I think this comes from what kind of sports you are around when growing up. Football and basketball are two sports that are the most common and where being played the most during high school. I even played them myself in a team for a few years. And went regularly to the stadium with my dad and uncle to watch our home team play. So in university whenever my country was playing in a big tournament everybody would bet on the matches. I kind of grew into sports betting and never really considered to bet on sports that I have no clue about. For me sports betting is a way to try and make better predictions than the majority. If I have no clue about the sport I have to rely on the odds from the bookmakers. But when I am familiar with the sport I can try and take advantage of cheap bets.

There's no better reason reason than this. Maybe we could add time constraint to the decision making. Many of us have other more important things to do and only spend an hour to gamble. It's better to use that to pick what you already know rather than exploring other sports using that limited time.

This is true but that doesn't mean you just have to pick a side that has a lower chance of winning. It all depends on the risk you are willing to take. Sometimes I also bet on the underdog because I believe he has the capability to win and that's completely different from betting on the underdog just because he could get lucky.

In my opinion, the reasons for betting on a particular sport, I think everyone has the same reasons, users do that, we have different hobbies in each type of sport, such as we like boxing, football, basketball and so on, but users who have these hobbies don't necessarily like sports like volleyball, tennis and so on.

We are aware, someone bets / gambles on certain types of sports based on their experience and level of understanding of these sports, why are we wasting money or betting on sports that we never understand at all, gambling and betting on sports that you are good at and understand are better.

I think it depends on each person choice, there's someone who love football, there's someone who love basketball, and other sports, but soccer are very popular and big for every country in the world. They're already follow their own team when he was a kid, so they will stick with that's sport and will not looking to the other sports because it's small and their friends don't really love with that sport. Busy and limited time are also few reasons why they will not look into other sports.

If it was in relation to betting, then no, I don't really prefer one over the other. They're all basically the same game of chances and judgment anyway. If it was regardless of that, then it's because I enjoy the sports itself. Sports gambling in general is kind of like a side bonus for me really, I just really enjoy watching the sports (eSports to be specific) itself plus the way some commentators do their work which makes watching the game more enjoyable. I've also invested a considerable amount of time listening to the stories for each tournament, what each team went through, and the matches that they experienced, they all just combine and make up what I enjoy about watching and betting on.

Because you know the sport and you find the sport interesting, basketball, UFC and Boxing are three of the sports that are very popular here n our country so its easy for me to bet on these kind of sports because I can easily relate

That's not true upsets rarely happen, and the competing team can only become 50/50 when both teams are strong, people bet on sports where they can analyze competing players or teams and they have a chance to win, sports betting is gambling but compared to luck based games our chances here depends on how you analyze the games and you can only analyze the if you have a genuine interest on the sports.

It looks like your question has been answered by yourself.
when someone bets only on some sports bets not on all types of sports bets the reason is they only know and have a lot of knowledge in that sport. if, for example, we often bet on the Premier League, of course we already know all the English league teams and of course we know the specifications of the entire league. and if that person insists on betting on other sports betting for example in the NBA, he has no experience and knowledge of NBA matches and it is impossible for people to bet without predictive analysis that they already know.

Because the more you are familiar with the sports league you are watching the bigger the chance you can win on your bet placed on the team you like. Familiarization on the league is important especially if you watch the games everyday because you would provably know which team got the advantage to win on that particular game. Unlike other sports you didn't follow where the chances to win is so slim that's why majority pick those sports which caught more their interest.

People bets om sports they are well informed about, many people are football fans on here and they are always staying updated about the performance of every iconic footballer, imagine such person now going for Rugby betting? They will lose all their money because they have no idea what they are betting on.

Bet on something you have past experience about or more knowledge of, this will give you a better pace for positive results instead of blindly betting on something you know nothing about.

It's not actually 50/50 if you know the team it is just the percentage is much higher than the usual, well of course there are underdogs who are making their way and of course there are teams that will beat the existing one some times it is the new generation but just like what I have said the chance of winning in certain sports where you have expertise is higher than placing bet in gambling site that you are not familiar with.

Of course there is something about it. Here's a simple explanation. I am good with basketball since I grow up watching it rather than the football or soccer, I know every team, their skills and abilities and I know the other team as well, with my knowledge on both team and familiarity on both I could easily decide or predict what could be the outcome rather than placing bet on the soccer which I don't have any idea who are the players and the capability of the team vs the other team. See that?

Let me throw my two cents - I think chances of underdog wins in combat sports are greater compared to team play. For underdog to win, just one person needs to fail. For underdog team to win, a whole opponent team must suck.

You have mentioned Jon Jones and Mayweather - those two are unique, but even they have controversial wins in their careers. Also, one of the reason of their undefeated careers are their managers. Not saying that they had easy opponents in their whole careers, but some of them surely were cherry picked. If you google MMA (or better UFC, as it will be easier to find) upsets of 2022, you would see that nearly every third undefeated/champion/huge favourite lost to a huge underdog. Specially in women UFC/MMA. There were cases when a champ losses to an underdog with +8 odd. Can you imagine Arsenal loosing to your local school football team? No, but in MMA such things can happen.

That is why I bet on UFC. I think I am good at making predictions (at least arguments are strong Cheesy

) and there is a high chance that a unrealistic bet could win.

It's true, but I guess the chances of you winning is huge as compare to luck based games like slots and others. And if by chance that the outcome didn't favor you because the under wins, then there's nothing you can do about it.

Even at 1.01 you are not sure that you are going to win, but there are bettors willing to put huge money, millions but we have one thread that even at that odds he didn't win. And it's more entertaining to bet on games, and you are in the edge of the sit praying that you are going to win your bets.

I think its crystal clear people can watch many different sports but master their knowledge on only one of them. Its definitely better to follow one specific sport to bet on cause it's also easy to follow injured players and other types of issues with managers etc. I was thinking about football while writing this post. I think betting should not be seen as luck based gambling option. If you know teams/players better, your chance of winning increases a lot. You can hit greater odds with secret knowledges.

We know more about the team or the players, meaning if we are basketball fans, we know that this team has an edge in this game. Let's say that the star player on other teams is injured, so the other team has an edge. I only bet on football, because I only know about football. You don't expect me to start betting on sports I know nothing about, am just wasting my money because am just betting blindly, but when am betting on football, I always do my analysis first before placing my bet because I know about the sport. But let's assume am betting on sport that I know nothing about, how will I be able to do my analysis before betting, or i will just go and guess.

I think the answer is simple - person is familiar with that specific sport, know game rules and is more or less familiar with teams or players that compete. For example I am familiar with football, place bets in football. I am a complete zero in cricket for example, and I will never place a bet on a cricket get, even if the casino offers me bonuses and and free bets. Even if I would be in a company where someone is a professional cricket bettor, I would still not place a bet on that. That is not mine.
