I don't see anything new happening outside the box of what we have been seeing. For now, bitcoin is still the king and it will remain so for more years to come.

In the market, many good projects even good compare to BTC and ETH. Like BTC vs BCh and ETH vs EOS. In terms of each technology and broad use tuff competition. But BTC and ETH winning with their past performance. Like most of the people have faith in BTC and ETH more already good market cap and price stand. Great community with a good developer team. So, It's a really hard one coin beat another one that much easier.

I don't think any new king will come in the crypto world ever. It is not possible to overcome the bitcoin. But I wish a new coin can be the third after BTC, ETH. EOS have the great chance to be third, Though at this moment Ripple is in the third place according to the coinmarketcap, but I wish EOS will overcome Ripple one day.

I don't think that will happen, Bitcoin has always been in the top position, from the beginning until today. At present, there are no coins that have the capacity to defeat bitcoin. BTC and ETH have a lot of potential and have good technology to grow. These two coins match in the top position.

It will remain the strong holder of currency which are the two top highest value. No one replace them it has a big chance if that is happened. Let us support this two kinds of coins they gives us profit and fulfill our goals.
The king imho will always remain the BTC, but if you are talking about a big project with a big potential for the future, I think that EOS can explode in the 3 coming years. but be sure nothing can replace bitcoin.
