I checked the ranking of third placed teams, and Croatia needs to be in top-4 out of a total of 6 teams. But at this point, they are at the 5th position, behind Austria, Slovakia, Hungary and Slovenia. As you have posted, there is a small chance that Croatia can move up this table, but that will take a lot of generosity from teams like England, Portugal and Danmark.

Let's talk about the truth and facts. Croatia can no longer leave the group. Getting 2 points in the third best category will depend on many miracles coming together. Some of the other games didn't have more goals and maybe Austria could have kept it till the end, I think Netherlands should be able to counter that otherwise Poland could have won against France this could be a big obstacle for him but it's all still possible.

Southgate's strategy has always been much debated as he seems to be going downhill with no direction, we'll see how Southgate goes about his tactics, Slovenia will make it difficult for England.

England will be facing Slovenia who are not that strong in both defense and probably the attack, with how Southgate has been handling the 3 Lions is not as we expected of them in terms of play. I mean he is quite old now, and him playing 2 more years for world cup, will not be all that simple at all. I think it is clear that we are talking about him leaving, retiring after this one unless he does something unbelievable.

The possibility of him still playing isn't impossible, because this dude had man of the match on this game, meaning that he is still quite amazing when he plays, but he is getting very old, so if he retires then it would be the expected. Italy had huge difficulties to even get a draw against Croatia, which should not be underestimated because of Modric. He always knows when to play a tactical pass and does it, as well.
