Villarreal players must be really happy about winning the title. Because they had a chance in the La Liga for promoting to the Europa League but they lost their chance by losing to Real Madrid. If they didn't defeat Manchester Utd in this final game, things were going to be so much different. Congrats to them again and I wish them good luck in the Champions League also.  Grin

it turned out to be more accurate in terms of predictions, this was proven when the unseeded Villarreal were able to win in the match against Manchester United, even though it was clear that in this match Manchester United was more favored to win and actually fell behind 0-1 before Cavani equalized in the second half. .

Really the best players at Man United, they had a bad night. They failed to show their true quality, which did not help the team. Of course, Villarreal have all the merit of having managed to nullify these players, not allowing them to have freedom of movement.
Can said Villareal have more motivate to win than Manchester United and almost United player looks easy fight with Villareal and more optimist win before match, this said by Manchester United legend Paul Scholes because he was angry with all United player Underestimate Villareal player.

Seville have won so many times in a row, in the last few years, that the guys don't even notice that they are not the ones who win. Roll Eyes Grin
true, especially if we know that sevilla managed to win the european league in succession with unai emery, who is now a coach to bring villarreal winners of european league it seems that many people can't forget what unai emery has made in sevilla and even now they are still reminiscing about it so they forget that the one who won the European League this season was villarreal not sevilla Grin

i dont like the game
and i dont expect Manchester United is so slow (mentally, i mean in the mind)

i dont bet because at this level is hard to win a bet... congrats to villareal Smiley i'am happy for this tiny team
but i dont like this kind of game

long, boring, exhausting

If you don't have a winning option then there are many other options for bet  Grin I place both teams to score  because I think both teams are capable of doing it
At first everyone favored Man United to win but Villarreal was able to score first and hold the draw until the end and they were lucky on penalties

The problem isn't in Solskjaer. The problem is above him, and in general perception of Manchester United.

Yesterday was all the proof you need. The majority expected United to win, a lot of people gave Villarreal no chance at all. After all, they are playing United!

These times have passed, United is nowhere near what they were and they need to start acting like it. Their last league win was almost 10 years ago, their last trophy that same Europa league won under Mourinho in 2017.

The aura around the club is as if they deserve the trophy without even playing for it and the reality is that they have been utter crap throughout the last 10 years or so. Dropping Solskjaer? For what exactly? He actually overachieved this season.

Finally someone who makes sense. I'm not a United fan at all but even I can see the problem has never been with the managers. It was not OGS, It was not Mourinho, It was never van Gaal or all the other people in between Ferguson and now. It has always been the American owners problems.

Which is different at City and Chelsea, even though they have rich owners, they structure things very differently.

Totally agree OGS overachieved (but then he did have expensive squad).

It was not the first time that an alternate goalkeeper had entered only for penalties.

No, I was thinking of Tim Krul in the 2014 World Cup when I made that post: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/28180956
It can make tactical sense to bring on a specialist penalty-stopping keeper... the only downside I suppose is that normally there isn't much pressure on a keeper in a shootout, however if you've just been brought on in the last minute specifically to save penalties, that could affect you mentally. Having said that, it could also have a mental impact on the opposing side.

It's a strange rule that goalkeepers have to take penalties.

It would be more fun if the first 5 have to do the penalty shootout. The goalkeeper knows where they scored the last time and it would be a more psychological game. Will they dare to shoot in the same corner or will they switch?

That was what would happen if De Gea scored. They are again the first 5 players to score the penalties.

The rules are even simple, if you are tied after the 5 penalties, the penalties remain the rest of the players who were in play to score. If at the end of the 11 players, everything is still tied, repeat the sequence again.

What is the probability of reaching the goalkeeper? It is not common. Usually after 6 or 7 penalties, someone fails.

But in this game it happened. All the players were making the penalties well.

You can’t blame De Gea for missing the penalty, there is always going to be a villain in a shootout. I’m surprised it got to 10-10. Maybe the only thing you can criticise De Gea for is he could have saved one?

I also don't think De Gea should be blamed for that. Goalkeepers shouldn't take penalties at all, in my opinion, only if they have talent for it. I'm surprised that no outfield player took the responsibility and scored a second time.

The match was not that exciting for a final game but penalty shoot-out was maybe the best final ever. It was a dramatic finish for Manchester United and magnificent victory for Villarreal. This is their first major cup, they won it before Spanish league and cups, that's another exciting anecdote. Rulli tried so hard to save a penalty but he couldn't, until the end. That way it was more precious, goalkeepers against each other, what a game! I'm happy for Villarreal although this victory affected Turkish clubs, Beşiktaş have to start CL groups in last seed and Galatasaray have to play one more round in EL qualification games.
Unai Emery with his 5th final match in Europa League does not want to give Manchester United open space to play in the final. He, with his experience, obviously knows that Manchester United has great play-makers, Bruno Fernandez and Paul Pogba. Players with good speed acceleration as Mason Greenwood and Rashford and productive striker Cavani. He knows well so he plans a strict mach for Villareal. The leading goal makes the plan become more easily to be finished. Emery made 5 substitutions whilst Solskajer did not make a single one till the 100th minute.

Solkajer once again shows he is not a good coach. He believes in his players or he is lack of confidence to make substitutions. It is not a characteristic of a great coach. Sir Alex, Mourinho, Pep and Klopp don't hesitate with subsitutions.

Congratulations to Villarreal for winning the Europe League trophy. Villarreal defeated Manchester United in the penalties, having drew in the 90 minutes of the game, they won with a 11-10 score. I knew the game was going to be a tough one for both teams, but Villarreal proved themselves worthly of lifting the Europe League cup this season. This is their first time winning the Europe League, and also won the League unbeaten. They won 13 and drew 2 out of the 15 matches they played in the Europe League this season.
Manchester United will be playing in the Champion League next season, they don't have much to regret over losing to Villarreal. I must confess, they really tried their best.

Entering a discussion blindly is bad at least make use of livescores to get the full information needed to join the conversation, I was so surprised when he congratulated sevilla for winning the Europa league instead of Villarreal well it could be because he saw the formal sevilla boss Emery lifting the trophy .

Congratulations to Villarreal for winning the title at the end. It was a really interesting game surely. Villarreal ended the first half 1-0 ahead. After that, we saw much better Manchester Utd in the second half and they managed to equalize the score. But they couldn't score the second one which was going to bring about the title also. The extra time was boring but the penalties not. It was like nobody was going to miss even one penalty.  Cheesy  De Gea was the one who missed and Villarreal reached the title after penalties, 11-10. Also, they won this cup for the first time in their history.
Yes, congratulations to Villarreal and after all, Villarreal deserves that. I bet on United but I feel in the final match yesterday United played badly, even the attacks that were built could not be used properly. But to be honest, I don't like how Rashford is playing because it doesn't seem like he is in high spirits to win. Until finally there was a penalty shootout which I thought United would win that way, but yes I keep hoping United win throughout the game even though I know it's impossible with that way of playing.

It was interesting that both teams brought on players who were good at taking penalties... but each player go bring on can only contribute to one penalty... whereas if you bring a specialist penalty-saving goalkeeper, he can contribute to every penalty. It seems to me that bringing on a specialist goalkeeper would be more beneficial than bringing on a specialist penalty taker... and after all, it has been done before to winning effect.
I'm not talking about the penalty that De Gea missed but the 11 that he didn't save. Grin Neither I'm one of the people that will blame the keeper for not saving a penalty. Still his negative record remains...
Of course, I agree with you that getting a penalty saver specialist keeper is been proved a good choice for teams but maybe a better choice is to have a better goalkeeping coach with a specialty in penalties? Besides, I doubt that a goalkeeper would like to be on the bench just for such an occasion.
Yeah, I do feel shocked at the fact that 21 goals were scored on penalties, that seems like more unlikely situation. I have seen games where penalties went to goalkeeper before in my life but I do not remember any time when nobody missed it until that point.

De gea really doesn't have any fault in there at all, his responsibility was for saving and he failed to save and you can blame him for not saving even a single penalty and that would be understandable, he got close two times I think and yeah that could have given them the win BUT not scoring is understandable, how many times does he practice that anyway? Sure he is expected to be better than me at that, but he is still not expected to score a goal against a professional goalkeeper, he could or he could miss and both are fine. It was unlucky and I really expected United to win but it wasn't meant to be.

imo the quality of those pens was so good, the shootout coulda lasted like 20 more minutes if it wasn't for de gea missing the last pen, no chance for the Gk's to stop those rockets!
but I don't blame De Gea, i blame Solskjaer, didn't make subs in the 90min, didn't try to change the gameplan, but then decided to chill in ET and wait for the pens? no winning mentality
