Dashboards have been moved to server with higher RAM. 600M on free GCloud micro instance was not enough. There was about 20 minute downtime between 15:00 and 15:20 UTC, new address is http://35.192.6.83:3000/

Now to ensure that we always have enough funds for the server and POTENTIAL insurance, those who use the pool for group rentals such as but not limited to willi9974 and ailikun could start a "trend" of say 1% of whatever they collect for each round goes to the pool wallet.

My 2 sats

Sorry guys, my family was hit by this corona-covid shit, so I've been away for a few days.
Glad to see, that everything is going well, and we now have a new server.

We will definitely try to donate a fraction, from our solo rounds.
And if we find a block too.

Such a great community we have in this topic.

Yeah counting my wife 6 cousins have had it. We are blessed that we all recovered.

This would be the address to give to

https://btc1.trezor.io/address/1F8JWHPVt2FzxeAyPDUP4hmeRPweJZEFYj

every little bit helps.

I hope you and your family get better from the covid-19

These specs can probably handle 5 more pools lol, but we do need them, after all the chance of hitting a block is already too slim to be risked, i support his decision for migrating to a server which is capable of doing more that what we need it to do rather than trying to save a few bucks for a server that could fail us, no room for errors here, let's see when do we hit a block on the new server.

Given that the new server hosting the mining pool has a 1 gigabit line, I'm curious to know how much network bandwidth a pool would need to operate reliably. There's a similar question in this thread but it was never answered.
Entirely dependent on the number of unique miners connected, so impossible to say.

another reason is there will be 10 of thousands of s9's on the cheap.

I looked at the BM page for an S9 and found them for 63$.  Shocked
Now I know what you mean.

I understood what was going on my miners that was showing only "DEAD" in their status!!!when i transfered solo configuration into secondry line in my miners(pool2) then it was alived!!!does anyone know why my miners configuration page's first line(pool1)no accept pools?

Your miner probably needed a reboot or a restart for cgminer, if you save the first pool and reboot after that i am sure it will work as long as you are not making any mistakes in the url and btc address.

Also, if you had a space (empty space) before the url by mistake, that would also cause it.  Really common mistake when copy/pasting a url into the configuration page.

okey, very thanks.i will try solo4 and solo6 and will report its result here.perhaps others can use.
dont you have any idea about the DIFF boxes that are blank in my miners status?

Edition:i tried solo4.ckpool and solo6.ckpool but my configs are dead yet!

As a report my miners works very wel with other pools like Poolin,ViaBtc,and...but could not work with solo.ckpool.i think my miners and router dont have any problem.dear c.k. please check this again.thank you

another reason is there will be 10 of thousands of s9's on the cheap.

I have developed quiet cheap modded 2 board s9's that can mine here. use 400 watts and do 4.7th quietly

So having a space heater first mining here its a dirt cheap way of a chance at big money.

Space heater down clocked s9's can be made for 100 or less they will last for years.

My two board pulls 377 watts.

I owned the s9 already the modes were about 13 dollars.

so 13 dollars and .03 btc is about 300 dollars. {I donated 0.03 btc}

1 year of 400 watt mining is about  10 x 365 =3650 kwatts at 15 cents = 550 a year.

550+300 = 850 for a 1 year shot at 6.25 btc

the miner is quiet.  it will help add warmth in the winter.

I am running the quiet s9 over night.

If i manage to hit a block i will pay for 3 years server subscription and donate a handsome amount to ck, and of course will buy those who donated a few drinks.

To those who are curious as to what the donations bought for this pool, and also to the geeks among us who are naturally curious about such things—if I'm not mistaken, and hopefully with his permission to post this, -ck used the money to migrate the pool to this beast of a machine. Here are its specs:

ProviderOVH US LLC
TypeDedicated server
LocationVint Hill, Virginia, USA
ProcessorIntel Xeon E-2274G Processor (8M Cache, 4.00 GHz)
Memory32GB DDR4 ECC 2666MHz
Storage3 x 4 TB HDD SATA Soft RAID or 2 x 960 GB SSD NVMe Soft RAID
Public bandwidth1 Gbps unmetered (burst 2 Gbps)

-ck wasn't kidding when he said that the new server is "massively overqualified for the task now." I think that that's a colossal understatement, and even more so if he went with the NVMe SSD variant.

Spot on, and yes I'm using the SSD NVMe Raid array since we don't need the extra storage, but speed is everything. Raid 1 gives us some redundancy in the event of SSD drive failure but not real backup which is serious overkill for a pool that has no state information that matters. No I don't mind it being posted as this is a community funded project so best to keep everything above board. Once the blockchain gets to over 800GB we'll outgrow it, but that doesn't look like it'll happen anytime soon, and we'll probably move to yet another new server with even more up to date hardware then, assuming this pool is still in action (which appears likely.)

sigh nevermind - I dont think anyone can understand my question.

I will state it one more time (already have at least half a dozen times) I do not have any issue with people donating to a pool.

I am simply asking why would they? Is there an incentive for them? do they get a lower fee? do they get part of the pool profits?

I am not being hateful or spiteful - but quite a few here are - telling me to shut up, calling me a troll etc etc.

again - was curious if there was some benefit to contributing or what not.

Relax folks and mine on!

also @phil easy brother! Again I have no issues - as for the renting of hash - it matters nothing to the pool does it? rented hash is the same as non-rented hash - the pool gets their cut when a block is found so rented hash is also to the pool operators benefit as much as it is to the benefit of those that rent it (well if a block is found, right?)

Again - let's lose the anger folks! if my questions offend - realize this, they were not intended to - and ease up a bit. Smile too - you will live longer  Smiley

My post Read nasty internet does that.  A lot of people thought your post read nasty.  It is why wars happen in real life.

Why do I want a solo pool. Okay lets change it a bit more.

If you went back in time and looked at all the bitminter posts I did I always wanted a solo pool for miners that I considered to be run by someone that can be trusted.

I am stupid and a moron kano will tell you that if you ask him. So I can't do the technical running of a pool.  I can organize people to get together. We have collected enough fees to run a pool from an honest provider.

The issue with solo mining it we go six months without a block sometimes longer. ½ the hash is rental.

A solo pool is more of a service. Then a pool.

I can solo mine with antpool and i can not verify a block hit by me if I hit one.
I can solo mine  with viabtc and I can not verify a block hit by me if I hit one.

I can solo mine with ck and verify  BLOCK HIT BY ME IF I HIT ONE.

If I hire a server like ck did and ask him to hold my hand to set it up my fees to him are more then 50 an hour as he is an it/core/software guy.
my fees to hire the server are 1600 a year.
say 400 to hire ck to set it up.

2000 for me to run solo on a good server setup.

plus  my money spent on hash or rental.

I spend under 1000 a year on solo.

so why spend  2000 for a proper set up to spend 1000 on hash.

that is the money sense of chipping in here. vs setting a proper one up for ones self.

... the community wanted the same pool to continue as effectively a community-funded project but with me running it so they all forked out to make it happen which made me happy to continue running it.

Thanks guys.

I think the answer has been laid out for you. I did not ask for the pool's running fees, and I definitely did not ask for donations.I was planning to close the pool because I was making nothing from it, yet I was exposing myself to risk because I took it upon myself to be open about issues that I had with the pool. However the community wanted the solo pool to continue so I said I would keep it open as a not-for-profit community pool with a seriously trimmed down version of the existing hardware (and in one location only.) The community then said they wanted better hardware/location etc. and I said I couldn't afford that but they all offered to chip in and pay for it. The pool fee will amount to 2% of probably 1 maybe 2 blocks per year. I wouldn't want to maintain a pool with the time, effort, and heartache that provides, with it not even covering the cost of running but they all offered to pay for it because they wanted it. I don't mind maintaining a not-for-profit pool if I'm not paying out of my pocket for it, nor exposing myself to risk by running it. Not many pool operators would give a quote for how much their server costs to run and expose all their code for free to the public, in addition to running it for no profit. The 2% fee would be some recompense for my time - I even offered to remove the fee entirely but they all insisted I leave it and perhaps increase it. I've said before I don't need donations, and I still don't. The community support is the only reason I decided to keep the pool running. It IS fun to run a pool for the community.

So long story short, once upon a time the solo pool was partly run for fun, and partly for me to make profit, and it stopped making profit more than a couple of years ago. I decided to therefore close it down, but the community wanted the same pool to continue as effectively a community-funded project but with me running it so they all forked out to make it happen which made me happy to continue running it.

Very nice statement for all your affort over the years! Just have to thank you!!! And i'm due to donate some bucks to phil's escrow adress  Wink

Thank You!

@Stryfe, I understand your question, it's a legit one, the way you asked it was not perfect IMO, hence the replies you got  Grin, but by all means, the question is pretty legit.

Let me give you a different answer, running a solo pool is not profitable, the proof is even antpool stopped their solo pool last year, who else would we trust ? the only alternative I can think of would be bsod.pw, i had a few (none btc) blocks that were paid, sadly no BTC block was ever found by them, so hard to know if their BTC solo even works, the other options are pretty hard to trust.

Mining solo is risky, the pool can lie to you about anything, it would be hard to prove anything against them, so you need to trust the pool operator, for obvious reasons most of us trust CK, now regardless of how much BTC he owns, why would he run a losing business? no incentives to do that, if I was him, I would shut the pool down, but we suggested that maybe we can donate to keep the pool up and running and he agreed, so we actually pay to get a decent solo pool which is owned by a trusted person who will not steal the block and say oh sorry something went wrong, go figure.

This is more like supply and demand, if we had a better option, nobody would have bothered with the pool going offline, but since this is a great pool which we all love, we decided to keep it alive, so miners are happy and CK is happy, all good.

agreed. and thanks for at least trying to understand the question - so many on here automatically assume everything is an attack - so if it is not worded perfectly or asked the way they like questions asked - which varies by every single person lol - then its auto attack mode. But I never once said it was bad or that no one should do it though people kept asking me why I said those things lol

either way thank you for providing your view.
