This is extreme addiction that leads to an unhealthy mind. I think the mother wants to abandon her child as she might not be able to take good care on him anymore, this is my take in this issue. If the child was taken as a collateral, how come he's still out there waiting for the mother? Or, the other party doesn't want this collateral at all, it's totally inhumane, it's too much. If the woman didn't had the money to gamble, then from my point of view the fault was from the casino for letting her play.
And leave a child as collateral is a really cruel move, the place shouldn't allow her to do that. All was wrong in this history.

It is the story of a woman who abandons her 4-year-old child after using him as collateral and sustaining huge losses. When you read something like this, it will trigger a big alarm on the kind of addiction some people have developed because of gambling addiction, some people will do everything and sacrifice even their loves, I've read about abandonment because of hunger but not addiction to gambling, she is not in the right and there should be government intervention, gambling addiction can get you out of your mind and the government should address this issue, it may not be an isolated issue and there will be more if they cannot address people from getting addicted to gambling.

This story, apart from being sad, is pathetic. In the old days when only men gambled, there were those who gambled with their wives, but nowadays things have changed and just as women participate more in society and daily life, they are also acquiring more vices, such as smoking, gambling or watching pornography.

Just really hard to hear this kind of stories, we are all gamblers here, but for sure we are not going to involved our selves in this kind of situation.
This is so tragic, and I do agree that this is the worst kind of parents that you can find. How can he do that and put his child as a collateral. And the people that also accepts the child, there are very much as guilty as the parents is. Regardless of gender though, both of them can be irresponsible as this one.

I don't know but with how people are thinking right now and how gambling can affect a gambler's mind, I'm not surprised that it comes to a point that this scenario will happen.
I mean I also saw a news (can't remember where though) and it's the same situation as what the OP has posted. The only difference is the end result because the gambler got the child fortunately while the one that the OP posted doesn't.
We only feel sadness regarding this one and the gambler who abandoned her child really is out of her mind. This is the height of it, making the innocent child suffer for her own irresponsibility. The child should be taking into government care and such a mother if found should be arrested and taking to rehabilitation. I wonder what her intention was, maybe that the child should be held by the gambling shop to repay the equivalent of the money lost in labor.This is just not irresponsible parenting but this is the main reason on why she should not have been a parent at all.
She has no regards for human life especially that she can offer her child as a collateral for her own personal need and gain. The fact that she can freely offer, with clear conscience, her own child speaks on how grave her gambling addiction is. I really hope that she will never ever able to retrieve her son after this incident- who knows what the son had suffered while he was staying with his mother during this time.
I hope that the government does something with this incident. The health and welfare of the child is the paramount consideration of the government; the child should be given to a legal guardian and the mother should not have custody or anything whatsoever with him.

I think a person like that is just as disturbed as someone who is addicted to drugs.
I have a family, a wife and children, and I consider them an asset far more precious than any money or anything in this world.
It's unimaginable to think about what this woman did, but one thing I'm sure of... she can't be called the "mother" of this boy.
Gambling is fantastic entertainment for those who know how to master it, but a lethal drug (that kills families) for those who let themselves be dominated by it.

Both genders can be a victim of doing something outrageous like this, gambling addiction will blind our judgment to do what is right, the government should move to protect the child and send the child to a children's welfare center, we have this kind in our country, until such time that the mother gets a full assessment if she is ready to take care of the child and she is totally cured of gambling.

With millions of people involved in gambling around the world, things like this or worst than this surely happened and for me this is just a matter of personal upbringing, I mean maybe that woman involved has been doing those weird things in the past that making her child as collateral is not a hard thing to do.
This case might be an eye opener for those people that is not responsible enough on their gambling activities and a reminder for them that if they continue doing this way then they will end up like this but then again we are millions so this might go unnoticed to most of the gamblers.

It seems like the tittle was click bait. Im feeling doubt about the tittle. It means like the tittle of thread said woman used child as collateral while he was ignoring his child after a big losses that happened with her. This is news that certainly makes everyone feel emotional I feel.
it was a 4 year old child and at such an early age he had to accept inhumane treatment.
There needs to be special action for this because if there is no hopeful action for this woman, it is clear that she will not regret what she has done and this could be something that others can follow if it is not followed up.

This is a pretty crazy act and it's clear that it has to be done at any cost. Giving up children for the sake of gambling clearly makes me personally furious to read this. Gambling has been considered as something negative and with this it will obviously make gamblers even more perceived as negative people. At least if we are not being right but we must still have a conscience.

I don't know if this woman deserves to be called a mother, indirectly she has killed the child just for the sake of gambling. women when they are addicted to gambling then their madness is not much different from what a man addicted to gambling would do but usually, they will sell themselves for it, the other extreme is like the story above (selling their children). this woman really deserves to rot in jail.
she needs to receive a hard lesson from what she did to his kid. once gambling is out of her system, she will wake up to her senses and for sure regret what she had done. this story is no surprise especially for addicted gamblers. they will make decisions that are extreme to the point of endangering the life of their child. we will be hearing worst case scenarios when it comes to gambling. and that's the reason why gambling has negative connotation in the community, just think about the situation they are willing to take for the sake of their gambling desires.

Gambling addiction don't recognize gender. Male or female, they are both susceptible to addiciton. This kind of story isn't the first one to be heard. This kind of heart breaking incidents always happen even before we are born in this world. Selling properties, relatives like daughter and sons to slavery just to fulfill the person's desire to gamble happens even in ancient times.
News like this is very alarming, a mother's love is unconditional and it will protect his children at all costs, in this case, addiction blurred her mind and she is not in his right mind anymore, the government should do an investigation on the status of the woman is she that desperate that she will abandon his 4-year-old Child, I am don't know Nigeria's take on gambling but if they have this many cases then its time to assess if gambling is doing harm to the family or this is just an isolated case, its very unusual for a mother to abandon his kid that age as collateral for gambling.
Indeed it is very alarming reason why many government put restrictions on gambling. In the earlier years, I think this kind of event happens way more frequently. Lucky in modern times government are able to minimize this kind of activity due to laws that forbid this kind of human traficking.
