Ofcourse bitcoin is more popular other crypto currency that is why many people are more attracted on it. Compare to other coins, it is also more stable and lastly it has the highest value.

Bitcoin attracts people simply because of the greater security and trust that it garners. Being the first, most secure and stable coin, BTC is the best in terms of the capacity to be used as a currency, as well as, an investment. The market cap and the volume of transaction of BTC is very high. Further, the investment gains are far superior and assured. The other coins in an indirect way seem to trend a dependence on BTC.

The Altcoins are also good, far more economical and good for those who wish to invest and transact a smaller volume and value of money. However, the amount of quick profits that you can make is easier with Altcoins. And it is certainly the best for trading. Altcoins are way too many now and hence the there is always a distrust in peoples minds that one coin can topple the other or that a coin may become insignificant. Such an investment will naturally lead to total loss.

It is simply this sense of security and safety that makes BTC sought after. After all it is like trusting a known person to that of a stranger. However, in the present times Ethereum, Ripple, Neo, Nem and few others are doing extremely well. While alternative currencies can gain more hash rate, especially if effective forms of merged mining are developed and adopted, it remains to be seen if they gain the same adoption.

I agree that the main reason of Bitcoin's popularity is marketing and media attention, but I don't agree that altcoins are mostly terrible, there are far better coins solutions and coins with more advanced technology then Bitcoin.

I guess being the first cryptocurrency is one of the reason why people are more involve here than any other. It already prove us how big is its potential. And people tend to trust those things which are already proven and tested. Also, social media have a great influence people. Bitcoin is more publicized. Thus, people get to know more what bitcoin is. It is also the most expensive. Furthermore, it is convenient to use. Can be used at many things.

This is one of the many reasons why people are really investing into bitcoin because they are unaware of rest of the potential coins. What I believe is that those who even know about them are not ready to invest into them because everyone wants quick returns and that too in large amounts.
