Antivirus software is needed for Windows users, where users have wide authority to open some suspicious executable files, but in any Linux OS there is division between user and super-user (root). Most of time you're user and you can not open any suspicious file, but if you want to open it, you enter super-user's password, become him and run any executable files under your responsibility. IMO, in Linux OS Antiviruses are needless since any file opens with awareness of user and nothing could be open without it. While in Windows OS Antivirus is a machine, in Linux OS it is a human. It means that the best Antivirus is human itself.

there was a time when someone actually created a linux virus, can't remember what was it about but yea someone actually did it successfully.
Not sure how he did it but probably activate it with the help of cron.

I do use both windows and linux so most of the time i use clamwin.

Kaspersky. I figure that most of the hackers are Russian, so they are probably pretty good at stopping those guys too. Also it’s the least bitchy AV software out there. Norton never shuts the fuck up.
im using kaspersky too, its work very good

I'm currently using Avira. It detect most viruses and malwares. And it does not use much resources. My rate is 9/10.

Should you really be using bitcoin if you need an antivirus?

I don't even REMEMBER the last time my PC was infected.

How do you guys even get viruses?  Do you just click EVERYTHING and anything on every website you come across?  Are you still using limewire for your porn?  Do you open every e-mail attachment that claims to be from your favorite exchange?

I just don't understand how anyone remotely computer literate can make an excuse as to how their machine ends up compromised/infected.  Hell, kids in my Computer Science classes were arguing over what the best anti-virus to use was.  ONE OF THEM SAID SYMANTEC.  I asked why they needed an AV and they said 'because torrents'  Shocked  They didn't even know what rootkits were...

...I don't even wanna get in to the whole data mining aspect of letting someone else look at scan every single piece of information on your PC.

Bottom line, don't use anti-virus programs.  Don't be an idiot.  Voila, virus-free  Smiley
