hey guys. I've been trying to download the blockchain for a few days now following the guide on http://monero.cc/getting-started/ and I'm stuck on block 56058 (38 days behind) no matter if i download the blockchain manually or let it sync itself, and I'm running out of ideas. Is there an upgrade I'm missing and the guide is outdated? Thanks

You probably aren't stuck. The message you see is reporting peers that are stuck. What does the diff command report?

Is this new(?) SSL attack published by Google last night relevant for Monero and other crypto currencies?

https://www.openssl.org/~bodo/ssl-poodle.pdf

I think you're missing the point.
SSL in this case has nothing to do with current price.

Right, but I wasn't referring to current prices. My question is a general one.

Nope, not relevant for crypto coins. SSL is used in HTTPS or SSH protocol.

OK :-) But then it is of (high?) importance for crypto exchanges, right?

For sure it can be, but I think there are people who cares about it (security) and that they are already fixing it.

Good news from Polo:

"SSLv3 has been disabled on all of our front end servers."

I found why Nvidia GTX970/980 GPU shows such bad performance (one of the reasons).
When running 3D games it enters P0 state (highest performance), when running Miners (CCMiner) it enters P2 state only. Specifically, the core goes to P0 but memory stays at P2, which means the memory never goes past 3000Mhz (6Ghz effective). So you're stuck with +-500hash.

Here's how to fix this:

1. download NVIDIA Inspector 1.9.7.3
2. click overcloicking
3. choose Performance Level[2] - (P2)
4. Click top right corner - Unlock Max
5. Move memory slider to 4000Mhz to start with (stable for me!)
6. Run your normal MSI Afterburner / Precision X and set your OC clocks for CORE
7. Run ccminer and enjoy your new kickass hash... well not really kickass, but I'm getting +-625 hash now. Power usage in MSI afterburner howers between 66-67%, so knowing TDP of 160W the card uses around 105-110W / 625 Hash! Bingo.

You welcome

P.S. This is for the GTX 980 obviously
P.P.S. For whomever is interested - this also makes the card get 7600 Khash in X11 mining without any CCminer tweaks, just 1500core /8000mem settings and +0.075volt

I sent 270 Monero on Poloniex already 20 hours ago, but they did not come, what to do?

Did you made the transfer with a payment ID? If so, you should contact Poloniex support or a Mod in the trollbox.

If you didn't use a payment ID, you should still contact poloniex support, but do it through their ticket system, not trollbox.

Management of MintPal is being handed off to another entity, Moopay LTD does not own the exchange.

Something doesn't add up here.

PS: I am just speculating here, not accusing.

Which is shown as a shocking low of 0.00031013 BTC on Bittrex just today

For sure it can be, but I think there are people who cares about it (security) and that they are already fixing it.

TLS is what you want. SSL is actually outdated and not always used. https doesn't show the Algorithms used, you need to click deeper into your browser to see. I doubt you will find any trading website beeing still on the oldest stuff, since monthes!

It's Mintpal's management, Moolah.io aka "Alex Green" who fucked everyone over. What a bunch of scumbags. I wish a lengthy prison sentence on them.

I have over 350 XMR that have been stolen from me by mintpal and specifically these moopay people.  Please tell me that there is some sort of resolution coming to this and that our devs have been in touch with them to get this straightened out.  Huh  Cry

What do you expect the devs to do at this point?  There is nothing they can do.

I'm glad I didn't have anything on mintpal.  After c-cex and cryptorush stealing some of my funds I had enough and don't keep much on any exchange.  I know it's been said over and over again but don't use an exchange as a wallet for your coins.  Do your trading and get out.

Still wild and free
If mintpal was short of funds for whatever reasons, there is an easy solution to mitigate it:

1) Declare you will refund people in BTC, don't leave them any choice.
2) Dump all customers' XMR on another exchange, sell into bids until very low and strongly affect the price downward
3) Start to refund people based on new price - which is now much lower than originally and than the average one of your dump.

Sorry but Mintpal never contacted Monero people.
I'm on IRC #monero and #monero-dev everyday and I never seen any Minpal staff around. I don't read everything but no discussion about it right now.

I suspect that the drop in price is due to either to Mintpal dumping XMR on Poloniex (like Sharexchange did before with other coins) or to the FUD around it.

MP has been pretending they've been trying to be in touch with the devs whereas they havent. I'd avise you to read Smooth' posts. He mentions this. Its a big mess. Good luck.

Well, Mintpal owes me 15 XMR, I left it on the exchange.... I'm mad....

I never leave anything on Polo. Of course this makes me miss buying opportunities as I have to wait for a confirmation for transferring Bitcoin in (and I'm too cheap to pay a fee lol).
