I can see monero as a really good potential anonymous and secure store of wealth; when the marketcap of monero is in the hundreds of billions or trillions, I can see HNW and UHNW storing at least some of their wealth in monero, either because they want privacy or because they're trying to hide their assets from family/friends/government/mafia etc.

But how can we help it make that first leap? For the first UHNW guy, monero is not yet a great store of value. How can we convince him and others to store their value in monero? It's not going to happen if we just say "oh, if even one rich guy comes here we'll go to the moon".

How do we get that rich person/people to join monero? What could we do to promote it and make it more attractive to that group of people?

IMO, a lot of it has to do with network security. And with cryptocurrency, the network security depends on network hashrate. As I've posted before, Our current network hashrate could be doubled for ~5 million USD, so no one is going to store their value in Monero if the entire network can be attacked for ~5 million USD in hardware. Hence, my effort to get a crazy bounty going for publicly releasing any optimized mining software, and my push, in general, to encourage mining.

Of course its a catch 22, because an increase in value causes an increase in hashrate, and an increase in hashrate can cause an increase in value........... so.............

AmericanPegasus moderates the Monero reddit forum.  Seems fairly active there.  As far as Monero going up in price, I really think its a matter of education regarding cryptocurrencies.  Bitcoin is the big mover, but it has fallen short of my expectations for digital cash.  I hope as time goes on, people will realize that ring signatures, stealth addresses and specifically cryptonote protocols as implemented in Monero assure much more privacy and independence from the banking establishment.

On the other hand, the fiat exchanges are coming online soon, and this will cause upside pressure.

Which fiat exchanges?

hello world

i dont want to ruin the party but please only post price related stuff here. (not like my post now Grin):

very glad to hear the news with the fiat exchange(s). i will definetely support this projects once they go live. Cant wait for the day once i am able to leave poloniex.

i want to offer my help, i can test this kind of applications. i worked many years in quality assurance industry and i still am as a testmanager, supervising several trading applications.

if you develop one of these projects, do not hesistate to contact me. i only have limited time since i work a lot too, but i can promise you it will help you having me klicking through it.

i work for free of course + i can not make security testing

btw about price: maybe we go a little bit lower, 150 sounds ok but still somehow difficult to imagine. i try to keep some powder dry but its difficult for me Smiley

Which fiat exchange are you talking about?

I personally know of 3 plans, one of which is this month, second one is during summer, third is later this year. All by reputable people that I know (separate people in each Wink ) In addition I am starting a XMR fund myself but I am legendary slow in action so don't buy just yet based on this alone  Grin

The reason why this is upwards pressure is that non-BTC owners (99% of the investor population) have not been able to invest before, but now they can.

Yes, please do not act fast. Let me accumulate first.  Grin
In my accumulation I am not interested in buying in bumps and causing a bump so I am buying only modest amounts at time + trying to lend some coins (which is hard nowdays as nobody seems to short monero).

Cryptsy should be online with XMR by the 1st September. All new exchanges, fiat or otherwise, can only be a good thing.

What's the latest in regards to this Chinese translation? I think we had gotten 600-800 XMR or so, but needed an organiser...?

I'm sure a token organiser's fee could be factored into the bounty.

iirc, so far we've only pooled xmr without any decision of the details what parts of getmonero.org are going to be translated.

if we want to get the whole site translated it might be indeed better to get some more information up since some pages are still lacking content.

if people want to create the needed content and send to me, I can format into markdown. THis bitcoin guide might be a good one to use as template.

Then we can translate.

hooray off topic

Care to reveal where you'd get this info? I hope it is true though, more exchanges means more awareness and easier access to buying Moneroj.

Juxtaposed against the rumor that Cryptsy was imminently adopting XMR as part of it's interface upgrade, Horus (of Cryptsy) since confirmed (circa mid-June) that ETA is approx 1-2 months, but less than 3.

Cryptsy and ETA's.. I have to see that trading pair before I believe it Tongue

In addition to getmonero.org, moneroinvestment.com (under construction) should be translated. It is quite little content, so should be easy.

But it is not going to be an easy surge. The current price is well established and we have resistance at 235, 250, 290. Based on this, it does not make sense to buy for short-term speculation. The time for that is only after these hurdles are cleared. Therefore, I envision that the range-bound trading continues until one of the sides is thoroughly exhausted.

It is easier to exhaust the sellers though, all we need is some new money Wink

Many ppl responded to the bounty what is a good thing but it seems we are bounded by the technical side: http://forum.getmonero.org/6/ideas/317/translating-getmonero-org?page=&noscroll=1#post-1359

I personally disagree, I really don't see a fiat exchange causing much upwards pressure other than an initial excuse for a small pump when it is 'announced' or 'released'.

Added emphasis Smiley
This is a super good news!!
It will also help to decouple the price from XBT movements & crowd mood, and help price discovery of XMR by itself.
