I think there is no coin better than btc. But now coin number 2 after btc is eth. This is a very good and promising coin.
Better bitcoin altcoin is because it has better technology. eg Ethereum, this is altcoin ranked second in the market just after Bitcoin. But Ethereum has more advantages over Bitcoin, which has faster transaction processing, lower transaction costs. Ethereum is also very popular because it is the basis of many ICO projects. I think in the future if Bitcoin does not grow, it will definitely have an Altcoin beat Bitcoin. So now, if we want to make a profit then we should invest in a potential altcoin. I will invest long term in Ethereum.
I don't think any altcoin is better than bitcoin. Not even now. The coins we may be looking up to as the ones challenging Bitcoin's hegemonic influence include ETH, Neo, Ltc, Monero and so others. All of these are nothing compare to the tentacles Bitcoin have spread over regions. Its actually out of the league of every other coins.

For me personally, the most reliable coins are bitcoin and Ethereum, on the other altcoins you can speculate for a short time
