Woke up to this and actually laughed; it was a wind-up, as we who speak an earlier version of this global language would say.

And I understand what he felt he needed to prove.

It is not a 'black swan', nor is it 'theft'

However, I think my own feelings are summed up by cAPSLOCKS's earlier post.

......

But I would say it is more apt than clever.

It's foolish and reckless, and possibly gives ammo to the trolls, yes.  But from the guy who says 'Don't buy Monero' it is probably to be expected and since I really do believe he profited in any way - at least he hasn't sold his soul.

We should have known he wasn't the type to tweet an 'upcoming announcement' and he probably shouldn't have done it.

But it does make Monero a little different and it does teach us not to worship 'the great leader'.  He isn't working for the price, he is working for the project and is not bound to please anyone.  So we must bear in mind we cannot expect anything different in future.

Yesterday's news, today's chip paper.  Let's move on, Monero is still a great project.

Stop talking BS. Every coin gets several pumps and dumps daily, even hourly. Same is for Monero.
Sooo many new faces that suddenly appeared judging Monero. People like you are many many in bctalk. This guy has a newbie rank and has never posted in Monero thread 24h ago. Now suddenly posted 6 times blaming Monero devs. LOL. Come on. At least try to look reliable when you play the "moon / doom" game of your coin vs the competition's coin that "by accident" is the man of the hour and always will be.

I registered in 2014 imbecile. I do not post often but considering I had more than 50000$ worth in XMR I felt kinda concerned about what happened.

There are legitimate insider trading suspicion in XMR and the devs are part of it.
Like it or not that's the truth.

This is my first time to witness such announcement from FP or any big name related to any financial instruments.
But I clearly got the point and lessons from it.
  • There's no major hyping/marketing in Monero
  • What just happened even fortified Monero's "trustless system"
  • I should have trusted my technical analysis and sold some at the top, then bought back lower. My tiny stash just swung to amounts that made me awake a few hours last night
  • FP is looking/trying-hard to be an A-hole. Well, try harder because I got the serious message clearly

Polo volume today 10K BTC, buy side up, sell side down.

This looks good, less for sale, more want to buy - any news and it will blow ;-)

Is it worth stealing (out date) posts from others to up your post count?

There have been a huge sell-off from 55$ to 50$ about 45 minutes before the "announcement".

Everybody on thread noticed it :
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.19181780

Same on Polo trollbox. People were wondering why this sudden dump.
Now you know.

Seems that lot of people was aware of the pump prank and took advantage of it.
FluffyPonzi and the Monero core members that are defending him have to leave.

We don't want to see you in the project anymore. You are scammers or defending a scammer.
That includes "smooth" and "gingeropoulous" or whatever his name is.

Same for the "whalepanda" asshole. He knew about the fake pump.
Don't know about the other members of Monero team. They could potentially all be involved.

Ptuh. You bastards.

He has a duty of care

No, he has not. All imagined by others.

Yeah, all those videos, tweets, press releases, conferences....it was all a dream, like Dallas.

You are free to invest and to choose your own Messias.

Maybe you are right to be angry. But obligation he has not.

Monero 100m$ market volume lol. 2 days ago I wrote :
So my sell target of 100$ is coming sooner than I thought, hmm. I am still not ready to be rich. Slow down a bit guys.
The price was then 40$ and now it is 46$ and everybody is complaining about. WTF?? Slow it down a bit. I expected 100$ in like 2-3 years not tomorrow - relax people. I know you want to please me with the 100$ pro XMR but calm down a bit. We need patience too.  Monero is half a year older than like most of the altcoins. Lets take darkcoin scam as example - we are now where they were 3 months ago. Calm down. And btw this was the message that the smartest guy I know meant. Stop the bs comments already

Long term holders have nothing to complain about.

I disagree with this, infact I'd say its long term holders who are most effected.  We're the ones whose capital has been tied up because we believe in the project/technology.   We have waited through the good times and bad.  But apparently thats not enough, we also have to tie ourselves in knots with this sort of cretinish behaviour.

Is it any wonder regulators and the like want to stamp down on crypto, we hardly provide a strong argument for self-regulation nevermind laissez faire.

 Shocked Shocked Shocked

I found this on Reddit right now:

It seems like Paxos, which is creating a blockchain for institutional gold trading (https://www.paxos.com/repository/euroclear-bankchain-service-processes-100000-gold-settlements), is incorporating Monero tech into its Bankchain. If that is so, it would be like how JP Morgan is implementing Zcash tech into its Quorum blockchain.

Also, bearing in mind that Jimmy Song is employed by Paxos (https://eng.paxos.com/author/jimmy-song-principal-blockchain-architect) as a Blockchain Architect and the Monero code he's writing is under the Paxos Github repository (https://github.com/paxos-bankchain/moneroutil)

Huge banks like Citi, Société Générale will use XMR tech.

The JPMorgan News pushed Zcash over 200 USD! Yet it seems we have our JPMorgan now.

This is Cryptocurrency. This is absolute Wild West. Dude owes you Nothing.

If a crypto gangster kidnapped his wife and locked her up in a Fritzl cellar gargling balls all day long, do you think Spagni would rest easy that he didn't owe anybody anything?

Spagni has her picture on his twitter account ffs, who would do this, having done that ... don't nerds like Spagni realise how many gangsters there are in this space, they don't tweet when they're pissed off, they cut off ears and noses.

He owes them $100 million.

That is not pretend money.  He intentionally set fire to other peoples money in the name of his ideals.

Sorry, I can't agree. People have to take responsibility for their own trading. You get it wrong, you lose.

If you want safety rails, and an 'everybody wins' mentality, crypto (at least crypto trading) is not for you.

If you didn't try to profit by day trading the announcement (and if you were doing that you realize you were trying fuck someone else out of money right?), then it affected you hardly at all. The price is up significantly from two days ago. Long term holders have nothing to complain about.

Sorry. I'm with cAPSLOCK on this one. I didn't buy when I heard the rumour... but I sure as hell sold when I heard the news. And not just a little. i sold the entire stash that wasn't out on loan... and when the loans are up, they XMR I had there is going too.

As a 'spokesman, for the project, his words carry weight. He has a duty of care and he deliberately trashed a lot of goodwill with a lot of people. This just shows a level of immaturity that he either doesn't understand or at worst, deliberately played on to profit from.

I am very glad the crypto market is self regulating and allows smaller players to play with small amounts of money. I also hope that this stupid prank doesn't give ammunition to TPTB to find an excuse to close our unregulated playground and make the requirements too onerous for exchanges to continue as they are.

Which ever way you polish this particular PR turd, it remains defiantly a turd.

Even if so, this event is highly overrated and as soon as everybody gets it, we can move on.

What is there to 'get'?

This situation reminds me of a guy called Gerald Ratner -- in the 70 and 80s he had a large chain of jewellers across the UK built up over decades and worth millions.  He catered for the low end of the market lets say cheap and cheerful. In an interview with some periodical he casually let slip that the jewellery his shops sold was 'mainly crap', which it was, everyone knew.  He didn't mean anything malicious by it, he was just being honest. But the quote was jumped on and became front page news.

And that slip cost him his empire - the entire chain (no pun) was worthless within 12 months/two years and he spent his remaining life haunted by that quote.

Business and investment is often run on the magic known as sentiment.

Hhhmmm, I'm not so sure about all of the apologies and rationales for this ludicrous behaviour.

We seem to be moving the goalposts from 'we are above all this tawdry marketing and PR' to 'our PR is so counter-intuitive it is unforgettable and brilliant'.

It seems more likely we have witnessed someone under intense pressure have a very public meltdown.

Which ever way you polish this particular PR turd, it remains defiantly a turd.
