use an unlock_time=9999999999 (seconds - 317 years or so) - for example, or even higher.

That's not quite burn, but close.  The 317 year time-capsule has a value, and is transferrable.  It destroys XMR for most functional purposes, yes, but it creates a new security, the XMR time-capsule.  The effect on the float would be, probably measurably, different from the effect of a classic burn.

The highest I believe is around 1000 years; 500m blocks. As an unsigned 64 bit number the highest would be 264-1 seconds. Something in the neighborhood of 600 billion years.

And it isn't so readily transferable because that would require private keys to be transferred and the buyer can't be sure of getting the only copy.

Anyway, I think you can just set the output key to be something chosen as obviously not real, like all 7s. Possibly you can set it to something that is positively invalid, too, but I'm not sure.

There's no need spreading fud in the roadmap thread.

Calling out lying scammers for who and what they are not "fud", it is the duty of any person of integrity. Something you would know nothing about.

CryptoNote assets would be amazing!! If only there wasn't the bad 'smell' around the ~80% premine.

That premine could be a blessing in disguise if it were used to subsidize people who issue and maintain Assets like Bitshares': Assets tied to others.

The 82% premine is indeed a blessing in disguise - they own so many of the outputs in the txoset that they can trivially deanonymise everyone's transactions.

Let me say that again: as 82% of Bytecoin's outputs are controlled by persons unknown to the cryptocurrency community, those unknown entities (or entity) can deanonymise every transaction you make with Bytecoin.

There is no way around this, there is nothing they can do to reduce the attack surface. Even if 1000 sock puppets come forward and claim to own a portion of those outputs it is still impossible for anyone to independently verify.

Technical details of why such massive output ownership is a death knoll can be found in MRL-0001: A Note on Chain Reactions in Traceability in CryptoNote 2.0

Aaaaaand it's gone.

Hello,
I consider to buy some Monero for the first time and took a look for a good wallet. I am wondering how secure MyMonero.com is? Is it like an exchange where all coin could be stolen without having the private key?

No, it's more like blockchain.info, the private key is only on the client side and never ever known to the website.

In addition:

MyMonero only has your view key, not your spend key, so no way to touch your funds without your involvement:)

PS: MyMonero is run by core developer Fluffypony

Also, not possible right now, but I believe that at some point you will be able to use your mnemonic seed (or your keys, not sure which) from MyMonero on simplewallet. So in the case that MyMonero ceased to exist, you could still have access to your funds.
meanwhile you can also create your seed with simplewallet (25 words with --generate-new-wallet) and use it on mymonero and/or simplewallet
just be aware of : your login key will be twice as long (25 words vs 13), transactions previous your first login are not visible (will cost you 10 xmr if you want to import them but if it's a new wallet, you don't need to do it), working with english seed but not sure for other languages

There's no need spreading fud in the roadmap thread.

The point you're making is a good take on the CryptoNote technology itself. I've forwarded MRL-0001 to the team to let them do the review of Monero's research. I'll provide you with our conclusions.

Mouahahahaha Cheesy
Since you claim to discover the MRL articles now, you should forward all of them, you'll save time.

I found a more appropriate thread https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.11034887 since the vulnerability is directly related to the premine / ninjamine of Bytecoin.

Aaaaaand it's gone.

It's deletey around here recently...

As an OT aside.  Although there is a famous "death knoll" near where I live here in Dallas TX, I think you may have meant "death knell"

Whoops, I did indeed!

I created a wallet on MyMonero and was hoping I would be able to buy XMR there also. Is that something that may be available in the future? Until then where's the best place to buy XMR?
