Beside the greed to win more money from gambling, I guess another reason that caused many people to get themselves seriously addicted to gambling was to try and recover their losses when they goes on a long losing streak, maybe some gamblers do need to understand the fact that it is quite irrational to be chasing losses from gambling when they are mostly unable to calm down and play the games anymore.

Aside from being greedy, they have no other form of entertainment in them, they made gambling a way of life even if they have no money, they will ask money from someone just to satisfy their urge to play. I have seen families that we're broken because father or mother is so much engaged in gambling that they will spend the whole night gambling. They wake up in the morning start the day with gambling.

Besides greediness, they never satisfy and never accepted that they cannot make a big winning in the gambling games and they continue to play the games. They played in every day, hope that they can win much money from gambling and risk all of their money just to expecting that in the next round, they will have their luck and help them to win the games. Slowly, they will turn into an addicted to gambling without they realize and because of chasing the money, they will lose all of the money.

From reports I've seen addiction responce is remarkably similar across many types physical or virtual even addictions.  The body ultimately releases dopamine to reward certain behaviour, if someone has never had to do the hard things in life that didn't immediately give a reward like this they are probably more susceptible to addiction of any kind.   Drinking or anything can feel good if the brain recognises and reinforces the habit.  

Thats a large part of it, I tend to get tired of almost anything from eating chocolate to drinking to anything that at first felt good.   Not sure why exactly but its kinda a good thing compared to the opposite

Greediness is one of the reasons people become addicted to gambling. Many people have luck of a beginner in gambling and they think it will always be so and become addicted to it  as they cannot control their emotions.

Having life difficulties can be one of the factors that cause a person to become addicted. Gambling can be the main thing for him to change his life and unfortunately, he believes that, which will surely keep him away from reality. He can be very lazy in other things and in the end he can do bad things just to fulfill his dream. People tend to look for instant ways to get happiness rather than working hard. Btw, there are still many factors that can make a person to be addicted and it isn't merely because of life difficulties.

This is really difficult question, and I do not think you will get a good answer if you do not listen to two sets of people:
1. People who have suffered from a serious gambling addiction and recovered (so they have some insight into their problem)
2. Psychologists who have researched and/or treated people with serious gambling addiction

For most of us, who are not these people above, it is just guessing.
But... if I am allowed to guess on this thread (and I think that I am ) then I guess that it is a mixture of two things:
(i) being psychologically more likely to develop addictive behaviour
(ii) having difficulties in your life (economy, family, work issues, etc) that trigger this behaviour

One thing I know - it is a terrible and destructive thing to see happening to a person.

I seem people allow greed to get better of themselves and in the process wreck themselves and hurt the people around them

It can happen for people who don't have any other activity, and once he visits on the online gambling and starts playing, he can get attracted deeply to gambling games. I see this is happening in many people and some of my friends slowly getting addicted but fortunately, me and the other friends asking him to join with us and we never let him get alone every day. But we never know what their reason for being alone and stay away from the other people if we don't ask them about their problem.

But most of the time gamblers only lose money so I don't think it is easy money at all. You bet, you lose, you play again to get back what you loss, yet you still loss, then play again and etc. I mean, playing and playing all over again hoping to retrieve the loss money is wasting money at all. Gamblers get addicted because of greed, playing may be fun and exciting but when you start losing money, it ain't no fun at all. Don't get addicted, control yourself and most importantly, don't ever think that gambling is a good source of money. It is a game that is so risky.

Maybe their lonliness causing someone to get addicted seriously when they are into the gambling addiction for early stages.And also the greediness for money in the gambling causes many people make addicted to gambling.

That's why they say life is a gamble. Every choice we make makes us either choose a good opportunity or lose an opportunity. In terms of real gambling, people get addicted to it because it's an easy way to earn money. However, people cannot notice that, if you some up your losses over your winning everyday, most people lose a lot of money because of it.

Well, who doesn't want easy money . If they will give you way to have easy money, will you refuse it?

These is the main problem why gamblers are getting addicted into gambling. They see gambling as a quick rich scheme which is wrong. Maybe a quick rich if you are very lucky enough to win consecutive times. Gamblers are getting addicted too because they are losing their money and they want to retrieve it. They can't afford what they lost.

How we may say that is not an addiction ? Is this statement is not contradicting with what most gamblers here stating ?
I mean most gamblers are sharing that gambling is giving them ONLY losses. If that is true then continuing with gambling for entire life must have a reason which might be addiction.

Engaging with lottery is a clear-cut indication of addiction. See, buying lottery in seconds and then waiting for the result is justifying that you are enjoying your way of gambling ? They might have started for chasing down their early losses and spending same amount or limited amount will not indicate that they are not addicted.

Probably you have mistaken that addiction as a negative one. A teacher who is engaging himself for various education related activities also gets addicted with his activities. I have seen many teachers who are unable to stay at home after retirement.

Now, go back to your statements. Doing something for entire life must have some reason beyond why that is existing. There are CLEVER drunk-addicts like they do drink very small amount for every day but they never lose their conscious also they are able to hide this activity from family members. Could we call them non-addict ?

Trying out lottery tickets must be a pure way of gambling. Because, it is being practiced only for the reason of winning some big money. When keep trying it, a gambler will always get greedy but due to available resources they may limit themselves for weekly once or any like that that. We may term them "CLEVER" gambling addicts.

How many people buy weekly lottery tickets? Would you say that they're addicted to gambling? Even if they spend the same amount of money every week and it does not cause them harm in any way?

It's almost impossible to make these kinds of generalized statements, you'll always have people that have a completely different reaction to long-term exposure.

Right.It's the big amount of money that always make the people developed interest on it.Because they believe that through gambling,they can have an instant money but of course,they can lose them in an instant too.So it's always been the greed of people that always lead them to their worst situation.Gambling is not that bad but if you don't have self-control,then it will really ruin your life in the long run.

You are confusing gambling with risk, everything that you do in your life has a risk but you do those activities anyway because you see that you get a good return on your investment, just to give you an example driving a car is an activity that has many risks including suffering an accident that could give you severe injuries but people decide to engage in that activity every day because they see that the benefits that they get out of driving are bigger than the small risk of suffering severe injuries.

Besides you can reduce the risk of suffering such injuries if you drive in a very safe way, when it comes to gambling you cannot do anything like that, if you choose to gamble you cannot change the probabilities that you are going to lose in the game because the odds are established by the casino.

Yes, there could be thousands of reason for getting addicted to gambling but if we go for depth analysis, we can find out that sticking with gambling continuously is the only reason for intensively getting addicted. There could be different reasons for every gambler for sticking with gambling but all the reasons will definitely lead to getting addicted finally. Even people who are realizing what they are doing, getting addicted over time as they are engaging themselves into gambling continuously.

Mostly gamblers are searching for some reason to stick within gambling. This is kind of justifying their actions but they are ruining their health and wealth once they get addicted. Anything will cause addictions hence the reason is not important but not staying with gambling for more times, is the only solution to avoid getting addicted with gambling.

Instant money is the biggest lure for people due to which everyone tries their luck in gambling.
