if you don't pay too much attention to Group E because Group E is not filled with strong enough teams. So most of us don't pay much attention to this group except to place bets. Only Belgium was initially the favorite in this group but in fact the quality of Belgium was below everyone's expectations. Even relatively ordinary. But Belgium still has a chance to qualify for the round of 16. As long as they can win today or even if they only get a draw. Because in terms of the number of goals scored and conceded, Belgium is superior to Ukraine.

Well, it would indeed be more interesting if it turned out that all of today's matches ended in a draw. But I think the possibility is quite small. Because in this group the percentage of wins and losses is much higher. because there has been no draw so far.
I'm laughing quite contentedly now. because it turns out that what I imagined about the result of the match in Group E which would get a draw turned out to be a reality. And yeah, this is very unique and quite interesting. And congratulations also to those who bet on a draw.  Grin
I also didn't expect this to actually happen in the results of the Ukraine vs Belgium and Slovakia vs Romania matches. Where everything ended in a draw which was unlucky for Ukraine because this result failed to qualify for the next phase. At that time, Ukraine definitely hoped that someone would lose and win in the Romania vs Slovakia match. But unfortunately they also ended the match with a draw.

I like to treat everyone as a friend 🔹

The knockout matches has been determined and the toughest game would be between France and Belgium where I believe France would advance.
Spain, Germany, Portugal, Netherlands, Turkiye, England and Italy would be the favorites in their respective competition but nothing can be said sure specially during knockouts.

Well said mate, nothing can be too sure  or certain especially with what I have been seeing from the recent results of this tournament. Well like you said the toughest game would have been France against Belgium but so far this two teams have been nothing else but an utter disappointment in terms of their performance and I wouldn't be surprised if they were winner at the end of 90 and even extra time and penalty shoot was the decider.

Belgium might give a tough fight against France in this tournament, but I think they won't be able to win against France. Although the game between Belgium and France will be much more interesting and both teams will try hard enough to win. However, if the French team is strong in attack in advance, then of course Belgium will lose. And if France and Belgium can't finish in 90 minutes and collect a good result, then it will definitely go to penalties. And the France team will definitely win because the players of the Belgium team are not likely to get disappointed, that's why I want to see the favorite team to win.

Even for the England vs Slovakia match, I think it is also a match that will be quite easy to predict. Because I'm sure that if the opponent was Slovakia then England would still be able to win and advance further.

England will indeed be the favorites, but looking at their performance, they don't appear to dominate. Their current advantage is the players in the England squad who hopefully will perform well in the match against Slovakia.

don't expect any surprises from Slovakia, but it's possible that England won't win easily. Even though they can win and qualify for the next round, I will not favorite England to win the Euros this year. their performance is still unsatisfactory.

In the round of 16, I am only confident that Spain, Germany and Portugal can be expected to be able to qualify for the quarter-finals without any significant obstacles. But for other teams such as England, Italy, Turkey and France, although they can be favorites, I'm still not sure for them. especially England. France might also be favorites in the match against Belgium. but yeah, once again, this is a match that is also difficult to predict. Maybe the Netherlands will also qualify for the quarter-finals. Because I don't see anything special about Romania when compared to the Netherlands.
All the teams that managed to get through from the group stage to the round of 16 are certainly teams that have their own advantages. And about Spain and Germany I think everyone will also agree about their favorites. And we can actually also favorite several other teams. Portugal is one of them. And I think the France vs Belgium match will actually be quite easy to predict. Because we can see how Belgium's performance was not very good in the group stage. And I think France played better in the group stage. So I won't have any difficulty choosing which team I will favourite. Even for the England vs Slovakia match, I think it is also a match that will be quite easy to predict. Because I'm sure that if the opponent was Slovakia then England would still be able to win and advance further. It's just that if England had a stronger opponent such as Spain or Germany then of course England would not be favourites. But because the opponent is Slovakia, I think England is still worthy of being the favorite.

Belgium and France did not play with their best possible performances in group stage but in a direct match, their star players can help their teams to win. With effect from star players, my belief goes to France with more star players and they have younger squad than Belgium too. France need to find other ways to score goals and avoid their dependence on Mbappe. If they can use Mbappe as a boycott for their attacking system, other players can have more space and opportunities to score goals and beat Belgium.

Turkiye will have big problems with cards and suspension for the next match but they look to be a most possible underdog in Euro 2024. Netherlands have chance to go far like semi final in this Euro because their opponents in round of 16, then quarter final are not stronger than Netherlands.

The biggest mystery will come from England, they are the runner up and did not show off their strength in first three matches. How will they perform in knock out stage and will Kane have a first title in his career?

What a poor performance from Portugal today, although Portugal has already been qualified, but to be honest, I’m not happy with their performance today, Portugal changed all their starting players and played the players who don’t have experience in the league, the only player that plays in the game is Ronaldo and he also is having a bad game, those young players of Portugal can not help the team and we have seen their performance today, now that we all will believe that Portugal old players are still important for Portugal, a player like Pepe, Bruno, and silva are very important to be in the match.

I think the reason why the coach decided to change all the players that used to play for the team is that they have already qualified for another stage of the tournament, and with this poor performance, the coach will know what he is going to do because bringing those young players to play in the round of 16 will let Portugal to be eliminated from the tournament and that won’t sound good if Portugal was been eliminated from the tournament in the round of 16.

Mate, sometimes we have to understand what their plan is for the next step and Portugal actually lost this match because they played young or new players but it's not a bad move, I know the coach has planned something like saving his main players for more important matches so there is no reason to play them in this match because they have already qualified for the next round, If the coach forces them to play there is a risk of injury or fatigue so we have to understand this situation.

Indeed, this defeat will have a slight impact on the players' mentality in the next match but I don't think it's a big problem and I'm sure they can handle it. In the next match Portugal will face Slovenia well, in that match, Portugal will get their players' mentality back if they win the match this means that Portugal is predicted to qualify for the quarter finals.

I agree that Turkey found it difficult to win a ten man Czech and despite that they had more possession of the ball, they found it hard to manipulate the game in their favor. Will I say it's the luck of having the upper hand that got them to win this game or Czech too had their fair share of mistakes? Either way, the game drew on for too long which was expected because both sides needed the win to have an opening to qualify them for the next round but it looked like Czech were more desperate that was why they conceded the fouls that led to Barak getting a red card.

I like that they didn't let themselves get affected by that card and still strove to equalize through a Tomas Soucek goal after Calhanoglu scored for the Turkish side in the 51st minutes.
Three teams were able to go to the next round and what a surprise, Georgia who make their debut in the Euros surpassed the expectations of many to qualify as well.

I disagree with your first part because the foul Barak commited that led to the red card was on the midfield line. It had nothing to do with desperation. He was fully focused on the ball with his eyes and didn't have bad intent, but his ill-considered timing made him step onto the foot of the Turkish player and hence the second yellow card was justified.

The way the Czechs played was amazing. They have had all the passion it needed to win this game. With 11 players on the pitch I tend to believe that they would have won this game. In fact it doesn't put Turkey into the best light that they could not capitalize on being one player more for almost 75 minutes. Czech was much closer to taking the lead than Turkey was. I have barely seen a team fighting as hard and running as much as the Czech team did in this game and I think they would have deserved it.

The goal scorer Tosun played one of his worst games ever. But in this moment he was there and scored the final goal, which helps him to camouflage his overall bad performance. Once you score, nobody talks about the rest.

For the most part you are right though. I just didn't like the term desperation here. Czech played with passion, dedication and proud. It must be so hard to be one man down after 20 minutes when you have a big chance to make a dream come true. For many players often times the last chance to reach a final round at such a big tournament.

Did Turkey deserve it? I don't think so. But I am also sure that Austria knows the Turks have plenty of weaknesses. Austria is the favorite in that game.

There is some interesting plot to be expected though. If the Netherlands win their game against Romania and Austria wins their game against Turkey, the Netherlands will get their revenge game against Austria Wink That would be fun to watch!

Nice job! It was really good to put an end by a win against Czechia.  Smiley  However did we play decently? I don't think so. Even against a team down by one player, we had big problems on getting an advantageous score.

Austria are indeed way better than us. I watched their Netherlands game and I was really impressed. They have no mercy against teams with problems in their defense. We are quite vulnerable in this area so this makes me nervous.  Sad  Our main target was to qualify for last 16. But I hope we can do more than this. Next time, please be more careful with your choices Montella... This squad can be used more effectively in 4-2-3-1 formation again.

It's very surprising to see the result match between Portugal vs Georgia because Portugal have lost with the final scores 2-0 and i assume plenty of bettors has been lost their bets from this match because i think most of then will placing their bets for Portugal because they thought Georgia will became an easy opponent for Portugal but surprisingly Georgia can reverse many people's predictions and won this match and this also makes Georgia for the first time in their history can advances to the round of 16 and they will fight against Spain

I think Turkey also has did a good job because they can dramatically win from Czech this result makes them can finish at runner up place on group D under Portugal and for round of 16 Turkey will fight against champion of Group D Austria and if we see based on squad quality i think both teams is equally strong and so far this is their first met in the big tournament but this time the bookmakers placing Austria as the favourite

Well done to Georgia for making a huge surprise and advancing to the knock-out stage for the first time in history.
We all like it when the underdog defeats a much higher-rated team.
Portugal dominated in possession and shots on goals, but were unsuccesful in the only metric that really counts.

I don't think the penalty was deserved. There was a contact but it clearly didn't cause the fall. Now, that we have VAR system, diving should be penalised with yellow cards and any players that do that should be shamed.
Normalising players throwing themselves to the ground and crying out in pain just to extort a penalty or a free kick was a mistake. It makes football look gay and laughable.

Many surplices are ongoing right now.

The biggest one is the current defeat of Portugal against Georgia.

With the current results we have

Portugual 6
Turkey 4
Georgia 4

Turkey at the momemtn is qualified as second team.

This particular loss by Portugal was a shocker to me because I never really expected them to lose despite the fact that they have already qualified for the next round atleast finishing the group with a clear stand would have been better than losing shamelessly to Georgia, well kudos to Georgia for a match well played and also finishing with 4 points, as this competition is concerned I believe there are no longer any small nations to under rate.
Maybe it's not surprising that Portugal lost because Roberto Martínez made many changes in this match, starting from the strategy and line-up of players. In this match the coach rotated the players, only Ronaldo was used, most of the others were on the bench. However, I really didn't expect Portugal to lose with a score of 2-0, in fact Portugal couldn't score at all even though Portugal played continuously attacking, they were also dominant but Georgia appeared very solid, clinical and efficient. they only had a few chances but they were able to score two goals.

With this victory, Georgia qualified for the round of 16, this is new history for Georgia. They managed to qualify for the Euro Cup for the first time, and were able to qualify for the round of 16. If you look at Georgia's performance at the Euros this time, they really deserve to qualify because they always put on an energetic performance, make the match interesting, and the most impressive thing is that they were able to beat Portugal to qualify for the round of 16.

On what criteria will Turkey lead Georgia if their both matches ended like this?

If they will use goal difference, I think Georgia should top them, because they have goal difference of zero while Turkey if they ended like this will have goal difference of -1.

But, if they will use head to head to judge it, Turkey will qualify ahead of Georgia.

Edit:
Turkey late goal secure them a spot ahead of Georgia.
Georgia performance tonight really surprised me. Georgia won Portugal that comfortably won both Turkey and Czechia. Football is really unpredictable sometimes, sincerely speaking I never saw this Georgia win coming. Despite Turkey late win that helped them secure second place, Georgia still made it to the round of 16 where they will face Spain on Sunday. They should celebrate their win and get ready for Sunday, if they can pull this kind of result on Sunday and win Spain, then people will start taking them serious. I don't know what went wrong in the Portuguese team tonight, maybe they considered the match as irrelevant, because I'm still struggling to understand why Portugal couldn't score a team like Georgia. I know Sunday will be a different story for Georgia because Spain won't give them that opportunity they enjoyed in their victory against Portugal.
Don't be so certain about Spain winning them, well in papers and for everyone it would be quite clear that Spain is supposed to win this game but for a certain level and degree football is a game that can suprise you even befor your wildest thoughts. I believe Spain was the only team to actually make a complete win by securing all nine points and if they continue like this then they would be one step in grasping the euro trophy.

A very funny game going down in group E. Imagine the four teams playing a draw each and the annoying part is Romania is topping the group despite all of them having four points each. I never expected less in the game between Romania and Slovakia as they are both stubborn sides but I least expected that they will be topping a group where you've got the likes of Belgium and Ukraine in it.
This tournament just shows that teams you think would be at the forefront are the ones that will be struggling and take Belgium's case for instance. Seriously, I wish Ukraine can just get a goal so they can have a hope of staying because if it ends like this, they get kicked out.

And yeah Romania is at the top of the standings because they scored 4 goals in 3 matches and Belgium only scored 2 goals, Ukraine is certain to be eliminated because they only scored 2 goals and conceded 4 goals or overall -2 goals of course it's very sad. The group stage only leaves 2 matches then we will see which teams will go to the next round, at least the 2 top teams have taken their place there while those in 3rd place will compete with other teams to compete for some tickets.

Of all the groups, Netherlands was the most surprising team because they were only able to finish in 3rd position even though at first we predicted they would qualify for the next round easily but yeah this is the fact they have to compete again.
This competition is really surprising. First, teams who are clear favorites to win the group stages end up in second or third place and the least teams take center stage. That's what happened to Romania in their group E. I don't know if I'm the only one noticing this, but there has been a kind of pattern in this tournament; small teams who prior to the last game have no points and no hopes of qualifying to the next round suddenly become strong and deadly in their last game and struggle to get points. We saw that in Hungary and even Georgia.

Seems your math worked out perfectly but then it was a close call as i also predicted. I was waiting till the final match of the group stage to reply to this post. I know you were not wrong but i just wanted to prove a point to you that anything can still happen and that you can’t just conclude that Netherlands have qualified already because they have 4 points. They have more advantage of advancing but look what happened today, Georgia pulled a stunt that surprised everyone today, they won Portugal with 2 goals to none and almost took the best loser spot. football is a very unpredictable sport at times and anything can happen.
Portugal lost - but they qualify for the round 16, that's all that matters.
Portugal's main line-up in the match against Georgia has basically proven that Portugal is not aiming for victory. Losing, winning or drawing no longer impact their chance of qualifying - so it's not big deal for them. It's just that - many gamblers fail to win their favorite team.

Ronaldo, who was expected to play full time, was pulled out and replaced by another player. There are far more important match in the round of 16 instead of wasting energy on this one - so letting Georgia win and qualify is just the smart choice. In the round of 16 - Portugal will meet Slovenia, where Portugal must win.
