I'm not usually interested in altcoins myself, but I can see how people can enjoy them. Most altcoin "investing" is a lot like gambling. I can see how trying to navigate and manipulate these tiny markets could be fun for a lot of people. These pump-and-dump altcoins aren't really competitors to Bitcoin: they're really a way of using your bitcoins to gamble. There are also a handful of technologically interesting altcoins like Monero, which I think are very useful for testing new ideas that might one day be incorporated into Bitcoin.

As a geneticist, I can tell you this would be difficult to pull off - "interpret your genome" is the crux of the problem here.
Yeah, this is it. 23 and me (and others) give unreliable data, because in order to give accurate data, one needs to sequence a person's whole genome and we are very far from it. Upgraded to 0.8.8.6 and when exiting the daemon, well it just doesn't. It gives the proper messages as to what it is doing but the blockchain doesn't get stored. The second time I exited I came back over an our later and I had to just close it.
I just tried again and same thing. This time I checked to see if the HDD was active as if it was writing and it was for the entire time.

If the hard disk is active then it is likely saving but just taking a very long time. You are probably a bit short of RAM.
I synced the daemon just before I updated and it worked.
Update. I tried again last night and it worked. [/color] I don't know how long it took as I feel asleep for a bit over an hour. RAM usage during writing to disk totaled 75%, I have 4GB.
Hopefully not too long from now I will once again have a real computer. It will of course have a SSD. How much space will the blockchain need now, in a year, in 3 years?

talking about markets and monero - is anybody working on multisigs? can somebody say some words about this?
that is a crucial thing to have with a proper wallet (and i2p integration).

The Monero Research Lab is working through the academic and research portion of this. There's literally no point in implementing multisig without full ring signature support, and so this requires some careful thought to get it right (cryptographically speaking). Just like with everything we do that is integral and deeply tied into Monero, we have to apply the appropriate amount of care, as people's lives and their livelihood can depend on it later on.
I would seriously recommend keeping this closed source if possible when implemented. Maybe 2 versions where the paranoid can use wallets without multi-sig. The first that gets here and can keep it to themselves will be the clear winner.
Added: Thinking more on this and is there any reason this could not be implemented in a wrapper? Just for security reasons that may be a eloquent way to address.
I wish I could still program this would be a great project to work on.

same thing people said about 2014And they were right. But it seems will be 2015 also year of Crypto and 2016 again. Maybe will last many years before there will be year of something new.
They were right too, you're right about that. Bitcoin has had an incredible year now topped off with the Microsoft thing. And then we have all these interesting projects going on in the alt world too.
The only thing that didn't happen for Bitcoin is the price. But other than that things are pretty good. It's just a question of how people are going to generate demand for things like BTC and XMR.

Any idea how to build a BitPay for Monero? Payero?
It's not so simple.
You need quite alot, like:
- Monero database have to be finished and tested first.
- It's required to have a dedicated server at the first place.
- Nice domain name.
- A good skills to program something unique and nice
- Nice, but simple design
- A bit of marketing to make it alive...
and so on.
Not to mention a MSB license for dealing with fiat currency.
In the near term, hopefully Shapeshift.io will begin Monero support soon. They said they were going to when I emailed them about a month ago but I haven't followed up yet.
