Facts are more efficient than fud
Additionally each surname has 4 sylabbles and the names' initials can both be re-worked to spell NSA.

This is exactly the kind of fortune telling bullshit I'm talking about. Sabelnikov is by all accounts a real person. So the fact that his initials reorder to NSA means what exactly? His mother (who presumably named him) was an NSA spy? Operating under NSA mind control in choosing a name?

There was a pro-skateboarder in the 80's named Natas Kaupas, and even though it was widely printed that he was Lithuanian and his name was the masculine spelling of Natasha "birth of God, Christmas," many skate enthusiasts (teenagers) perpetuated the belief that he was a satanist or a warlock and even that he had sold his soul to get his skateboarding skills--he was so fed up with explaining it for years on end that he released a Satan inspired board to simultaneously capitalize-on and mock those who refused to believe it was just the name his non-Satan parents gave him.

This kind of idiotic "fact" inventing happens even when the person explains every last part of it, so it isn't surprising what happens when most or all of the details are missing. Just think turtles all the way down and you get the imaginations wonky sense of humor.

I believe a very strong case has been made (surely the coincidence is too great)

Very strong case? No, just no.

You would love numerology, or http://www.tylervigen.com/spurious-correlations

No coincidence is too great when your source material consists of an unlimited number of potential coincidences.

1.1 My source material is rethink-your-strategy's (RYS) post.

1.2.RYS incorrectly states there are no known entities connected to BCN. He contradicts himself by mentioning Andrey N Sabelnikov

1.3 In RYS's post a compelling connection is drawn between Sabelnikov and BCN. The Russian author of the epee lib is almost certainly a BCN dev (the coincidence is too great). This is widely accepted.

2.1 The set of people involved in BCN's creation is undoubtedly small.

2.2 The set of people involved in Cryptonote's creation is undoubtedly small.

2.3 A Russian involved with the tiny BCN set has a name which translates into the only (fake) name we have to associate with CN. The first word in his surname (sabel) translates (in Dutch) to the fake Dutch name created for CN (saber). The second part of his surname ("niko") is short for Nicolas. Additionally each surname has 4 sylabbles and the names' initials can both be re-worked to spell NSA.

2.4. The chance of such a profound name collision to occur within two tiny sets is minute. This is beyond coincidence.

2.5 Sabelnikov is Saberhagen.

3.1 The above is conjecture and cannot be proven, just like everything RYS posits. However to my mind it is even more compelling. It is elegant, witty and poetic. And quite possibly/almost certainly true.

3.2 Sabelnikov has both the motive and means to create/help create cryptonote (inc presumed botnet skills discovered in Jan 2012).

Does static build work on Windows? I'm able to compile the binaries using the instructions on github for Windows64, however, if I try to build static binaries I get:

Code:
$ make release-static
make: *** No rule to make target 'release-static'.  Stop.

'make release-static' is the command suggested on the github page, but it's not in my list of targets in Makefile:

Code:
# Help Target
help:
        @echo "The following are some of the valid targets for this Makefile:"
        @echo "... all (the default if no target is provided)"
        @echo "... clean"
        @echo "... depend"
        @echo "... install/local"
        @echo "... edit_cache"
        @echo "... version"
        @echo "... install"
        @echo "... rebuild_cache"
        @echo "... list_install_components"
        @echo "... test"
        @echo "... upnpc-static"
        @echo "... unbound"
        @echo "... lmdb"
        @echo "... otshell_utils"
        @echo "... common"
        @echo "... crypto"
        @echo "... cryptonote_core"
        @echo "... blockchain_db"
        @echo "... mnemonics"
        @echo "... rpc"
        @echo "... wallet"
        @echo "... p2p"
        @echo "... cryptonote_protocol"
        @echo "... connectivity_tool"
        @echo "... simpleminer"
        @echo "... simplewallet"
        @echo "... daemonizer"
        @echo "... daemon"
        @echo "... blockchain_import"
        @echo "... blockchain_converter"
        @echo "... blockchain_export"

Am I missing something on the cmake command? Github instructions just out of date?

Well this is a funny one.

almost a year ago rethink-your-strategy points to a powerful link between Sabelnikov and BCN. XMR crazy for that.
[see  https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/blowing-the-lid-off-the-cryptonotebytecoin-scam-with-the-exception-of-monero-740112 ]

earlier today Wanderlust points to a powerful link between Sabelnikov and Saberhagen. XMR ignoring that.
[see below]

what gives?

Old speculation is old.  And you and all your puppets are trolls.

Putting the socks to one side, I believe a very strong case has been made (surely the coincidence is too great) for Sabelnikov being van Saberhagen.

I have never known anybody to draw a direct link between them before.

googled translate sabel as in Sabelnikov. i believe you'll find it interesting and possibly of relevance to the origins of all CN coins.ty
I think it's fair to say Sabelnikov is van Saberhagen (or a part of van Saberhagen). If true this has massive ramifications.
See https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.11852108

So it's agreed the coincidence is too great and Sabelnikov is one of the CN authors, or the only author (Saberhagen)?

This guy again...?  Roll Eyes

Yes, and this time he brought something to the party. You might have to rethink a few things (inc your strategy) if I'm correct.

Monero
The weekend of 27-30 August is available in Malla for a Monero meetup. I'd like to organize the event if minimum 10 people enroll.

Price for a 4-day event or any part thereof, including airport transfer from Tallinn, the conference and all meals, would be 300 EUR.

There are 3 kinds of rooms, all renovated in 2014. Also dormitory is available. Rooms will be added to the bill per night.

This short note is just for probing the possible interest, so please speak freely! Smiley

I would love to attend eventually, but this year it is impossible with school and health issues lingering. I hope you find enough people to allow for the meetup.

The meeting point is a bit too far off. Why don't you set up a meeting in central Europe, e.g., near the coast in Danemark (off-season prices for fully equipped holiday houses are quite good) ;-)

In addition to the fact that the Malla looks quite cool, Estonia has this going for it:

I hope to make it to Malla someday, but this time I can't.

Sounds like a fun idea!

I am far away but would love to visit your bitcoin castle at some point. I don't think I will be able to make it this year unfortunately

I have a feeling that in a few years many Monero owners will be able to attend these meetups

I wonder when the brand is shifted from being a Bitcoin Castle to a Monero Castle.  Roll Eyes
I guess we need to waite until minimum next year as Monero reaches 1000 usd/xmr.  Cheesy

Want privacy? Use Monero!
Bitcoin's fungibility dismissed (again) -> http://cointelegraph.com/news/114806/mint-exchange-service-for-newly-mined-coins-rebuffs-bitcoins-fungibility?ref=2991&ref=2604

Another reason to use a truly fungible currency.

I talked to one of the owners about XMR a few months ago.
I suggest some people send them emails asking them to accept XMR for clean BTC. Seems like a logical combination.
