Its never too late buying bitcoin. I suggests to buy a bitcoin because bitcoin is still the best and high value cryptocurrency. The bitcoin price has increased by more than 10 percent over the past 48 hours,as the majority of cryptocurrencies in the global market have recovered from the recent correction or you you just buy bitcoin cash (BCH).
Probably one that you believe in, and have done research about.

The first 10-15 cryptocurrency which are listed on Coinmarketcap are always great to invest and it is legit. Still, i suggest to look at the project, whitepaper and roadmap before investing on any cryptocurrency.
Right now most of the market is gaining value, so this seems like the perfect opportunity to invest some money in a project that is promising, now the coins are the top are the best coins but are not the ones that give the best profits, so we need to reach a balance, we need to invest in safe coins but we also need to take some risks and invest in less well known coins. 
If you are new learn how yo use wallet properly and learn how to keep your wallet secure then but bitcoin and ethereum then you can learn about ico or another alt coin. You can check the market at coinmarketcap.com and learn the history of each coin and market history.

i think the best cryptocurrency that is worthy to buy now is IOTA and and ethereum, these coins have risen so fast in the last few months of 2017, more investors have reallized the potential of these coins from bitcoin's slow transactions, since that ethereum is more popular than ever and IOTA has become the centralized coin worthy to invest.
I'm quite agree with you that Eth can be a good choice for you to invest and get high profit.And IOTA is one of the greatest altcoin for now, it has changed the blockchain technology which is much more advanced.
Take a look on Ethereum Classic (has a big potential, possible listing on coinbase + hardfork planned on the beginning of march) and Stratis (First stratis ICO "Gluon" is coming).
and now ethereum classic is increased although the increase is not too high, I am sure that we can make a profit from this. and I guess ethereum classic will make a new highest price and maybe it will follow with the ethereum. and I see Stratis will make a new highest price too but we cannot see this if bitcoin price is a rally to make a new price.

Sirin Labs Token (SRN) in a big rise. It is not too late to invest. As well as the other coins in Idex and idex membership token have come at very good prices to invest too

I think that EOS might be strong good choice. It started to climb up a bit, it still needs very long time but potential feels too high. Also price is quite cheap, in reachable range in my humble opinion.
I think Vechain is still a good choice in the cheap altcoins. Vechain has been rated as very potential in the future by investors. Their team and community use Vechain's technology to bring in very good. Their technology is top rated. We should rely on that to evaluate and invest in any altcoin. That is my experience of the crypto market. 
I think that EOS might be strong good choice. It started to climb up a bit, it still needs very long time but potential feels too high. Also price is quite cheap, in reachable range in my humble opinion.
I think NIO is a solid choice. It will be listed on Bitshares DEX very soon and should see a price increase because of that.

From my experience i can say that, Eth is the best coin o buy at the moment. Because eth is increasing slowly but it's future is very good i think. I also think it will touch the new record in the last of 2018

For now Bitcoin and Ethereum is the best to buy today.. Its dumping today pumping in a higher value later on.. In other say Buy what you can afford to lose..
Today is good decision to buy Odyssey I think. This coin looks like Tron - I mean that is more about hype than fundamental project. Price too low now, coin will be pumped.
I would choose only bitcoin for the beginning. And according to trend of bitcoin price during this week i would decide to buy some altcoins or not. because altcoins will follow bitcoin for sure.
