He is one of best goal keepers but he has bad record for penalty saves.
LOL, looks like that's De Gea's weakness all this time. But you shouldn't blame him for the failure suffered by Manchester United in this final because during the 120 minute of the match, the players actually did not manage to score more than 1 goal against the opponent's goal. I felt they were the favorite before, but they failed to do well.

Congratulation to Villarreal fighting to win the title against the champions' favorite. Match are never easy and Villarreal is lucky enough as 1 in 11 Manchester United players fail to score well. I don't think De Gea deserves ridicule because he did a good job but luck was not on their side. What's great is that 22 players get the chance to take the penalty kick. Something that rarely happens in final.
Congratulations Villarreal.

However, I am shocked because the final match gives me a surprising statistics for David De Gea. He is one of best goal keepers but he has bad record for penalty saves. I have never know it after the final match. But Manchester United can not say the failure is because of De Gea. They played worse than Villarreal in the match and as an upper team in pre analysis before the match started, they should do better.

Cavani scored again but can not bring another win to Manchester United and Mourinho is the latest coach helped them win a title.

Well, I had a hunch that De Gea might failed to score and then it happened
I felt the same when I saw him preparing for the penalty.
I think he was affected, not having saved the penalty before. He was almost there, but he didn't make it. This affected his performance in scoring the penalty.
It looks like he went for the shot already thinking he was going to fail, and he failed!
Well the same goes for Rulli because both keepers play for a full 120 minutes and both didnt manage to save any penalty before their turn. I just had the hunch that after the 6th shooter from both teams scored, I knew for a second that this might end with either of the keepers failing to score. Rulli took the shot first and managed to score then I had the hunch that De Gea might fail

Well I gotta say that Manchester United did all they could for this game and it was basically 50 50 at the penalty shootout so yeah its all good though. Runner up in Europa League and 2nd in EPL, next season would be better  Smiley

I think both teams are playing well, it's just that Villarreal is a little luckier. And losing on penalties is no shame, because the odds are 50-50.
I'm sure Manchester United next season will definitely be even better, they learn from their defeats in the Premier League and Europa League.
And I am amazed by Unai Emery proving Arsenal wrong for firing him, because Emery proved he was able to give the Europa League trophy
to Villarreal. Although Villarreal is not many star players, but Emery can make their team play very solid.

I'm very much proud of my team, making it all the way to the very end of the game.

But sadly, it was just a matter of one spot kick!
Naturally when a final gets to spot kicks, you don't have to be the better side to win, you just have to be smart enough to convert from the spot.)

It can happen to any team ( Already 16 English teams failing to win a Spanish side in the finals)

This is what makes football interesting, this is why we love the beautiful game.

Congratulations To Villarreal for making history.

We never stop believing

These are the penalties that I have never seen before until 11 players became executors. Poor De Gea, he failed. I just curious if De Gea making a goal and score to be 11-11, who the next executor? the substitution player?

Villarreal fulfilled his promise to make United without a title this season. this is a big miracle, they came to a winner and got the ticket as champions league participant on the next session. Spain have 5 club, Atletico, real madrid, barcelonad, sevila and Villarreal.

I was thinking of somebody missing within 5 penalty shots but they all scored. United did well but really sorry for them not getting the proper results.

It was a penalty shootout and literally each team has 50 50 chance to win so yeah. I think they did pretty well though and to be honest, it would feel sucks if any of the other 10 players failed to score the penalty. Well, I had a hunch that De Gea might failed to score and then it happened

If I were him, I wouldn't have used De gea on the post

It has nothing to do with De Gea. De Gea has been playing in the Europa League ever since the quarter final so yeah it does make sense if Ole choose him to play for the Final as well

If Ole does not trust his bench he should simply sell them off.

Ole trust all of his players.

I see a lot of people putting the blame on De gea but if you want to win a highly competitive knockout match, you've to win in regular time and not leave anything to chance.

I rather blame Ole than De Gea. The manager in which Ole approaches finals marvels me. If I were him, I wouldn't have used De gea on the post. Just like what happened with Romero last time. The keeper performed excellently well during group matches, but when it was time for finals, from no where he brought De Gea.
Ok, apart from the part of De Gea, how about Ole's last born - Rashford?
Was he supposed to even have upto 45mins playing time?
If Ole does not trust his bench he should simply sell them off.

Villarreal 11 - 10 ManU /penalties  Lips sealed
Congrats Villarreal, didn't see this coming.
My prediction was wrong. Only today have I witnessed 11 penalties for each team. What a thrilling match, Waiting for the player's penalty miss, and in the end De Gea failed. Congratulations to Villareal. You have made Manchester United sad again after losing again to a Spanish club in the European league. Too bad De Gea had no luck to leave the Red Devils titleless this season.

It was a well-deserved victory for Villarreal. They ought to have killed the game in the 2nd half but they didn't utilize their chances. Villarreal was the better side tonight. What a shame to Man United! They were not United tonight. It's a pity it ends this way for Manchester United

They had plenty of time to prepare before the game. I don't think Harry Maguire's absence is enough for an excuse. They should have done more to stop that goal in the first half and they couldn't handle Villarreal's defense the way I expected them too. Looked shaky all evening. I see a lot of people putting the blame on De gea but if you want to win a highly competitive knockout match, you've to win in regular time and not leave anything to chance. That's what man Utd did. They didn't do anything in the 30 minutes extra time. They had it coming.

It's football and anything can still happen. Man Utd are the favorites though.
Congrats to Villarreal on their win.

This game is a joke (I am pissed), Villarreal dominating the first half and scored then it was totally the opposite in the second half, no goal scored in extra time, very late substitution, then penalties to see it kicked 11 times.

If you ask me, the whole game Manchester United were having trouble finding an opening. The goal Cavani scored was lucky enough to fall quite easily for Cavani rebound off the player. I think it was well deserved for Villarreal. Just think of the pressure they would have been facing De Gea. I was thinking of somebody missing within 5 penalty shots but they all scored. United did well but really sorry for them not getting the proper results.

This is what a finals should look like, quite interesting and I couldn't have wished for more. We saw a complete shift of powere with regards to dominance from each side of the team and both teams were really in the game, making sure every minutes count. The penalty shots were really classic, with all players delivering a wonderful one 8n the net with each play. I've not seen a thing quite like it in a long long time. No player was determined not to score.  Too bad for De Gea not to have saved any but eventually lost his shot as G. Rulli jumped on the ball to make a good save.

Villarreal was really surprising tonight. No one expected them to make it to the final, talk more of taking the trophy. Thats one international trophy for Spain.

Maybe whole game wasn't most exciting and it's not very surprising that it come to extra time and penalties. Yeah, in 2nd half MU dominated, but they didn't created something extraordinary. And then, penalty shootout is lottery. It's difficult to remember such long shootout without any saves by goalkeepers. And De Gea is most unlucky man now. He haven't made any saves and missed decisive penalty. But it wouldn't be right to blame him.
Unai Emery - Mr. Europa league. 4th Europa league title for him. First ever big trophy for Villarreal and they also qualified for next season Champion league.

Good football game. Congratulations Villarreal.
Any club could have won. Villarral better in the first half, Man United better in the second.
On penalties, any team can win. After 22 penalties, Villarreal wins.

10 minutes left still 1-1, United got the chance of scoring the second goal but we are now really close to the penalty lottery.

Even Manchester seems to be losing time on purpose right now and I feel they are ok with the 1-1.
Now in the Extra time and are still playing 1-1 draw, the match seems to be getting more tougher for Manchester United to win.
Villarreal are not giving up on winning the match,  they won in the first half of the game. Although, Cavani scored in the second half, making the score 1-1.

1-1 in the final between Villareal and United.

United is stronger and they are dominating the game.
If I need to tell you who will win I say Manchester.

Manchester Utd dominated especially the second half. They managed to equalize the score also with Cavani's goal. And they could have finished the job in 90 minutes also. But they had problems on finishing (1 out of 9 shots on target). However in the extra time so far, we've seen a better Villarreal. They really want this title. If Manchester Utd don't do the same, Villarreal might finish the job before even going to penalty-shootouts.
