Quite the easy fight for The Polar Bear Sergey Spivak against a defeated Derrick Lewis late last night.
It wasn't even a challenge from the very start. He basically rag dolled him the entire time it took him to submit him on the ground.
Very disappointing way for him to go out since it didn't even look as if he wanted to fight as it ended early in the first round.

Atleast we got that out of the way and can get on with the big event coming up next weekend!
Buckle up UFC fans!

UFC Fight night Main event fights this weekend are with the rematch that was suspended between Derrick Lewis vs Sergey Spivak.

Be sure to put in your selections early for the multi master challenge up above if you haven't yet.

This should be a good one with alot of Asian fighters coming into the competition. So it will be lights out with fast and furious action.

Jon jones hasnt fought in 3 years so i think the 2.1 odds on gane are really really generous, but it would be quite a statement if jones wins this no sweat.

Wish ngannou was still with ufc, but huge respect to the man for standing up for fighters by putting his wallet at risk

coming to the fights this week, i love derrick lewis at 2.8 odds

Busy weekend in sports and glued to the tv all afternoon with so many sports going on all at the same time.
Completely forgot there was a UFC event in progress since it is in Brazil so started earlier than usual on a Saturday night.

The first two fights have already been done and now McKinney is fighting and it is a bruiser!

Saw another thread with someone saying they put over $2,500usd on one of the fights on the main card.
Moreno vs Figueiredo as the co-main event shouldn't be one to disappoint as it their fourth fight.

I wills say Figueiredo will win and settle this saga once and for all!

The last UFC was just closing when news broke heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou was leaving the UFC and in doing so giving up his title as well.
This was a very surprising thing to hear since the next big fight was set for him to face Jon Jones but with the unveiling of the banner with him fighting somebody else for 285 event the interviewer of MMAfighting Ariel Helwani confirmed on his podcast.

"Reacts to Francis Ngannou's UFC Departure, Dana White's Claims | The MMA Hour"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uizQbrVR2NQ
He then goes on to get an interview with Ngannou on the situation from his point of view released today:
https://www.mmafighting.com/2023/1/17/23558175/the-mma-hour-special-tuesday-edition-with-francis-ngannou

President of the UFC Dana White had also confirmed earlier then that Ngannou rejected the contract they offered to pay him making him the highest paid fighter in the UFC:

There won't be any disciplinary action taken against president of the UFC Dana White reported by many media outlets on this so far.

Was getting excited for the UFC to come back to fill our weekends out but yet another main event was cancelled for the first UFC fight of the year.
Don't know if it has been confirmed as it is still early but Sean Strickland is ready to take on Nassourdine Imavov for the main card.

In some serious news, inregards to what everybody has heard about by now with UFC president Dana White in an altercation with his wife on New Years eve. They are now asking for him to step down as president of the organization.
https://www.bloodyelbow.com/2023/1/10/23547954/us-senators-call-for-immediate-removal-of-dana-white-as-ufc-president-for-slapping-wife

This is still an ongoing investigation so nothing has been stated so far from the UFC on this matter.

After seeing news clips shown on main media, what gave his location away was a pizza box in his rebuttal video back to greta.
Jerry's pizza is a pretty well known pizzeria in Romania and they pin pointed his location from doing some simple searches in those cities.
Her response back was "I guess you should of recycled you pizza boxes." when Tate said in his video back to her he was glad not to use recycled boxes for his pizza.
What was a surprise is that authorities in several countries were looking for him going on five years.
Karma came to him in form of a Romanian cell for his New Years eve.

It has been slow for any news from anything in the UFC since the last fight several weeks ago.

.. Andrew Tate and Greta Thunberg on my feed.

Didn't even really know he was a UFC fighter (but that tells me it's been around longer than I was aware of).

Trash talking doesn't always pay off, huh?
As far as I know he was a kickboxer in Asia had some good fights then retired into running his mouth for a living.
Funny thing you mention about this Greta Thunberg thing amongst them happening.
Was Just watching a podcast about it which was the stupidest thing I had watched in a long time. And I watch alot of dumb stuff on youtube/podcasts happening.
She told him to send her an email back and the address she sent him was smalldickengery(at)getalife.com
Well you can make your own conclusions on that one.

Then just heard this live while looking for the video I was watching yesterday:
Andrew Tate detained in Romania from twitter exchange with Thunberg:

I never thought the day would come when my UFC browser (yeah I'm the kind of guy who runs about 10 instances of Chrome heh) opens up and all I see is Andrew Tate and Greta Thunberg on my feed.

Didn't even really know he was a UFC fighter (but that tells me it's been around longer than I was aware of).

Trash talking doesn't always pay off, huh?

Edit: So I've been informed my news feeds are at least slightly misguided, more of a former kickboxer.

Again, the rules "dont let judges decide your faith" worked. I also believe that Gordon won that fight, but he should have done more against UFC future cash cow. Judges that evening made a decision of not who won that fight, but who will sell more PPV in future. And Pimblett with growing popularity and 3-0 in UFC looked much better than Gordon with 7-4. With all that in-fight taunts Pimblett made a overall good impression on judges, and the scales dropped lowered to his side.
I can hear your criticism from that 7-4 score that must of been from that one judge(Crosby) Ariel has been talking about from a clip here:

I always knew that there are a lot of behind the scene games in UFC. The link that you have posted does not fully prove that there are fixed fights in UFC, but it proves that UFC is more oriented in money than in fair competition. Btw, you can search google for Seth Petruzelli interview. He says that UFC offered him money and asked no to use takedown or wrestling skills against Kimbo Slice, because Slice was a newbie in wrestling and a boxer (street boxer) primary. UFC did not want Slice to lose, wanted to make him a series of wins, to face heavyweight champ and make huge PPV sales. To bad Seth was able to TKO Slice instead of submitting him:D
There has always been some behind the scenes things going on in this fighting association going on from the very beginning so no surprise on what has come out as of late with it and a gambling controversy that was hard to ignore since it was banned in a region of North America a while ago because of it.
The video about how all this all transpired a few months ago:
The UFC has a MAJOR Gambling Problem | James Krause is only the beginning,,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltYTPauj_k4&list=WL&index=3

This was all because of a coach of a fighter in the UFC who blatantly confessed to betting on fights and even on the ones of his own fighter.
He had a discord server which gave out predictions on fights in the UFC for a subscription fee.
Very bad stuff to be involved with.

Yeah, and the amount of noise surrounding it too, seems disproportionately high. I mean, nothing compared to football I guess, but just that it seems there's so much streaming and streamers and the fighters themselves seem heavily involved too, it's like a lot of them also seem to live on media a lot.

Definitely seems to suggest there's a lot more money involved and more money-oriented moves than competition (to the amateur observer eye like mine anyway).

Yeah, don't know what to make of the drama, never really felt worked up about it, and even feel slightly put off the more I listen. Just give me those 3/1 odds and victory, really can do without the noise. Still, I know it's all part of the build up (and build down).

Put in my picks already, see a few familiar names, Strickland first pick, and then wondering if Brundage, Samelsberger or Dvorak require my money Wink
Agreed with you @buwaytress on everything you said.
It is solely for hyped up attention to the sport.
Dana White can not keep attending each and every event in making sure to carry it's success and has found out early on he needs a shining star to do that for him.
Before it was McGregor and Khabib but now those two are gone out of his operation so he need a Paddy the Baddy to do that for him.
He knows he needs a star fighter every couple of years that can carry it's success over to the next year until they are too old to fight in the octagon.
Paddy is 27 so he can get another decade out of him before his legs give out.
He was limping off after the fight as he injured his foot in the second round from the interviews I had viewed from other channels on the event.
