What are basic instructions to derive viewkey for an address? Want to be able to keep an eye on cold storage.

If it's your own address, you can type "viewkey" in simplewallet.

If it's cold storage, he won't be able to do that.

I have the tools to do this in an easy way, but you'd want to pull the webpage and use it offline on a one-time install of some sort for maximum security (if using for "real" cold storage).

After you've gotten the viewkey, you should be able to import it into simplewallet to watch with --generate-from-view-key argument.

(PM me if you want to use the site; I don't want it too public yet)

Once again, I'm try to build the RPi2 version (using the Berkeley DB) following this guide:

Quote
git clone https://github.com/monero-project/bitmonero.git bitmonero
cd bitmonero

vim Makefile

in the “release-all” section add this code:
-D NO_AES=ON (type “i” to edit) escape, then :x to save

cd src/blockchain_db/lmdb
vim db_lmdb.cpp
scroll to line 675 change “size_t mapsize = 1LL << 34;” to “size_t mapsize = 1LL << 30;” :x

cd
cd bitmonero
make release-all
cd build/release/bin
./bitmonerod --db-type berkeley

However, it is no longer possible to execute this as db_lmdb.cpp has been changed:

Quote
cd src/blockchain_db/lmdb
vim db_lmdb.cpp
scroll to line 675 change “size_t mapsize = 1LL << 34;” to “size_t mapsize = 1LL << 30;” :x

Could someone help me out here and update the guide?:

i dont know who made it, but i guess the wordlists for other languages need to be created from scratch and have to pass the same check as the english one.
the first 3 letters of every word have to be unique.

please correct if i'm  wrong.

You are correct.

Someone posted dead-easy ubuntu build instructions not long ago and i forgot to bookmark  Undecided

Anyone have a link for that?

Long version (for 14.04):
Code:
sudo apt-get install libunbound-dev libevent-dev libboost1.55-all-dev libgtest-dev libicu-dev libbz2-dev build-essential cmake
git clone https://github.com/monero-project/bitmonero.git
cd bitmonero
make

hello world
- Russian and German word lists are now available for seeds.

Does anyone know where the list has been sourced from? It's not a direct translation of the English one, isn't it?

Since my last post on the topic, here's an overview of the main changes pushed to bitmonero master:

- Russian and German word lists are now available for seeds.

- An option in simplewallet to always confirm a transfer with the user (currently, it only does if the transfer needs to be split in more than one tx). To use: set always-confirm-transfers 1. You will need to supply your wallet password, as this is a persistent option that gets saved to the wallet.

- An experimental new tx construction algorithm, which should fix problems when trying to send a large part of one's balance. It's a new simplewallet command (transfer_new), so the usual transfer command still works as it used to. Please report any problems with it if you try it. Note that using it is safe if you set always-confirm-transfers 1, since you can always say no. set_log 1 will log the new transactions to simplewallet.log regardless.

And last, a number of smaller fixes went in: from unit tests to word list tweaks, build system issues, and misc cleanup.

What's up with all the new reddit subscriptions? We used to gain a handfull a week whereas last week we got a 100 or so. A lot of them have names with xmr/monero in them too, I'm a bit sceptic this being 'natural' actually. Or is someone actively promoting?

I agree there appears to be an organized campaign, but it's a bit more subtle than past trolls and reverse trolls Bytecoin has sent our way. Let them huff and puff! They'll not blow our house down; it's made of brick, not straw or sticks.

Atleast the newcomers are asking genuine questions instead of the reverse trolling that is going on here at bitcointalk. Also, because it is our own subreddit people will mind less which kind of questions or topics are stated than here on bitcointalk.

Anyone here using the latest master? The difference in syncing from scratch is HUGE, for comparison I tried to sync Boolberry that some trolls like to say how its so much better than Monero™ (for some reason besides the dev skimming 1% of all blocks Tongue and doing nothing) and I coudn't tell the difference.

NoodleDoodle's fantastic work.

Fantastic indeed. It now syncs in less than a day with my meager 10Mbps ADSL.

Second that. Sync has always a pain with monero, great to see that it's now soo much better!

Everyone please join

and

Better organization of information and less trolling

Except that I can't reply in any threads on https://forum.getmonero.org

I used to be able to.  I can start threads, which I have to let it be known I am having issues.  Now waiting, it's all I can do.

I see your thread there; since you can't respond there, I'll ask here:

Have you tried a new user account or different PC? Those seem the most obvious isolation ideas.

Thanks for the suggestions.  Neither worked.

I had already tried 3 different browsers.

In case anybody was wondering luigi found the problem.  I am an idiot.

Thank you luigi1111

What ended up being the solution in case this problem happens to someone else?

Here on BCT you click reply and then write your post.  If you do that on Monero Forums you get the error "whoops something went wrong".  There you have to write your post and then hit reply,  Fluffypony said they were going to change the error handling, I guess to something more informative.

The thing is I used to know how to post on MF Tongue

Speaking of dice sites, who's gonna be the next Voorhees?  Who will make the goto dice/gambling site for Monero?

I was actually seeing a push from some of the more creative alt coiners to create slot machines and virtual scratch off tickets with cryptocurrency.  If they were provably fair, this could be lucrative.

I know maybe I'm opening up the floodgates for spam here, but can someone summarize all major Monero gambling sites in a single post?

What about making a web/wallet front-end for the nifty #Monero IRC gambling bot thingy?  That entity is trusted AFAIK.

S.DICE is an MPEX asset, which is another reason to create an equivalent ("RPEX"  Cheesy) in Monero-space.

Crypto Kingdom will need such a provably fair backend for its many casinos and gentlemanly gaming parlours.  I'd lend the hell out of my stash to a suitable Tacoshi Dice start-up.   Cool

And then there's poker.  The next Seal With Clubs should use Monero to avoid Micon-type imperial entanglements....

feel free to check out safedice.com  Wink check safedice's stats for xmr(and btc ofc) at dicesites.com. there is definitly demand for gambling with xmr, since we've experienced nice organic growth from the start.
