Great potential for Monero.  Those sort of DNA tests you would want done anonymously, if not it could have dire consequences.  Quite likely that anyone who has one of these tests perfomed today has their DNA stored in some kind of a Database (illegaly) which could have consequences ranging from Health insurance implications to possible criminal charges based on DNA.  We all know how America treats its citizens privacy.

Anonymous cotton swab sent with anonymous XMR payment and an anonymous email address or postal box for results.

Someone should really make a monero based drug market

My suggestion for an easy to set-up, and probably quite profitable XMR business:  Set up an offshore site which will interpret your genome.  In the U.S. businesses like 23 & Me will provide you with data on your genetic markers from a swab, but the FDA forbids them to report on your genetic risks.  It is easy to automate the process of generating a report from the data.

Little off-topic, but what was their "official" justification for banning 23 and me from reporting on your genetic risks? (Other than to keep the U.S. sick-care monster chugging along.)

Can anyone help me update my monero wallet, it been long since i updated the chain. The keys file is updated last in may 2013. How should i proceed

I had the same issue. This is what I did.

This is in no way an official method but it worked for me.

Make sure you backup your files before you do this.

What I did was use version 8.8.4 to open the keys file.  I copied the .keys file into the directory that had the 8.8.4 daemon and simplewallet.  I then launched the daemon and waited for it to sync.  After it synced I opened the .keys file in simplewallet.  The simplewallet returned "unable to connect to daemon" and there was some red errors in the daemon window and would not sync.  I then typed save in simplewallet and it created a .bin file.  I was then able to open that wallet file in the latest version 8.8.6 and voila! I had access to my coins.

When the wallet will support enough features, I have no doubt the darknet community will adopt Monero.
Just wait.

I think POS would serve a purpose if it was the end result after long periods of POW for distribution. It is to be seen whether miners mining strictly for tx fees will be enough to support the network.

Many of us don't care for POS coins.
I am a strong proposer of turning Bitcoin into a pure POS coin!  Cool
Seriously, BTC is doomed due to it's ASIC mining monopolys. And some other facts.

I don't think POS solves anything.  POS has plenty of it's own flaws.

How am I spinning anything?

You can read all about it in their thread, please don't bring it here.

How am I spinning anything?

If CZ wanted a CN coin which is POS instead of POW why wouldn't he switch BBR over to POS?  Poor BBR bagholders.

This doesn't really belong in the XMR thread so this will be the last time I reply to this subject in this thread.

Maybe because it would be a betrayal to just radically change BBR like that.  Many of us don't care for POS coins.

How does CZ working on another project negatively effect his work on BBR?  Do XMR devs work only on XMR?  No they work on other things to generate an income.  That's what CZ is doing and he's fortunate to be able to work on a project based on BBR code.  He's brought in another developer as well which is something that people have been concerned about.  I see more good than bad but you can spin it anyway you want I suppose.

I can't speak for CZ so I'll quote him instead.

I'll write it only once for all who interested.
There was two ways to survive:

1. Transform BBR to some kind of scam with hard fork (any radical changes gonna be scam, including converting BBR into a PoS, since many people don't like PoS coins) and to seize money from BBR. This would be true betrayal. As you may know, i've decided to not kill this project in that way, since i have a future plans for this project.

2. The second was to work out some other interesting project with the same codebase, to cover live spendings, and to keep BBR as it originally was conceived.

I've chosed second way. Befor new year we going to release new GUI, and next release will be the new wallet mode, that actualy utilize fully anonymouse outputs feature. But still, if someone don't like this my attitude - i don't have time and intention to convince you - feel free to quit.

Zoidberg

PS About Boolberry: In any case Boolbery is my primary project, and since both this projects based on the same code base - it will be win-win for both of this project from technology point of view. ATM scruffy is working on BBR new wallet version since i want to have second developer who familiar with BBR code, so this took more time that i expected, but this is need for project safety, a lot of people were talked about it before in this thread.

I for one hope Monero never goes to ASCI, I think this keeps it fair for all miners.  Lets all of us have a shot at producing some coins.  Hopefully this will attract folks that don't have lots of disposable income to want to mine.  Many newcomers can't afford to build or buy rigs that can cost $2k -$10K like some of the Scrypt based ASCI rigs can cost.  The big mining operations generating BTC have made it hard for beginners to generate any coin just from CPU or GPU mining alone without substantial hardware investment.

I've been lucky to have some extra income to build a nice multi GPU rig but if I didn't have the extra income I could still use my CPU and GPU on my computer to mine at least a little coin.  With prices so low on XMR right now any beginner should just buy and hold IMO.  I wanted to mine because I love building computers and tweaking settings.  I've bought and mined a good bit of XMR since August.  Of all the coins out there right now Monero has some if not the best Dev team in the field.  I have been involved since July and I have been very happy with the development that has taken place.  Privacy is very important to me as well and XMR fits just right for my needs.  I know this coin is going to rise in price, popularity, acceptance and become more accepted as we move into the future.

I do want to thank the Dev team for all their hard work. They have done a great job putting info out about the development and also a good job in stopping the DDoS attacks and shutting trolls scum that have tried to wreck the coin.

I hope to see you all at the future XMR party when XMR hits $1000

This is good. Botnet is gone. Legit miners can accumulate coins now.

It looks like XMR is the best CryptoNote coin now. BBR's crypto_zoidberg said he developed another CryptoNote coin. It means that BBR future is bad.
