I wrote to a small exchange with /USD pairs based in Hong Kong. I'm not convinced with their security, but I've done some successful withdraws (EDIT: somewhat slow - 1-4 hours delays with manual confirmations from the admins). I wrote them mainly because of the XMR/USD pair they could add:

Dear Crypto-trade Team,
Last 3 months there is an unequal cryptocurrency on the market. It's called Monero (XMR) and it's different codebase and not a Bitcoin clone. It's using ring signatures and stealth addresses to achieve unlinkable and intractable transactions ant it's here to become the cryptocurrency of the future. If you research it you'll find that there is no other cryptocurrency to achieve even near to the privacy incorporated in the XMR protocol (excluding 80+% premine CryptoNight Bytecoin and also excluding other 6-7 proven scam projects of CryptoNight - see https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/blowing-the-lid-off-the-cryptonotebytecoin-scam-with-the-exception-of-monero-740112). There is no premine or ninjamine and it's the fairest launch possible. From it's start it's always in the first 4-10 on trading volume from all the coins (see coinmarketcap) and it's here to stay. It's not a pump and dump coin and it have a huge amount of Bitcoin early adopters in it's community! It's traded on 6-7 altcoin exchanges, but there is still no exchange with XMR/USD pair. My opinion is that if you add it on your exchange it'll be an opportunity for you to be the first and get some volume (possibly more then all the shitcoins you are adding lately). The XMR community is convinced that adding it to an exchange is an exchange decision, so don't expect voting - it's up to you to take the opportunity.

Oh right, guess I missed the part where the other 6-7 were proven scam projects of 'cryptonight'
which is the proof-of-work function by the way...

I think if they weren't scrambling to add XMR already, you just won them over

Hello to all!

Not been here for a summer vacations time. Does anybody knows why last monero missive @ Aug 16, so two weeks have been passed without a missive? Something wrong?

Crypto is the separation of Power and State.
In either case, micromanaging the beliefs of others is not a very libertarian activity.  That's the biggest flaw of the Randroids and many anarchists.

I very much enjoyed your response....but I hope it's clear that I am doing no such micromanaging.  Believe as you wish, and I will invest as I wish....  Live and let hodl.  But we are talking about an anonymous cryptocurrency here, man!  It needs to be free from backdoors, compromised developers, and any kind of state surveillance.  David Latapie may be a brilliant developer....but I do not trust him for the task at hand.

Glad you enjoyed my creative writings.  Didn't mean to accuse you of thought policing, just wanted to crack a silly joke to lighten the mood and stir the pot.

The great thing about open source is that we don't have to trust DL nor anybody else.  The code is the code, personalities are just a sideshow.

I agree about hlod and let hlod.  EG, when a certain pool operator started feeling and acting entitled to the work of private mining software creators, I left his pool and never looked back.  I didn't milk the event for drama, I just did it.  That my new pool worked much better was just gravy on top!

We individualists are superior to socialists, and can afford to indulge them when convenient.  Try to be compassionate and raise them up.  It's to all of our benefit that they be gently deprogrammed and repurposed for the common good.  Consider them raw materials and refine as needed!   Cool

Edit: I see the twitter will be tightened up.  Given his views, I don't trust a coin with the state socialist David Latapie as developer or promoter.  This may seem extreme, but again, I don't have to hold your coin.  But I shall for a while as I figure out what to do here...

David Latapie is mainly a free marketer, he just don't understand few part of the free market economy...

Live and let hodl.

Wise words and very relevant to the ongoing unnecessary spat between anonymous coins.

That is a fair point of view. You are entitled your own beliefs on the matter.

Many brilliant coders are socialists.  They are over-specialized in one domain to the detriment of others.  Vanishingly few of us can be true Renaissance Men like Leonardo da Vinci or Satoshi Nakamoto.

Don't worry about it.  They will learn and evolve, in time.  Or they will perish in the aftermath of petrodollar collapse.

In either case, micromanaging the beliefs of others is not a very libertarian activity.  That's the biggest flaw of the Randroids and many anarchists.

XMR crashed -13%.   Wink

XMR is and BBR are currently in a massive uptrend from 17 Aug.

Fixed it for you.  Not sure why you accidentally forgot to mention BBR.  I'm sure it wasn't on purpose!   Wink

Of your two assertions, that one was the only one that was factually and knowingly false. Your "fix" make them two factually and knowingly false assertions, for a rate of 100% factually and knowingly assertions. You are the definition of a troll and welcome to ignoreland.

Maybe because BBR was in a downtrend for most of that period?

Maybe because this is the XMR thread not the BBR thread?

I'm not sure which.

I'm curious about indiemaps's anti-socialism prerequisities. If there's one socialist, does he automatically reject the open source project? Or does one free market-proponent and one socialist cancel out? Is there a weighting function? So many questions.

Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy ROFL

Weighting function.  But seriously folks...

As posted above, I was told on twitter by @monerocurrency that "most people in our team have a similar opinion", and I assumed this included the "liking socialism" part they also tweeted.  All views should be respected and you guys can do what you want, it's just that I don't have to hold your coin (free market of crypto....for the moment).  What I want now is a good exit strategy...

Edit 2: No teenager, I am a 30-something with unbelievable angst.

Thank you for making us aware of that. I have now learned (I didn't know) that the twitter account is being handled by community volunteers. Their efforts are well meaning and helpful, but it seems things got a little derailed there. For the most part it should only be used for announcements, and certainly not for personal political opinions. We will tighten up controls on it.

I assure you that I have not been polled on my political views (nor I suspect has the rest of the team) so whoever posted that simply does not know what he or she is talking about.

This is my first post here, but I am not a "troll".  I am a significant holder, accumulating over the last months, and you can tell by my twitter @indiemaps that I have supported Monero in the past.  But I can't see how anybody can trust the socialist devs of this project after the revelations of the past few days.  I will not dump b/c I believe there is more BTC to be made off this flavor of the season coin.  But I have certainly lost my trust and faith in the coin and team.

The developers claim to want to separate the monetary system from the government, yet David Latapie also believes in socialist education, redistributionist schemes, and forced/violent taxation.  How this is compatible with an anonymous cryptocurrency is beyond me.

I and I hope all the other anarchists who have supported this coin in the past need to move on....to a coin with nonviolent developers who do not wish to force their views of society on us.

Decentralized development means different people will have different opinions, see Mike Hearn versus Peter Todd versus sipa in Bitcoin.

If you can't handle other people having different opinions about the monetary systems of the world, you might be fascist.

Nice try.  I can handle other people having any opinion, just not force or violence.  You can have your socialist views, and others will soon have my monero!

And, Anon136:

Yes, it is that I do not trust state socialists to develop the coin that is being described here and desired by the community here.  Yes, I do believe that especially David Latapie would be willing to cooperate with any and all regulators to create backdoors/enable spying on transactions.

Also, I love Hoppe.

There is room for differing views in the developer team. In fact I consider that one our great strengths. I can also assure you that the full range of views is well represented.

I was told specifically on twitter by @monerocurrency that "most people in our team have a similar opinion"

Please identify the tweet so I can point to it when I ask that our opinions not be misleadingly characterized.
