You guys realize that the SPEC ticker had already been used, right? SpecCoin. Probably dead now, but not likely that exchanges like Bittrex that previously had SPEC listed will list your coin with the same ticker, as it will create quite a bit of confusion.

OP, since SPEC is an anonymous currency, at what markets do you plan to deploy the currency and how do you plan to do it? My first guess would be making it useful and market it to darknet market place merchants into accepting the coin as payment since it has anonymous features.

As the crypto-community grows, several cryptocurrencies and wallets sprouted everywhere. Nowadays, privacy is indeed a basic but very important life requirement.
Protection, Privacy in your Pocket(s). The 3Ps I wanted for a wallet and spec have it all. With this we can say goodbye to unwanted audience(s) of the transactions we make, no more worries about having to look for encashment options that sometimes lead to scams and errors. And like a real physical wallet, with spec's mobile app, accessible from our pockets. Cant wait to use this.

@Op, why this thread is self moderated?
and why people calling you alt of eng.chaks?

I'm pretty sure the thread is self moderated, because mandica didn't want accusations made against him in this thread. They should be made in another one and you should post appropriate feedback on his trustpage.

Mandica has deleted one comment from FriendlyChemist. FriendlyChemist was so "friendly" and posted the exact same on here: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.16856369.
He is also the one calling Mandica an alt of eng.chaks.

I'm pretty sure you get the idea behind self moderation now.

Edit:
Sent a reply back to OP about the community manager position.

Also curious - if this is going to be an ICO, what are the generated funds being allocated towards?

Many projects (most recently BASH) proposed ridiculous ICO requests with no explanation as to why the money was needed.

Cheers!
In @OP it was stated what the money was going to be used for.

The reason it's moderated is that trolls like FriendlyChemist trawls the forums and get off on making baseless allegations about projects he has no knowledge of and obviously can't be bothered to read about or join the Slack for a discussion. I am on Slack every day and so are the other team members, but FriendlyChemist did not PM me or ask questions on Slack. I have no idea what eng.chaks is and what this is about. He also left me a feedback saying that he has risked 1 BTC, but I have never spoken to him before and I have never made any deals with him in any capacity anywhere, so what you have are people that lie for their own satisfaction and try to drag people down. I have been around for long enough to know how toxic this forum can be and so I think that a certain level of editorial control is sensible to weed out posts that are purely malicious. This is common practice web-wide. On most serious forums you find, there will be mods working to weed out the drivel and moderate the misbehaviour of muttonheads.

I will answer any questions and will NOT delete any criticism or observations as long as it's reasoned and not just malicious allegations. There is this weird sense among certain people on this forum that if you want to retain some editorial control over the contributions to your own project you are somehow a scammer. This is just nonsense. And, so if I choose to delete posts that are purely without merit and malicious and has nothing to do with the topic, it means nothing.

Follow the thread, follow updates on the website and join Slack if you want to discuss and give it a chance.

On the topic of the ICO funds. We have just hired a further mobile app developer to join the team and we are building what can best be described as a blockchain version of Hawala money transfer. Hawala is an ancient method of money transfer that exists outside of mainstream banking. The project will take that idea and put it into the 21st century and replace the old concept of trust with the blockchain. So, the whole overarching purpose of The Spectreproject is to provide a totally decentralised P2P mobile platform for cash transfers. No registration, no ID, no oversight and a zero knowledge chain. SDC was the perfect crypto to base this on as the crypto has a lot of the features we need. The mobile platform will be open source and will be released for anyone to use. We are not forming a commercial enterprise and will not take any profit from the app but we have an ideology that we will deliver software and a crypto, SPEC, that will be beyond censorship and control, pure P2P.

This is no mean feat and it will take some effort to make this work. We will hire team members to realise this plan and for the whole concept to work we need some serious PR and we need to get the app onto stores for people to download and use. You will be able to use this system with zero background in crypto and you do not need to know anything about crypto.

You, if you choose, will hold a share in SPEC and this will be the only cryptocurrency to be used in this system so the value appreciation will come from increased use. We believe that this is real world usage of blockchain tech. and crypto and unique today. It is also conceptually simple but solves a big problem for a lot of 'unbanked' people seeking to transfer money across borders.

hello i just want to know is there any social media bounties or another bounties?

So far they don't have social media bounties but just wait for it. But you can support their signature campaign by enrolling it and wearing their signature code as I wear it and a participant of its signature campaign. And you can just simply visit the signature campaign thread here -

Will it be open source or will it be closed off for the time being? (Dont know if its open source and the site didnt provide a repo link but couldve overlooked it)

Yes, the plan is roughly:
1. Finalise the code and generate the initial 20 mill. SPEC
2. Open the GitHub repo to the public, so yes it will be open source, just not until the code is finalised.
3. Release Windows Qt, Mac Qt and Linux Qt
4. A pre-alpha "blueprint" of the Spectre.Cash alternative remittance mobile platform will be presented.
5. More information on the team will be released.

This will be completed ahead of the start of the ICO, so you will be able to review the source and download the wallets.

Distribution will commence immediately after the end of the ICO.

Exchanges will be contacted as we are progressing through to distribution.

6. Spectre.Cash alternative remittance mobile platform will continue to be developed. The app will not be open source until after the app has been released into the "wild".
7. The app will only be using SPEC for transfers.

Yes, SPEC is based on SDC and uses the same tech. This is a very good platform to work from and to develop the mobile platform for alternative remittance. If you read the website, it does in fact state that SPEC is based on SDC and it explains why. Nothing to strange about that, 90% of all cryptos are based on previous ones, to expand and take in a different direction. SDC is based on Bitcoin but they have developed a HTML wallet that is perfectly suited to our ultimate goal.

We have never tried to obscure that...what is your point?

Just wondering whether you intend to also develop a marketplace and integrate tor and i2p as they are evident in the wallet or if you intend to copy code as and when SDC team release theirs.

Good choice of coin but just weary of intentions. I hope you can understand Smiley

The Tor and I2P, yes for sure, once the initial release is out. There is no issues with tracking SDC with the market place but it is also possible that the 'market place' tab will be replaced by something else. The main purpose here is to get a mobile platform for remittance using SPEC. There should be an announcement soon with a road map for this. Maybe 2-3 days. That is really the main purpose.
