Well there's no differentiate between male or female when it's about gambling, either male or female can get addicted same like they have lust. The child isn't used as collateral, but she just abandon him and that's make the casino think she will return to pick up her child. But actually the woman didn't return and she seems okay to let her child to be with the casino. It's a bad parenting from the woman, I feel bad for her child since he might have a tough life considering his mother can't control herself.

reading the article, what i realized was that the residents of the area said that the woman abandoned her son at the lottery store after she had a lot of losses, honestly i don't see how anyone could have a lot of losses in a lottery store and still like the channel Did you come to the conclusion that she gave the boy as collateral? What would the lottery shop win by taking the boy as collateral? this doesn't make any sense, because people took the boy to the police so easily the police could go to the lottery shop and see if it was true that the mother gave the child as collateral, but all I read in the article was that the police were still investigating and couldn't get useful information from the boy because he doesn't speak well, so I think you can't judge the mother without knowing what really happened and the news channel is accusing the mother without proof, that's slander and defamation, something that in every corner of the world is a crime
belive it or not it is possible to lose a lot of money if the lottery shop has a quick draw lottery on their shop. I've seen people in my country spend hours gambling playing quick draw lottery. as for the mother leaving her child as collateral and the lottery accepting it(at least according to the article), an investigation should be done about it.

I don't know how a casino accepted a child as a collateral for the losses made in the casino, if it's a regulated casino then they couldn't do that if I am not wrong and the girl also has severe addiction which made the girl to do anything for the urge of betting. One who doesn't have money shouldn't be allowed to gamble at all and ofcourse these kind of rare incidents will not happen everyday.
Based on the article, it's not yet confirmed that it's an actual collateral. It's like the bystanders were the ones to tell that to the reporter and police that the mother has left and likely made her son as a colletaral.

But the article says that, the mother just leave and left her son and it's just a rumor that the kid was a collateral. The policemen are still looking for some information about the woman and they're having hard time on gathering that because the kid can't talk.

My take on this is that the girl can't just accept the fact that she lost a lot and out of mind to leave her child.

You got a point there. Why would a casino accept a kid as collateral. That's a crime for both the casino and the parent.

A good mother don't normally leave a kid behind. So there must be something that pushes this woman.  Strange but it could be that the kid is not hers.
Also, a 4yr old kid but can't talk, its either the mother is really this crazy that she forgot to teach the kid?

People who are addicted to gambling have done crazy things as a result of their addiction. Nonetheless, I never imagined reading a story as unbelievable as this. It is the story of a woman who abandons her 4-year-old child after using him as collateral and sustaining huge losses. Firstly, I am shocked because it is the male gender who have been known to go to any lengths to satisfy their gambling addiction.  In addition, I wonder what would have moved the woman in this case to do this kind of thing. My assessment is that this is simply a case of irresponsible parenting and problem gambling. How do you think about this?

It's very traumatic for the child that he was abandoned at that age, the mother and those who connive to use the child as collateral should be charged in court, there are two cases for this, child abandonment and human trafficking these are two crimes if it's committed in our country, I don't know the law in Nigeria that governed this, but both parties have liability on this, it's not only gambling addiction that should be sure but the state of mind of the mother should be asses is she is capable of taking care of her children.

This is really heartbreaking and considered child abuse in our country. I can't believe that there are parents who can risk the lives of children just to fill and satisfy their urge to gamble. That person for sure is also irresponsible in all aspects of her life knowing that she's even willing to leave her child for her own selfish desire. I feel sorry for the young innocent child and he doesn't deserve to be treated that way. I hope that the mother would still be able to realize that it was a huge mistake and won't affect the child in the long run.

This is ridiculous and the worst news I have ever read in the world of gambling, I think this woman is really crazy, her senses don't work anymore, I hope that the Ogui Police will take strong action against the woman and also the Gambling Shop which has accepted minors as collateral, The Gambling Shop should not take children's guarantees if the user loses a gambling bet.

I'm very sorry to see cases like that, innocent children are made victims of the greed of irresponsible people, whether it's their mothers or caregivers, which are clearly inhumane acts committed by these women.

Addiction of any kind knows no gender. The only thing that's keeping other women away from gambling is the fact that the community will have her portrayed with bad image. Society kinda accepts and considered normal when a man do the vices, including gambling.
In this case, I could only think that this is indeed bad parenting and gambling addiction. She losses her mind the moment she lost everything including the money she borrowed. She managed to grow the kid up 4 years old, until she's devoured with the gambling dark side.

A woman has reportedly abandoned her 4-year-old son in a lottery shop in Enugu after incurring huge losses in gambling. The incident Sahara Reporters gathered happened at Moore House Street, Ogui in the state capital on Thursday. Residents of the area said the woman left her son in the Lotto shop after she incurred a huge loss she couldn’t offset. The little boy was later taken to Ogui police station when the wait for his mother was becoming endless. A police officer who confirmed the incident to SaharaReporters on Friday narrated how a little child was brought to the station by some persons who claimed his mother used him as collateral to play lotto.

This is a very sad story and most cases of female addicts are beyond common sense, such as the case of a female addict who went to a casino and left her child in a locked car and died.
In cases like this, the security forces must act decisively to provide a deterrent effect so that similar cases do not happen again. Children are a gift from God that must be taken care of and raised properly, not to be involved or sacrificed only for the interests or satisfaction of parents and children who are victims. And I am very emotional to hear it because they seem to have no affection and love for their child.

What kind of person would offer her/his son as collateral, I cannot believe it. I also can't believe if they agreed someone who is using 4 year old child as their opponent's (etc) collateral. This type of people are irresponsible in whole their life and maybe this is the best for kid as government may take care of him even better than his mother. I wish son's future life will be better. I think gambling should be fun part of life, not something that messes people's lives.

Yes, it happens because she is already addicted in the game or maybe she has no choice maybe there is someone who threatens her life but then it is very  unacceptable to do that thing, I really hope the child will be taken good care of the govt and should have a good life with other family that will give the child value and will treat his/her as a human not a thing to be a collateral.

I wonder what her intention was, maybe that the child should be held by the gambling shop to repay the equivalent of the money lost in labor.

If I'm to preempt the mind of the woman, she probably would be thinking it is just for a while that the child would be let free by either someone around to bring him back for her while she makes promise to pay the debt gradually. She could be shy and thinking the operator of the lotto stand won't take it lightly with her and so she has to act that way. I don't think she genuinely wanted to use the son for collateral, not that. This news I think from the link happened in enugu, Nigeria and Nigerian woman in her right senses won't use a baby for lotto collateral or the news fact is not properly disseminated, maybe the woman had a friend or someone close there that could bring the baby back to her before negotiation for payment would begin. So I don't believe the news of using the son for collateral on lotto gambling.

Despite this is an act uncalled for and is totally forbidden to be expected from a serious and right sence thinking wife and a mother, a woman should not go too low and bazzark by forgetting the day of her labour in giving birth to the child while through her selfish desires for gambling to now abandoned her own child because of losses in gambling, infact she should be arraigned to face the court of law, am very sure she's the type that has been under divorce from her husband else the husband will give her the very best beating of her life that night.

It's not stated in the news, but I'm curious, was the mother able to play because she offered her child as a collateral? Because if the gambling shop didn't accept her offer then she should've brought her son along with her when she returned home. But why is the child left at the shop? Was the offer accepted and then she went on gambling and lost that's why she had to leave her son? Either way, this child shouldn't be returned to her anymore.

Holy f I never heard of such thing before. This very woman for me should be condemned to the maximum punishment so she should be sentenced to life sentence in jail.It is great that the police station took the child and it is great that the gambling shop were responsible enough to bring the child back.Imagine if they were not at all responsible that could have led to major bad consequences and that is why I say that the woman who committed this act should suffer the maximum punishment and the child to be given to custody or to his father if he has the father.

This is the worst decision made by certain people, I think that person needs help because gambling eat his nerves already and hopefully local authorities will get alerted for what their local do because making your child as a collateral so that he can continue his activities is total sick. For other gamblers who's not into addiction stage maybe they should look at this scenario so that they will not create any miserable decisions in life.

Now the question is..... Why did they allow her to enter the casino/gambling shop with her child? In our casinos ...nobody under the age of 18 are allowed to enter a place of gambling. (Not even as a spectator)  Roll Eyes

The casino should have called the authorities while she was there and arrested her and then the child should have been placed in a place of safety or with a family member.

We live in a strange world, where people are doing very crazy things.  Angry

It just demonstrates how gambing is an extremely dangerous addiction for some people!
This type of situation is worrying and delicate, and this woman needs to be punished for it and also undergo some kind of treatment, because this type of attitude is not normal.
If you read the news, the police and the journalist have not yet known what actually happened, if this is truly totally related to gambling or not.

Also it can remain the fact that only the woman can be able to answer the question.

That is Nigeria, people are frustrated in Nigeria with increasing poverty and low standard of living. We do not know what that woman is going through that led to that. People in a developed country may see it as another thing, but it may be lack of money and poverty that caused it. It is good to have money, but Nigeria is just one of the worst country that people are living below the poverty line.

What kind of mother is she and what kind of casino that accept a kid as collateral?
Maybe someone borrowed her money in agreement that if she did not pay back, he will collect his child.

What kind of mother is she and what kind of casino that accept a kid as collateral? I cant get what is happening with these people both the women and the owner of the lottery shop, how can they make the deal? I would say both parties are the dumbest people in the world or at least in the gambling history. Lesson learned for all of us that we should always gambling responsibly to avoid something that we cant handle ourselves. I hope the boy will be OK and once he is mature enough to know about this fact, he will forgive what his mother did to him.
