After seeing all the super-computers in here, my i7-5820 isn't cutting it anymore.  I'm going to have to get more serious about my desktop upgrade.  I just bought my youngest a 16" Lenovo Slim 5 with a Ryzen 5-7530U so I could take back my little 13" Asus Zenbook (I love the all metal case) and it's much more powerful than my desktop.  Heck, the Zenbook isn't much slower than my desktop.  This will not stand, ya know, this aggression will not stand, man.

hey

I have a nice thread ripper rig  sitting in a box.

it would crush your i7-5820

 You bastard!  Wink

Awww thanks philipma1957, I appreciate the thought but my wife is poised, with checkbook in hand, to cut me a check for a new machine as soon as I make up my mind as to exactly what I want.   I'm still trying to digest all the advice and research material you guys gave me.

….

Maybe not five years but 2056 would be about right.

Yeah in 2056 at age 98 I envision myself rambling on about mining shit… I mean Scrypt coins…
“Well now… years ago, back in the good ole days I seem to recall….. blah blah blah repeated story blah blah….”
Then the nurse at Sunny Acres that changes my diaper will be like
“Now Mr Siraz, you need to stop babbling about mining for doggies and bitcoin nonsense and take your Geritol.
Then we will be petting real doggies and kitty cats after lunch for relax therapy time.
Then it will be nap time. We are having fish fingers, tater tots and
creamed spinach for dinner so you’d best be on your very best behaviour or no strawberry jello dessert for you!”

I don't get it. What if neither extreme outcome happens ? Mining gets less profitable than just owning BTC, but still profitable enough. Couldn't that continue forever ?

Yeah if it were LTC/Doge scrypt algo  that is designed to last for hunderds of years.

Strictly the mining part.

I theorize a lot of the attacks on btc via the mempool and high fees are deep pocket people betting that in terms of mining scrypt ends up the winner.

It is just that the Issue of how Buyers , whales , and Institutions can Influence Bitcoin is Something that interests me a lot I found this Article that talks about how they have left their long Positions , Which is not bad at All for it to be a Good time for the Price to rise to $73k again.

Institutional Investors Show Growing Interest in Market-Neutral Bitcoin Strategies

Quote
As reported, major Bitcoin investors have recently opened massive long positions on the flagship cryptocurrency via popular cryptocurrency exchanges Bybit and HTX at around $69,000.

That’s according to Ki Young Ju, CEO of cryptocurrency analytics firm CryptoQuant, who pointed out that these massive long positions are interesting in light of similar activity seen back in August 2023, when Bitcoin whales opened large long positions on BTC ahead of a parabolic price rise that saw the cryptocurrency move from around $25,000 to a new all-time high above $73,500.

If they have these long Positions , it means that it is very likely to see a good Turnaround of high Prices Again.

This is just nonsense.
Market neutral positions are… neutral.
If someone is amassing long outright positions, this tells a little about coming prices.
You know, when there is pain in the market, some is going to make it happen.

Doomed to see the future and unable to prevent it
I seem to remember you saying you were going to get one of those 50k Mac Pro's.

I can't justify the price of a Mac Pro now that I'm retired. Still have the 2019 Intel Mac Pro that is still beefy enough for my use today.

TBH, the M-Series Macbook Pro's are so performant nowadays, I can't see the need for getting a Mac Pro any more. For my purposes anyway. Not sure I can even justify a Mac Studio (beefier Mac Mini...)

I don't do much audio work any more, really. Coming out of retirement to work on a game with a friend in Sweden towards the end of the year, tho.

Yeah, I thought apple was really pushing it with that one!
