Your explanation is quite simple and yet it is correct, the price of ethereum depends almost exclusively in the demand from it from investors in icos and since that has gone down significantly then the price of ethereum goes down as well and when you add that many of those people are also cashing out then the amount of ethereum in the market is many times bigger than what the market can absorb.
