As long as you already have enough fund to invest in ICO or buy some cheaper coin we can still able to earned returned of profit ,we need to have knowledge also in order to determine where it is the most secured one .Choose with those potential one to immediately, earning and growing money.

do not waste your capital even if your capital is very little if you will invest it in ICO, because the level of risk is too big, especially if you still do not know much ICO, because now many ICO scammer.
you better invest your money on Altcoin and wait until the price is high if you want to sell it later so you can get profit.

choose according to your choice and as per your knowledge because everyone has his own way of thinking. My opinion is donot invest in a single coin make diversify investment , it will help you in future when you will see price of some coin that you invest is going down,at the same time other coins would be on higher side that give you courage that you are not in loss and you can hold with kalm and relax.The reason for this is crypto market is very uncertain like other market and there is lot of ups and down, so to keep you in safer side, do diversify investment.

I am better using that money buying altcoin rather than invest on ICOs. Market condition right now is not good to join in ICOs, and I am better buying altcoin in market because many altcoin have lower price than ICO price. Its good oppotunity to make big profits in the future
The risk of investing in ICO is too high. I think the probability of investing in it is very small, so I suggest you invest in the top ten cryptocurrencies. Now that the market is at a low point, it's a good time to invest in them, and they will have a big Rising space.

The risk on ICO investment is high and I won't advise you to start your crypto investment with ICO because its high risk. I will advise you to check out good altcoins and invest in them for long term.
500$ isn't a big amount to invest in cryptocurrencies, but as it is your budget you can diversify your investments to minimize the risks and making the biggest profits.
It is better to buy the most promising coins like Bitcoin and Ethereum, and investing in the most valuable ICO projects.

Oh, my normal advice would be to go for three classics and one "maybe". Classics such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, Ripple, NEO and a maybe such as Ziliqa or any ICO of your choice.
maybe my advice is go with invest in altcoin while the price is still in the lower price and buy the ICO later after the tokens are got list on the market because usually, in this situations, after the ICO is release on the market, the price can get dropped too far so that is your good time to buy the tokens and you can get much of amount of the tokens. and after that, you only need to wait for the price to increase back. it's no problem if you only have small balance because as long as you keep trying to buy and sell, I am sure that you can increase your balance.
Now I would buy such coins as Cardano, NEO, Ripple, IOTA, EOS. And 10% of BTC and ETH. They fell well and have growth prospects.

well but you also can go 5x down after the ICO, which has been the case with most of the ICOs recently. It doesn't mean that we shouldn't support the new projects anyway

I think your capital is not that small. You can invest in at least two low-cost altcoins. I would personally choose EOS, Stellar or Cardano for this purpose.
I think it is better if you'll invest it in altcoins than ICO especially now that you are a beginner. ICOs are very good but in my opinion it is too risky because first of all it is not yet listed on exchanges unlike Altcoins.
For you, it will probably be better to invest in new projects with low capitalization.So you will have a good chance to catch a lot of growth and raise your deposit
I would recommend you to check out an interesting project with a lot of potentials. Recently I was also looking for potential investments and I came across this project named "Socratus", their team is planning to build an insurance ecosystem which provides a digital platform for insurance companies.
