Things that damage the economy indirectly.

For example I feel that fast food and an unhealthy lifestyle leads chronic health problems that probably affects the economy not just monetarily.

Of course we can't just deny these people care, just promote a healthier lifestyle.

What are other things that we can change that will affect the economy in a positive way?

Economy means the financial health of a country so infrastructure and other means of businesses is not a damage to economy. Though it has a negative effect on the environment but not in the economic standard of the nation.

What we can change? As you stated, one reason is fast food, can you ban it? I doubt anyone is willing to do that. We are full of bad habits they may affect our life. Our country's economy is damaged when country don't have good doctors and you have to go in different country to cure disease, that's a huge cost and imagine on a lot of people, that affects economy seriously. Also the fact that we humans can't stand without war, damages economy too and in this proposal I mean that every country spends huge amount of money on military services. Why is that money spent? For what? We can live in piece and never own military which would save a lot of money but no, we can't.

Plans and ideas that are implemented by the governments can damage the economy. Some countries allows MNC to build their industries on their land which may looks like bring mployment to their citizen but deep down they are stealing all the natural resources and raw materials anf the export them into their own country its the modern day colonization.

I think as a while it is the mentality of the government towards their citizens at the same time what and how they treat them.

If they have a healthy relationship then for sure there is always a positive growth but to be honest in places which is plauged by discrimination at the same time war and things , people are not mentally healthy to be productive.

Economy is nothing but what each and every individual of a country achieving is summed up altogether.
For an economy of a country to fully grow, there must actually be some sort of unity amongstits citizens, because it is when there is unity that they can come together to work as team and sample out things that can be done to promote the economy of such country.

In a country where there is disunity, and all you see is fight, tribal difference and many more, there is no way such economy will grow. Another thing I also think kills economy is the taxes that government imposes on business men and industries, some of these charges scares people away from doing business that should have also grown the economy.

I think unemployment is one of the main things that needs to be tackled by any government and Bitcoin can help with that, because Bitcoin is bringing cheap international payments and lots of innovation to the financial industry.

If governments can allow Bitcoin as a legal tender or currency in their country and allow small businesses to accept Bitcoin as a payment option, then it will go a long way towards helping small businesses to reduce their transaction fees

Micro transactions are more common in small businesses and countries with high unemployment need informal businesses to increase, to help people to start their own businesses.  Wink

This is very sound in theory, but things are very different in practice. Fees are very high right now, so customers will have to know how to use Bitcoin and the Lightning Network. Businesses will surely save in fees, but they're effectively just passing them onto customers (they're going to need to open channels), which some may find unappealing. It's an effective way to attract crypto users though, so there's that. I don't see Bitcoin usage being able to help the economy (significantly, at least) right now, as it's more of a personal tool.

I think the most obvious one is the nationalization of the resources, I know it hasn't happened in a long time and most countries react capitalistically to the things they even own but if the country is controlled by a maniac then that country usually doesn't get too much investments and that Is why their economy usually goes down.

So, even though the president of a country doesn't do anything directly to damage the country right away, just doing something crazy to irrelevant thing may cause the investors to spook and withdraw their already existing investments and stops any new ones to get in as well which means that thing president did that was irrelevant actually damaged the country indirectly. You have to pick a person as president that is fair to everyone equally to make sure democracy and power checking exists that would make sure investors come to your country.

Social media and other addictive Internet sites - people are constantly glued to them, even on their work, which decreases their productivity. Social media also cause depression in many people, because they not only procrastinate, but also constantly compare their life to others, which leads to dissatisfaction. Also social media are good at spreading lies and fakes, which can have negative effects on the economy - anti-vax panic, anti-GMO, political manipulation and so on.

guilty as always. i have been using my facebook account in my phone just to check how bad the politics in our country. the fake news being told over and over, the constant battle of these fake news are consuming the hours i got in a day. i have been reading them all though i don't reply to them, it tell us how divided the country men when it comes to supporting the government. i guess the chinese are doing better after banning facebook.

I do think plastic is somehow make the economy really bad cause they affect the enviroment which will lead into health problem and with health problem there will be a high cost that will impact into their money. Its sounds crazy but believe me when there is no clear water to drink there will be imbalance in the economy.

Colonialism is a subtle way that destroys our economy. When people are in thinking that good quality products only come form USA, then we have a problem. They will start patronizing these products and eventually disregarding their local products. This affects the gross income of the country.

There are many things that cause damage to the economy of the country. we are not talking about how people eat and drink, which is an indispensable condition. But what is sabotaging both nature and people's money is garbage.
Currently there are too many people using plastic wrap and there is no sense in sorting garbage. That makes recycling more difficult for factories and more costly.
most of all, there are still a lot of people littering the sea and river, polluting the environment.
Our earth needs cleaner green to have a good foundation for better economic growth.

I don't want to blame a certain organization but the truth is mostly a country's downfall or why their economy is falling all points out to the mismanagement by their government. If we talking about Macroeconomics you know that the government is the one who controls the majority of it. If their literacy rate is low they can always have a solution for that, the same thing can be said for their unemployment and inflation all of those can be sold by their government.

Talking on social media vices, understandable they are not but that is not saying that there are no good side to social media that has also helped the economy and, it is also helping it. For example, information about government policies, employment chances are being disseminated through social media and handles so many times.

More too is that awareness of how to make money on the internet comes from social media most of the time. Like cryptocurrency trading, forex and commodities etc. Those can help individuals and cause a growth in the country's economy.

Not sure this is indirecly impact for damage of economy country or not but maybe building too many public infrastructure such as highway or hospital can be the cause of it and indeed the purpose are good to makes people easier and get best facilities but if the goverment take debts to builded it then the inflations in that country will increase and economy damage will be felt by their citizen too

I think that is the thought of young people. currently young people spend a lot of time on playing and enjoying new feelings. they often spend money to smoke marijuana, smoke, drink alcohol and do not want to strive to find a passion for themselves.
thought will be the thing that will kill a lot of talents in the world and it has a huge impact on the future economy and the following centuries.
education needs to be re-established in the future to find more talents.

Other than above posts said poor management from government can lead to huge fall of their economy in long run and we can see the proof from some countries like Somalia,Nigeria and many other African nations.
For these countries you mentioned, they are so much blessed, most especially Nigeria, but corruption has been the worst enemy for the growth of their economy, they have the potential and they have lots of natural resources for their economy to compete with the world’s best economy, but corruption from their leaders has really set them back.

There is absolutely corruption everywhere and no country is free from it, even the developed countries, but the rate in this areas are so much, the money they get that ought to be used for what will further promote the economy is being siphoned into their personal purse.

LOL, I don’t see this damaging the economy that much because when it comes to economy, we are simply measuring it in monetary value, this is indirectly talking about damaging the or cutting the lifespan of the country’s citizen short, because many of these factors you mentioned are dangerous to the health which could lead to increase mortality rate.

The only way I see it affecting economy is that it could cut the lifespan of a citizens who would have been useful in developing skills that will bring about the economy growth short, which is why government needs to cater for their citizens because without them, the country is nothing and without their hard work which should be done in healthy situation.

Sure enough, social media is able to change one's perspective only from a writing. There are so many countries in my news that hoaxes are scattered and this has an impact on all fields not only in the economy and severely able to trigger propaganda.

But not everything from social media can aggravate the economy, social media also has a positive side. As is now everywhere ubiquitous in technology, so the development of ecomerce is increasing and the number of online transactions also increases. Many mid-level businesses rely on social media as a medium for their sales or promotions.

Social media aren't fully negative, they also bring a lot of positives to the economy, maybe they are even a net gain, but it doesn't mean that their negatives should be overlooked - the goal of economy should be optimization - reducing the costs and maximizing gains.

Social media allow the information to spread faster, they create new jobs for hundreds of thousands of people, they provide better methods for advertisers to reach their target audiences. Social media are used to coordinate protests, and protests are vital for protecting freedom, and free societies are always more prosperous than dictatorships.

You can argue that the time not wasted going out to get food, or going out to buy something gives people more time and mental energy to use to better themselves. Of course how others have noted that depends on the person. Are they going to use that time to get on social media, or are they going to use it to study up on things that will benefit their life, health, etc.

This is exactly the kind of example that I was looking for. Things that affect the economy indirectly. That depression that many have due to social media, that leads to bad decisions, lack of productivity, mental health issues, more doctors, more money, and so on.
