That was a crazy addiction. I condemned such action and unconditional behavior for this is no good anymore. I think the said casino will also help gamblers to set their limitations and discourage debts, not just for their personal benefits. We have the same scenario as well in our country but the baby has been saved because of some concern citizens help it.

And for you also who take a baby as collateral, I don't know what is in your mind.

I don't know if this woman deserves to be called a mother, indirectly she has killed the child just for the sake of gambling. women when they are addicted to gambling then their madness is not much different from what a man addicted to gambling would do but usually, they will sell themselves for it, the other extreme is like the story above (selling their children). this woman really deserves to rot in jail.

People who are addicted to gambling have done crazy things as a result of their addiction. Nonetheless, I never imagined reading a story as unbelievable as this. It is the story of a woman who abandons her 4-year-old child after using him as collateral and sustaining huge losses. Firstly, I am shocked because it is the male gender who have been known to go to any lengths to satisfy their gambling addiction.  In addition, I wonder what would have moved the woman in this case to do this kind of thing. My assessment is that this is simply a case of irresponsible parenting and problem gambling. How do you think about this?

News like this is very alarming, a mother's love is unconditional and it will protect his children at all costs, in this case, addiction blurred her mind and she is not in his right mind anymore, the government should do an investigation on the status of the woman is she that desperate that she will abandon his 4-year-old Child, I am don't know Nigeria's take on gambling but if they have this many cases then its time to assess if gambling is doing harm to the family or this is just an isolated case, its very unusual for a mother to abandon his kid that age as collateral for gambling.

Treating humans as commodities just like the old days, eh? The casino never really thought that the mother would actually abandon her kid. Who would even do that? That's probably why they accepted the offer and wait for her to return with the money and fetch her child. I don't think it was their intention to treat the kid as payment for whatever amount she owes to the casino.

We just really don't know what extend a addict can do just to continue with their gambling. And so I'm not surprised by this story, I have heard this many times from drug addicts. And so they are the same as far as their mentality goes, their judges is really clouded and they doesn't care if they include the lives of a child. Hopefully the women will be jailed for this for child abandonment. And for the child, this is a trauma that he might have to carry for the rest of his life.

It was 4:48 in the morning, the temperature had dropped into the mid-40s, and security officers decided they needed to break into the truck.

Police took the cold, hungry, shoeless girl to a hospital for an examination and a bowl of cereal. Casino security officers set out to find her mother.

Guerra Perez was playing a slot machine, the officers reported.

Handcuffed and charged with neglect on that morning in November 2015, the 22-year-old became another in a string of Marylanders accused of abandoning a child while gambling at a casino.

That is insane addiction, how can a gambling shop allows 4 years old to enter the vicinity?
Now because of that addiction, that young child is at risk of losing his mother, such a heartbreaking situation. I hope they can settle this and the family of that mother will help her overcome that addiction and repay the money in time. This is an eye opening situation where we should not allow ourselves to be on this situation.

Reading this news really made me sad. How far has this woman been exposed to gambling addiction so that she dares and wants to leave her child for security? Then, what if he can't pay for it? Will he casually give the child away?

This is why when we gamble, we must be good at controlling ourselves, aware of whatever we have, and be able to manage ourselves, money, and games in these gambling activities.

But if it's already like that woman, I really can't understand it. I think he will dare to do as he pleases even more.

A woman has reportedly abandoned her 4-year-old son in a lottery shop in Enugu after incurring huge losses in gambling. The incident Sahara Reporters gathered happened at Moore House Street, Ogui in the state capital on Thursday. Residents of the area said the woman left her son in the Lotto shop after she incurred a huge loss she couldn’t offset. The little boy was later taken to Ogui police station when the wait for his mother was becoming endless. A police officer who confirmed the incident to SaharaReporters on Friday narrated how a little child was brought to the station by some persons who claimed his mother used him as collateral to play lotto.

Just when you believe that you have seen it all something like this happens, to begin with how did the woman lose more money than what she had on her at the time? Did the casino allowed her to borrow money? Because I really think such practice should be forbidden in order to diminish the instances in which an event like this could happen, second did she not had something else on her to leave as collateral like a smartphone? And even if that was not the case she could have always made a call so an item could be brought to her so she could leave it as collateral at the casino, and finally I really hope the police finds her and she receives some criminal charges as what she did is something that her son will never forget even if he is still a young boy.

so I think you can't judge the mother without knowing what really happened and the news channel is accusing the mother without proof, that's slander and defamation, something that in every corner of the world is a crime
If it's a true story, very irresponsible gambler and parent.
I've seen other consequences that other gamblers did when they can no longer afford to pay what they're up to due to gambling but this is out of this world. The humanity of this parent has been gone for her own child.
But again, only if it's true but if there's another side of the story but why would the woman leave her child there at 4 years of age there alone? There could really be some odd reason for that.

reading the article, what i realized was that the residents of the area said that the woman abandoned her son at the lottery store after she had a lot of losses, honestly i don't see how anyone could have a lot of losses in a lottery store and still like the channel Did you come to the conclusion that she gave the boy as collateral? What would the lottery shop win by taking the boy as collateral? this doesn't make any sense, because people took the boy to the police so easily the police could go to the lottery shop and see if it was true that the mother gave the child as collateral, but all I read in the article was that the police were still investigating and couldn't get useful information from the boy because he doesn't speak well, so I think you can't judge the mother without knowing what really happened and the news channel is accusing the mother without proof, that's slander and defamation, something that in every corner of the world is a crime
^ You perfectly arise good questions here, the first thing that I think is why the lottery casino owner agreed that the collateral is a boy, the son of an addicted woman to gambling which is they probably take the advantage of this woman. This is very irresponsible parenting if this is true or the mother has a mental disorder because no one parent will be put in danger of their child. However, we cannot give enough conclusions to judge the gambling addict's mother, there could be other reasons why that has happened. A lesson to learn from all of us here, we should always put a limit in gambling, never gamble too much and always fight back if we feel eagerness in gambling which usually turn into an addiction.

Firstly, for her to have had the thought of using the child as a stake in a game of probability, means she either regrets having such a child or her mental perception Is distorted. I also take it that the facility wherein the game was played may probably not be a licensed one, hence, such would not have happened.
Secondly, in addition to the said lady being diagnosed with a mental disorder, a psychiatrist should be able to give a clear analysis of the level of gambling addiction she has attained because I believe this is one of the worst-case scenario cases I have read especially coming from the female gender. Her case file can be used for research purpose in order to aid other gamblers be aware of red flags that might coerce them into doing silly things, because of an addiction of gambling.

this is just heartbreaking to read.

how was she allowed to gamble using her child as collateral? I hope the police also do an investigation on that lottery shop and punish the person that allowed the mother to use her child as collateral. all in all the only person that suffers in this incident is the child. If the police cannot find the mother I hope they can find someone that could take care of that child.

The woman is irresponsible and tired of the child but pretended to use the child as collateral. For the casino I guess they kept the child for safety as so many people are out there rich, but looking for children to help since they have none. She is a bad mother who is desperate of doing anything such woman should be arrested, she should also be deprived from seeing the child for a very long time to teach her some lessons .

My assessment is that this is simply a case of irresponsible parenting and problem gambling. How do you think about this?
Yes, irresponsible parenting. The woman is not responsible at all. But the woman would be found because likely she would be gambling in an area close to where she is living or close to her working place  where people would know him.

I think the woman is tired of her life with the child, or maybe not.

If people do not know the woman, that means she is from a far place and have no other mission than to sell the child or something, but she used her child to gamble instead. If this is what that happened, that means this is not about gambling or gambling addiction, but a mother that does not want her child again. But who will do such a thing? To let a woman use her son as collateral and he does not know her? So I go with my first opinion.
Right. This is a clear manifestation of irresponsible parenting, and definitely gambling addiction on his mother. Or it might be that this is not his biological mother that’s why it seemed so easy for her to leave a kid to serve as a collateral. However, whatever her own reason, she should not be doing this to a child just because of her own uncontrolled gambling addiction. She should be punished so she can learn her lesson after this.

Always in any situation that involves a minor, the situation is pathetic, but in the matter that concerns us it does not make it worse or better than it happens for a loan for gambling debts, in the objective that it is wrong, I think that this It is a good example of the extreme to which a human being goes, the Topic involves gambling, but that does not take him away from the real, global problem that exists, there is a black market that involves the trafficking of children for prostitution, the sale of drugs, etc.

It is one more drop that already exceeds common sense, the game or the bets are involved, but that does not make it more or less terrible, as I mentioned, the trafficking of minors is a serious problem.

This is really a sad thing and i think this woman should be punished with jail for doing this kind of thing. One thing is gambling and one thing is risking the safety of your own child for gambling reasons. This kind of people should be banned from casinos or after a certain amount is wasted that you either get limited or banned

What a sad thing for the child because one day he will understand that his mother is a lowlife, a worthless human being with no maternal instinct.

It may sound harsh but all animals have this natural instinct to protect children, which is why a mother cat will take care of abandoned litter of a dog, a fox, a hedgehog. It;s the same with dogs, who will take care of little cats and so on. People also have this instinct that most of us wouldn't walk past a crying child and this lowlife left her own child.

I have no words. It's not about gambling, she's just a bad mother. If she got drunk or wanted to date someone she'd do the same. You either are normal or messed up, it's that simple.

Incredible. This is the kind of stuff one expects to see as part of a dark comedy show like The Simpsons or South Park which usually present a parody of the reality through exaggeration of situations. It is sad to realize our world is becoming a parody of itself.

Another example of how not all people in their adulthood are suitable to take care of a child, not even their own son.
This reminds me the moral debate of parenthood as a social construct which pushes people who should not have children to have them, leading to these disgusting situations. One can expect this baby manages to have a normal life in the end, regardless of this selfish mother...

You have to wonder what kind of gambling outfit allows someone to even enter the premises with a young child like that. Often there is all sorts of drinking going on and the occasional violent outbursts, not to mention that gambling itself is pretty looked down upon in society due to the addiction generating behavior it can cause. It is sad to see someone hit rock bottom like this, as it was most likely a case of her completely running out of money and feeling absolutely devastated from losing the little she had. It just goes to show how irrational gambling can make certain people, most often those that have the least money available and not enough education to determine how the odds are stacked against them
