Nice work, jwinterm. Good-looking and functional GUI wallet.
 Cool
I will get around to trying the new GUI soon.

Can you please elaborate on what the version cutoff is for a "deprecated" wallet? (My apologies if it is in the readme or something)

To be honest, I'm not sure, but I think it is basically if you created a wallet in April or May. The current workaround for deprecated wallets is to use v0.8.8.4 to import the keys file and update the wallet, then you can use it in v0.8.8.5/6, but it will be fixed in the next simplewallet release. I'm pretty sure if you have an electrum seed for your wallet, then it's not deprecated.

My compliments on your work. To be clear, this still takes a lot of your RAM or doesn't it?

EDIT: I had to much beers, if I am reading the text correct it shouldn't eat up your RAM. If I can give you some advice, I would make the "tabs" horizontal instead of vertical, bit hard to read now (could be the alcohol, but still Tongue). Another point, if you create a new wallet the seed will be stored in a plain text file without encryption. I would advise to make some kind of announcement everytime you create a new wallet to encrypt to file or to make it a default thing to encrypt the textfile with the seed.

What if Monero one day pushed Esperanto into the spotlight?

In the future y'all can be Esperanto-speaking monero-using supermodels with robot body guards and cybernetic brain prostheses, if you like, but it may take a while.

Meanwhile, .0001 is not possible, because I will sink it all before that, personally.  (However, probably not with enough offered to buy everything at once, so that although it is guaranteed that there will exist some moving average period over which the bottom is > x, it is theoretically possible, albeit highly unlikely, that for a sufficiently narrow candle period, there might be one candle below x, if/when I provide a free put up to the whole float at x > 0.0001.)

Now that 0011 has held for 4 days, I think that each passing day increases the likelihood that the present price will prove to be the all-time bottom.  A week from now, I'll start to increase my buy rate on that theory, if it is still holding.

I'd like to announce the first alpha release of my unofficial lightweight GUI simplewallet wrapper, lightWallet. Using this program, you don't need to run the bitmonerod daemon on your own computer or do anything on the command line. By default it uses hegemoOn's (a long time Monero supporter) open node, although you can change it to use a different node (Atrides recently announced another one, for instance), or you can set it up to use a local daemon.

The release binary ( https://github.com/jwinterm/lightWallet/releases/download/v0.0.1-alpha/lightWallet.exe ) is a single file that has simplewallet.exe wrapped up inside of it, so you do still still need a 64 bit machine. Please check out the README.md file here as well:
https://github.com/jwinterm/lightWallet

I'm still working on the tx history part, and I'd like to add an address book, but since simplewallet itself doesn't really have either one of these features, I figured I'd go ahead and release it, since we have (at least) two open nodes to choose from now Smiley

The program should work to create new wallets or import non-deprecated wallets from their keys file (wallets with an electrum seed). There is an issue with simplewallet itself that prevents importing deprecated wallets at the moment, but this should be fixed in the next simplewallet release. The created/imported wallets will be stored in your My Documents folder in the lightWallet folder.

Here are a couple screenshots of the first two tabs:

Let me know what you think. I hope some people find it useful.

hey xmr peepz, been a while since i was around. saw a new update. i have all my xmr on a piece of paper, ie my old seed from the last version ago.

is it safe to upgrade my existing install & can i still sweep my old xmr's on paper since the number of words has changed? (Meaning will --restore-deterministic-wallet still work with wallets created on the older version? Just can't afford to lose a lot of xmr/money ya know, i'm in long myself, so i don't care about todays' price to be honest)!

Thanks, this is one of my fave threads, but it's so large i have to keep coming back and i can't keep up! Sad

Here's what I would do, when you need to spend funds.

1. Restore your wallet from the mnemonic seed using the old version you already have installed.

2. Upgrade to most recent Monero version.

3. When you open your wallet for the first time, it will detect it is from an older format and will provide a NEW list of seed words for your wallet.

In this earlier reply from Smooth to the same question, he said: "Not necessary to do right away but you can restore the old seed with the new wallet, you will then get a new seed"

One follow up though, by "Not necessary to do right away", does it mean that at some point, the old seeds will not be supported via the restore function?

Doomed to see the future and unable to prevent it
...A possible middle ground, of sorts, for "full" devices would be to run your own remote daemon. This should help you make a more informed choice:)

I was thinking this as I was reading your post. There should be a DIY in the OP and FAQ on how to set this up.

Can this be added to a todo list?

Do people still waste money on ICO? That is so 1-2 years ago...

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/bitbay-decentralized-marketplace-unmoderated-thread-857457

I'm pretty sure that most of these scam ICOs, if not all of them, involve the scammers running their own BTC through the ICO and ending up with both the BTC and the coin. So a disguised premine, with some extra BTC (but a much smaller unknowable amount) from idiots as a bonus.

Still There is no way that 3k BTC was all fabricated. Even half would be a great influx for support.

Did you guys miss this or am I being a moron?

talking about markets and monero - is anybody working on multisigs? can somebody say some words about this?
that is a crucial thing to have with a proper wallet (and i2p integration).
multisigs might make a big difference, new p2p markets are starting and this is a must have feature

The Monero Research Lab is working through the academic and research portion of this. There's literally no point in implementing multisig without full ring signature support, and so this requires some careful thought to get it right (cryptographically speaking). Just like with everything we do that is integral and deeply tied into Monero, we have to apply the appropriate amount of care, as people's lives and their livelihood can depend on it later on.

I would seriously recommend keeping this closed source if possible when implemented. Maybe 2 versions where the paranoid can use wallets without multi-sig. The first that gets here and can keep it to themselves will be the clear winner.

Added: Thinking more on this and is there any reason this could not be implemented in a wrapper? Just for security reasons that may be a eloquent way to address.

I wish I could still program this would be a great project to work on.

Hueristic dont worry. Noone is diluting anything. There were 10 other CN coins that used open source pool software that was created for Monero (+Bytecoin). Where are those coins now?

Cryptography needs to be open source. If it isnt you cant know that it really works. Serious investors know who does the job and where to invest. That shit with using closed source software on coins is being used mostly from scammers that actually dont have something legit or something at all and postpone the inevitable.

When retards throw 3k BTC on vaporware you should see that is the holy grail. You Don't think those scammers won't ICO a fork as soon as it's released? They are just sitting back drooling waiting to swoop in and reap the rewards of this teams hard work. MARK my words. I have a penchant for foresight.

Use this command line parameter "--restore-deterministic-wallet" with simplewallet.

In a different folder or computer restore your original wallet from the old seed words which you hopefully wrote down when you created the original wallet.

****Posted on Reddit as well****

Created a simple wallet about 6 months back and exchanged some bits for monero on Mintpal. I withdrew from Mintpal to the wallet I created. I recently updated home brew on my Mac and fixed some library links, entered my simple wallet name and password and up pops my public key with a zero balance. The seed is different though, which makes me think I may be ok just lost in translation on my part. Any tips on what I should do at this point? Thanks in advance.

Please pardon my ignorance but how do you restore?  All I see is the option to type in an existing wallet name and passphrase or "one will be created for you."

GetMonero.org / MyMonero.com
Its doing the same for me.

Something seems to be wrong with MyMonero.com at the moment - if I try to start a new account, copy & paste the seed words it says "account does not exist!"

 Shocked
My few XMR coins are still there so it is fixed I think.

Already existent accounts can log in, but creating a new one does not work.

Sorry about that, we pushed the latest updates to prod and had to immediately roll it back because it broke in prod, but didn't roll back the API server as well. All fixed now:)

what do you guys think will be the bottom of xmr ?
I Think:    0.00101010

1E-8 as always

Theoretically, but it comes to the bottom under current situation.
My vision is 0.001 holds, if not then new floor 0.0001

0.001 is a very psychological bottom, if that breaks it could get even worse.. @saddam, I agree with your point. A few other members here already brought up that alts are leveraged version, so when btc falls, alts fall even harder. Same goes other way around, just look at how nuts the top alts went in the last bubble..
