Well, there are so many options for you in this market. Personally the coin I'll be thinking about much next year will be Ethereum. Ripple haf its year throughout this year and it's still at where it is. Ethereum is seeking to retake its second position and with their updates coming this January, I think we should prepare for something big. What i make with 5000 Dollar.

I think this question is really stupid. Just open coinmarketcap and check to 20 projects and invest in such which you really like. Maybe you will choose Ethereum or Stellar, these projects are strong and have ambitions.
If I had 5000 dollar, I don't invest to anything and I just wait if btc can't pass to 4500, otherwise I wait new dumps and when it drops to 2500 dollar, I buy 2 tc with money and don't buy or sell it again, I just wait for new ath which will come in 1-2 year.

actually with a capital of $ 5,000 you can get something bigger than having to be at risk with crypto. Because the times like now the market will be difficult to rise, but you can try to get some altcoins, try using $ 500 then choose 5-15 altcoins, try to find those that have large volumes, because the majority can be a pretty good reference going forward
Before investing spend some time to understand what crypto is about . You are the only one responsible for your funds and it is your decision in which coins you invest, if any.
Don't advice financial, but for me, I will buy Bitcoin only in bear market now (let's do your own search to find the good point to buy). Let's see the market, almost altcoins dump or pump following bitcoin, so it is my choosing.
Before asking this question here, you should do some homework and decide and then you can ask the community to help you to choose the best. Anyway, I wanna suggest what I have done earlier. I have invested hugely when it was $0.30 thinking that it will be no more dip. Later, I found it crashed to $0.10 and I have bought 2x this time. Now, it's having some gain. It's being traded at $0.20 now. The ATH is $19. I think in the bullrun, 10x or even 100x is possible.
Just learn it from the legit source. Personally I prefer local project because I can follow their workshop so we can focus on their roadmap.

I think that you do not need to invest your money in a bear market right now because nothing good will come of it and you just lose money
if you have 5000 dollars, it's better to choose coins that are already in the top 10 on the market, because it's more profitable than new coins, because investing 5000 dollars is already big.
It depends on whether 5000 is play money for you or your life savings.
If the former - learn TA and start daytrading (in case you have the time) or buy some altcoins that are about to receive good news (ETH fork, Chainlink mainnet, a couple of other mainnets)..
If the latter - don't pour all into crypto and do tons of research, only invest sporadically when you really believe in a price movement.

I would still categorically refused to sell today if it were not for the New Year, of course, because it is this event that today forces me to withdraw my resources, but of course not everything. In any case, keep to the last.
What can i advise you to do is to buy btc now as there are a lot of things that will happen in 2019 for btc though of course it might be good or bad but the thing is btc is surely undervalued right now and if, just if in 2019 all those controversy that surrounds btc will fade then it's time for it to get up again.
