Injuries causes decline in performance not just top players and it takes time before the player gets back to his full form; it takes generally hardwork and consistency, what will be worse if the decline in performance causes defeat of the team and it’s occurred in several teams, I feel alot of several big time would decline in performance based of this injury issues.
When you see team that’s not affected by injured players, then you should know the team has some quality players in key positions of the team. Squad depth comes into play e.g when there’s an injury there’s a player to cover up and it looks as if there’s no injury at all. We can see that in teams like Real Madrid, Manchester City, Leverkusen will come out top of the match and grab all 3 points.
But it is even worse if the decline in performance is caused by a loss of confidence and also feeling of lack of enthusiasm experienced by other players when main player is injured.
They will think that without these main players they will never be able to win and they will not even be able to play well and conditions like this will really destroy team hopes of winning the match.
In fact, the coach job is to give confidence and provide motivation that they can win without the main players, but some coaches fail to do this, which causes the team to decline over a longer period of time.
It is clear that they are team with very high quality playing composition throughout because when player is injured, there are still reserve players who have almost the same playing quality.
Even though it not many, several big teams have managed to have it and in several seasons they have proven it.
In this European League, I think the one who really looks consistent and stable is Leverkusen, they have shown how strong Xabi Alonso teaching is.
