This was beyond my prediction, even I had to lose money because I was confident Leverkusen could win. Xabi is dead in the water with this Final. Leverkusen's build up was always disrupted by the one man marking strategy.  So Leverkusen were forced to do long ups and downs which they rarely do. The midfielders who were key to the attack failed to move freely.
Xabi Alonso did not use Andrich in eleven starting players and this bad decision made Leverkusen midfield weaker in the first half. The first half is when Atalanta destroyed Leverkusen with two goals and got big advantage before the second half.

Xabi Alonso in this final match, shows that he is not too responsive when the match goes oppositely with his initial plan. Xabi Alonso must improve it a lot to become a better coach and to win titles in direct matches. In final matches, decision within 90 or 120 minutes will decide the winner, champion, not how good or impressive you play in a season.

Quote
Ademola Lookman was the player who broke Leverkusen's defense. I saw his goals were created mostly through his ball carrying skills and taking advantage of defenders guarding him too wide.
He is a brightest player in the final match but Atalanta won the title because their midfielders and defenders played very well in this match too. They did not Leverkusen to create many opportunities as usual and did not let Leverkusen to score any goal.

Atalanta did better than Roma as we see Roma led Leverkusen with two goals, when the match has only about 10 more minutes but they failed to secure it. Atalanta had about 60 more minutes but they did not let Leverkusen score even 1 goal, and they even scored the third goal for this big win.

This condition certainly led Atalanta to win the Europa League and is ready to add to the Italian quota that will play in the UCL. Leverkusen, on the other hand, ended their unbeaten streak this season and they certainly failed to win 3 trophies this season. They may still have a chance to win the DFB-Pokal against FC Kaiserslautern.

Leverkusen seemed that they have forced their limit to the achieve the unbeaten record. That ambition got them backfired by exhaustion. Leverkusen kept winning or drawing games in the last minutes has really made them drained to their limit. They entered the game with so lack of focus that made Atalanta scored two goals in the first half.

Atalanta seemed to have learned a lesson after a loss in Copa Italia to Juventus. They started the game really well, exploited any space in the Leverkusen's defense, this tactics succeeded to put them on a two-goals lead. This situation made all Leverkusen's plans on the game became meaningless, Everything became out of control for them. This will be a good lesson for Alonso in his managerial career.
Congratulations again to Atalanta for been crowned Europa League Champions for 2023/2024 season. Bayer Leverkusen keeping unbeaten run only for them to lose 3 nil in the Europa League final to Atalanta. This was one of the most humiliating defeats for them and I gives credits to Atalanta headcoach, Gian Piero Gasperini for an outstanding task delivered successfully. Atalanta understood the pressure and game pattern of Bayer Leverkusen and they absorbed all pressure and reciprocated with exerted full energy which ended quite excellent on their end.

Possibly that was it, an unbeaten run that somehow drew their attention from the games ahead and not a clear understanding of what have been archived, what would mean the most to the team than an unbeaten run and to test some of its bench and as well as introduce some of its academy players to the game. They really hoped to do it with one squad but, this was Atalanta in the finals. A team that has shown some quality performance and have some real good players within its edition.
The defense was really terrible, at how swift they allowed look man to come seeking them out and finding those openings to get a good sight at goal. It was terrific and he delivered the Europa for Atalanta with zero contest from Bayer Leverkusen.

I was always one of the guys here who dont fully back Bayern Leverkusen in this tournament, in the last time i start to back them a litle bit more because they were showing a unique habilty to scape from every dificult situation, but also yesterday in this thread i said, for me it was super high odds 4.33 for Atalanta to win, and you see Atalanta oblited LEverkusen with a Lookman out of this world yesterday.

Before the match I also considered Bayer Leverkusen as the favorites, but Atalanta came here by eliminating Lisbon, Marseille and Liverpool. Leverkusen won many rounds and games with last minute goals. Actually, I think they lost this cup because they wanted to go undefeated in the league. If they had started the league matches with a reserve squad when they secured the league title, they would have been stronger in this tournament. Their desire to win the league title undefeated caused them to have a bad ending in the UEFA Europa League.

A few days ago I had expressly said that it was wrong to underestimate Atalanta in this competition and to give them as sure losers. Leverkusen have done extraordinary things both in the Bundesliga and in the Europa League, but last night they found in front of them a team that wasn't afraid of anyone, not even the European bigs. Here someone had said that Atalanta only had luck, I say instead that Atalanta concentrated and used their strengths on the cups and slightly neglected Serie A. Eliminating Sporting Lisbon, Liverpool and Marseille doesn't really seem like luck to me, but underneath there is meticulous teamwork devoted to getting the best possible result. And last night we had confirmation of that, they beat the favourites without ever risking any major attacks from the opponents, I only get compliments for Atalanta

Talking about the bets i think it's not only you who lost because i think majority the bettors have already to lost their money too this because people know Leverkusen is the favourite in this competition since the beginning of season and their performance also very fantastic because on group stages Leverkusen can able to win all of the matches and at round of 16 too Leverkusen can able to beat Qarabag dramatially and even in the semifinal Leverkusen can made epic comeback from Roma which makes they can eliminate Roma so i think it's normal if you were bet for Leverkusen because they are strong candidate to gets the trophy from this competition

Atalanta indeed can surprised us because previously their status is only dark horses team and nobody thought they can ended this tournament as the champion besides that i am sure almost every people at here predict Leverkusen will be able to overcomes them because compared to them Leverkusen performance during this season is more impressive but Atalanta can reserved the situation and they can make a history even the final scores is really unexpected because Atalanta can able to win with big scores
Atalanta performed beyond expectations, few people believed and dared to bet on their victory, I think the result of the match was definitely a big surprise. So far, bookmakers have suffered a lot of losses because Leverkusen was undefeated. Atalanta win made the bookies smile broadly because this time they made big profits, because almost all of the bettors chose Leverkusen. Ademola Lookman hat trick destroyed Leverkusen hopes of realizing their ambition of achieving a historic treble winner, Leverkusen luck ended in being beaten by Atalanta. Xabi Alonso squad actually deserves appreciation, because after all, their longest winning record will still be difficult for any team to surpass in the future.

Leverkusen luck was completely gone, the miracles they usually produce at the end of the match did not happen, and in this case Atalanta luck was greater. Despite the very disappointing course of the match, Leverkusen defeat to Atalanta is an important note for bettors, that in football there are many surprises that can happen, the favorite team can lose without a fight. On the other hand, I congratulate Atalanta for successfully winning the Europa League trophy this season, even though many previously doubted their strength.

It is quite difficult to adequately assess the chances of a team and put a normal odds when the opponent is a team that has never lost and is now entering its last match of the season. So I'm not surprised by these odds, although like many people I believed in Liverkusen's victory. They have come a long way anyway and left behind broken records, so they can be proud of themselves
Leverkusen should still be proud of themselves because they credibly well this season, they won Bundesliga unbeaten and played almost all matches unbeaten in the Europa League until yesterday when Atalanta defeated them in their last match of the season that will make them a treble winners. This lose should not be an excuse to criticize their performance, in fact, I blame Alonso for putting some of his important players on bench in the beginning of the match, which shows that they completely did not expect a defeat against an Atalanta side that couldn’t make it to top four in their domestic league Seria A.

Leverkusen remain my best German team of the year and my best team of the season because they showed an impressive performance this season with average players that are not completely known in the world of football.

Next season, Leverkusen will go again and will make sure they have another wonderful season to prove to the world that this season is not just by luck.

Actually for this case it is not quite difficult to assess the chances of the existing odds, it's just that football is sometimes unpredictable and results like this cannot be imagined because in the end why the odds are always a benchmark is because the club's performance in other matches is a reference but in 90 minutes of the match it's a different story because we can't say that big odds or strong probabilities can be a benchmark to keep winning but it's just a rough picture of the biggest possibility that will happen, if in the end it doesn't match expectations then we don't need to feel dizzy because football depends on how the strategy for 90 minutes on the field.

What happened to Leverkusen yesterday they actually didn't play badly because they played very well, it's just that Atalanta was much better and better prepared especially with the 2 goals they scored in the first 30 minutes of the match making them so confident in defense.

Atalanta secured a historic 3-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen, clinching their first-ever European trophy. Ademola Lookman stole the spotlight with hat-trick, becoming the first player to achieve this feat in a European final in 49 years. I believe that Coach Gian Piero Gasperini’s intensity and tactical brilliance played a crucial role in Atalanta’s success. Atalanta fans, whose teams are often overshadowed by giants such as AC Milan and Inter Milan, are living a fairy tale. Additionally, Bayer Leverkusen’s impressive 51-match unbeaten run came to an end.

I shout out to all the players of Atalanta who made great outing yesterday. The coach was confident enough to make the club stronger and more result oriented. Due to the current outstanding performance of Leverkusen, I thought they are taking the lead but it was otherwise as Atalanta was able to take the challenge head-on and make a 3 straight win to bring the trophy home.

Another significant event that happened was that Atalanta was able to break the unbeatable streak of Leverkusen with a hattrick from Lookman in the following minutes of the game which includes 12 minutes, 26th minute and 75th minute of the game.

Atalanta started to attract the attention of many people when they were able to beat Liverpool, since then I have had a different assessment of Gian Piero Gasperini's troops. The collective style of play combined with a strong Italian-style defense line was able to make opponents panic. Liverpool are known for having above average abilities, but they have to admit that greatness. Likewise, Alonso was also shocked by the performance shown by Atalanta, so he failed to make his troops develop and had to bow down due to being bombarded with 3-0. Atalanta was truly extraordinary and was able to break Bayer Leverkusen's record.
I observe that Atlanta has got so much strength around their defense that it takes some extra strength to be able to break through their defense and getting to be able to stay ahead and eventually win them, their style is more like a collective defense system where everyone gets to defend the team so they don't get to concede a goal especially if they have been able to score a goal against their opponent already.

Leverkusen probably didn't take note of the tough defense Atalanta has got and so it got them surprised how they were unable to penetrate and get a single goal in that game, Leverkusen is such a team that they have been able to defile the odds all along and have been able to win game where they were down by goals much earlier and so they felt they could achieve the same with the finals and so when Atlanta got ahead of them by two goals in the first half, they taught they could put up a come back in the second half but sadly they couldn't successful get that done.

Personally I never for once taught Atlanta were ever going to be the winners of the Europa and as you have rightly mentioned, after their victory over Liverpool they became  even more confident end have been able to surpass height we couldn't think they would much earlier, it seemed like winning Liverpool was an eye opener to them and  ever since they have been able to dare to do even more which the became fortune to win the league title.

The unexpected outcome of the match came as a significant surprise, and while I aim to remain impartial,it's hard to overlook the potential influence of bookmakers in such situations.Prior to the game, bettors worldwide heavily favored Leverkusen to secure victory, whether through a straightforward win, extra time,or even penalties. The financial stakes for bookmakers were undoubtedly high, and a Leverkusen triumph would have resulted in significant losses for them.

While I am not making any accusations,it's worth considering the hand bookmakers may have had in shaping the outcome.Atalanta, while a good team in their own, might not have been perceived as strong enough to overcome a side like Leverkusen, especially one boasting an impressive 50-game unbeaten streak. However, the unpredictability of sports betting is undeniable, with surprise results often defying expectations.

I understand your point but this kind of thing is not easy to detect, especially in the final match it is indeed difficult to accept the logic that Leverkusen was defeated by 3 goals, because previously we knew how Leverkusen played before reaching the final and also their performance in the local league. On the other hand, Atalanta also played well before reaching the final, they beat favorite teams like Liverpool well this is why I say it is not easy to detect whether the bookie is fixing this match.

This competition is over there is nothing we can argue about and the new season is coming soon. As a gambler, this final match is an example that anything can happen in a match so no need to be too confident. Do you think unexpected results will also happen in Champions League match?

Such a performance from Leverkusen's side is truly disappointing as a team that went undefeated to win the title and lost in important matches such as the final of the Europa League tournament where they won against other big opponents including Bayern Munich. Their poor performance in one match has lost the quality of a good performance in the entire season. Leverkusen were the favorites for the Europa League tournament this season but despite being the favourites, their performance has let us down. I bet for Leverkusen in the final match and I was disappointed to lose the bet. I am not only disappointed to lose the bet but also disappointed with their 90 minutes result in the overall final match as their result could have been different.

That is football for you. As long as you are engaged in football and gambling, you should always expect to lose. So it is not a new thing, but what I want you to know is that Beyer Leverkusen also played their best in that game. Everyone knows that it was just that the Atalanta defence was too hard for them to break through. So you should also remember that this almost happened when Bayer Leverkusen played their last game with AS Roma. They almost lost the game, but not until AS Roma refused to put more effort into their defence.

So that is what Atalanta use against them, they make sure to maintain their strong defence up till the end of the game, or did you expect them not to get the trophy as I did? I also supported Beyer leverkusen, but we just have to accept the truth that Atalanta try their best to see that they have their first Europa League cup and are also breaking their unbeaten record, so once again, I will say congratulations to Atalanta for their victory.

Lookman played a very spectacular game yesterday which he was able to break many records. Amongst them was that, he is the first player to score an hatrick in an European final and also the first African player to have done that. With his impressive performance yesterday, he is now heavily rooted for the award of best African player of the year after also reaching the finals of the African Cup of Nations early this year. Atalanta have won their only trophy for this season and with this award, they now have an automatic ticket into the champions league next season. They will meet with their likes and more competitive teams there, hopefully they can be able to farewell and come out victorious from the first stage of the competition before reaching the knockout stages. Nothing lasts forever and Atalanta and put an end to the unbeaten run of Bayern Leverkusen in a skilful way and also a big defeat to them in a final which they were never expecting or saw it coming.
Ademola Lookman set his individual record in the Europa League with a hat-trick, while Atalanta became the first Serie A team to win the Europa League after changing its name from the UEFA Cup. This achievement is very encouraging, of course also for Atalanta, who have won the European title for the first time.

Leverkusen, who were expected to appear impressive with favorite status, ultimately had to give up with a landslide score of 3-0. Things didn't go according to plan and Leverkusen bowed in shame and admitted their mistake. Leverkusen certainly dominated possession of the ball, but until the final minute they were unable to score because Atalanta's defense was very good. Atalanta's struggle was extraordinary, even Leverkusen's unbeaten record was stopped because of them.

I was the opposite, as I've always wanted these Bayern Leverkusen side to make and set history, they was suppose to look at how Juventus handled them during Copa Italia, but they was not compact unlike Juventus. They Bayern Leverkusen was too porous with them defense and I was surprised no substitution cake in to back that up. Ademola Lookman made good use of all the chances he had.

So much was expected from Bayern Leverkusen but they messed things up completely. Lookman was buzzing last night after double failures from the other finals, he single handedly won them the game yesterday.
People are now rooting for him to win the African best player award, bit I feel like Sebastian Haller deserves it, who is àlso in the Champions League Competition Finals.

I definitely could not believe it when I saw this. When I first saw it I thought the result was reversed and Leverkusen was actually the winner of this match. But then I looked at it correctly and I saw it was actually Atalanta who was able to win this match. And that was a very big surprise. I believe it was actually a surprise for everyone. Because everyone thought that the result was going to be the other way around. Now I cannot be mad because of what has been able to achieve in this season. at the same time of course that achievement could have been a lot better if they were able to win the Europa League competition. Leverkusen was able to keep the possession of the ball. But they were not able to do much with it. By the way Atalanta played really roughly in this match. But they were able to win and that’s what matters.

The match went very surprising for most people without doubt. It was like most of the world were waiting for Leverkusen to win.  Grin  I guess nobody expected them to play this poorly - including me.  Tongue

I didn't like Xabi Alonso's tactical preferences in this match. It didn't fit a coach like him who had a 51-match unbeaten series. Gasperini looked well-prepared against their tough opponent though. His players performed fearlessly.  Smiley

By the way while it was 2-0 I still couldn't be sure of Atalanta. You know the Roma comeback. But Lookman's completing a hat-trick by a great goal sealed the deal! Completely deserved win and a marvelous effort by Lookman.  Wink
People really miss their prediction in this final game that happened between Atalanta and Bayer Leverkusen, because they thought unbearable team will use that advantage to secure goals that will make them to lift the trophy, but it was a shocked that they couldn't score a single goal from the game.

Well, Bayer Leverkusen coach tried by bringing the team to this final game, which he need to be celebrated for that but Atalanta coach really understand the Bayer Leverkusen strategy that made his players never to allowed their strikers to secure a goal from the game.

The 2 goals was secure by one player lookman before he added another goal to make it 3:0 to beat Bayer Leverkusen in the final game, which is a big disgrace to Bayer Leverkusen fans that came for far and near to celebrate with Bayer Leverkusen.
Honestly speaking the game yesterday was really unbelievable because looking at how good Bayern Leverkusen are one could not believe that Atalanta is going to won them in UEFA Europa league final, because despite the 2 goals in the first half i was still have strong feeling that Bayern Leverkusen is going to level the game in the second half because of their unbeaten record but Lookman said know that it must end yesterday.
