Aaaaaand it's gone! Happens, when believing into a Bucket Shop Coin traded on merely one Exchange.

Anybody thought about alternative methods of trading Monero? Oh, I see ... you allready did.

I've traded Monero at least 5 different ways and probably more than that.

5 ways to trade Monero outside of Poloniex:

1) shapeshift.io
2) bitsquare.io
3) bittrex.com
4) changer.com
5) moneroclub.com

There's more, but that's off the top of my head.

6. p2p
7. bter.com
8. hitbtc.com
9. xmr.to
10. openbazaar

Not all of these are recommended. In fact I recommend none of them. Do your own homework.

11) changelly.com (Minergate owned)
12) bitok.com (new?)
13) cryptopia.co.nz
14) fortunejack.com/exchange (new?)

Don't worry, Polo is just down while they upgrade a few neglected features.

New XMR pairs including ETH/XMR, LISK/XMR, and DAO/XMR will be added when it comes back up.   Cool

I speculate Monero will go up and over the $1 mark valuation ....AGAIN.

I speculate my low-ball offers get filled.... AGAIN.

You seem very sceptical ... are you afraid that XMR could be delisted on POLO as a trading pair?

No I do not think so... And ultimately XMR might be a shiny coin with bright future but I think it takes some time as the big public will pay attention to it.
The possible scenario might be as follows: BTC or ETH will introduce people to crypto. After when people will find the world of crypto they will pick their favorites (for some people it is privacy and then they will choose Darkcoin or Monero, for other people they might want some real world use and they will choose ETH, for some peole they prefer something else and they will choose the crypto that has not been yet introduced to us etc).
I see the future with several parallel cryptos focusing on their own userbase, not necessarily competing against each other but living together (just like now we have in fiat world: Sweden has Kronas, Finland has euros and Russia has Roubles - they are not competing with each other but serving their own userbase).

That being said, the short term we have some chances to go down from here although I also want to hold those btc since btc has brought some nice ROI recently.

I do not see Polo delisting Monero, it still gives more trading volume than most of the coins there, and the criteria for Polo is that they want to make money from fees. As long as it makes at least somewhat sense to keep the trading pair, they will keep it. It is a business that makes money from trading. Obviously they want high trading volumes but it seems it is enough the volume is at least on acceptable levels.

I share your opinion that cryptoscene is not a zero-sum game. But I am less and less confident about Monero staying a trading pair on poloniex since it is slowly losing positions against other coins there. Anyway, holding XMR now is a very risky investment, as are the other investment in any crypto. Let's see how it goes Grin

We should all be proud, smoothie just made XMR more popular and more people are now looking at the coin's tech! Cheesy

Yep, smoothie did us Mustangs a solid.   Cool

Many people will come for the shiny-pretty-shiny and stay for "the coin's tech."

And he's donating something from each sale to the dev fund!  What a guy.   Smiley

Yes. Smoothie will usually send you the coin's address for you to fund prior to shipping - You cannot send him funds to fund the coins, you must do that after buying due to .... America money laws that forced Mike caldwell to quit selling funded coins.  Roll Eyes  Also, He resides in Hawaii USA so the shipping can be pricey. He is basically the second most trusted coin maker other than Mike Caldwell aka Cascascius. Good luck on the auctions. We should all be proud, smoothie just made XMR more popular and more people are now looking at the coin's tech! Cheesy

Edit - Thanks smoothie! Smiley

Actually if I understand it correctly, I do believe that all of the coins will be funded in advance of shipping. Either by sending the XMR to smoothie himself funding the coin directly or to a trusted 3rd party that transfers the XMR onto the coin address when the shipment has arrived successfully.

Are you planning to offer BUYER FUNDED coins?
Here is the dilemma with BUYER FUNDED coins. If I mark the coins with a symbol or text "BUYER FUNDED" on the holograms and destroy the only other private spend key copy that was meant to generate key images and signatures after being funded, the owner of the coin (and subsequent owners) would not be able to prove the actual balance of the coin without opening the coin up.

If a coin is not funded prior to leaving my possession, the owner of that coin could never get the key images and signatures of each output. If they ever choose to fund the coin they would not be able to prove the balance of the coin to a 3rd party unless they were to open the coin thus revealing the base64 private spend key.

A possible alternative is that a trusted 3rd party of the customer (a person that I trust as well) would need to hold the funding amount until the coins arrive in customer's possession. Then they would need to have that 3rd party fund the coins. I would then generate all of the necessary information to prove the balance of the coin(s) and then destroy the base 64 private spend key copy on my end. This would possibly be an option for those who wanted not to risk their MONERO while in transit. The downside to this option is I would not be able to ship them a hard copy certificate containing the information for proving a coin's balance. They would just get a digital format (text or pdf).

Physical coins are a great way to absorb some of the money supply and get some funds off the exchanges. Not to mention they look great, are highly collectible, and attract the interest of numismatists that may not be following Monero yet.

With Smoothie's limited run of 250 physical Monero coins, that's 43,750 XMR taken off the market by the end of this month (100 + 50 + 25 XMR stored in each set * 250).

Maybe that's a drop in the bucket to some, but I think every additional chance to use XMR as a store of value is good.

Wait... that is, of course, the buyer funds the coins before shipping... right?

edit: or better yet ALL of the buyers fund ALL the coins.. which is pretty unlikely to happen.
