IMO, if you said reluctant to sell Yolodice to other people, it would be great if you never give a little hope for them to tell them pm/email you their offer since you will decline it.
Or atleast tell them how much mininum amount you want to accept so they won't spam your email with their offers (if you changed your mind and would sell Yolodice)

Here's my thinking: YOLOdice is not for sale. Definitely not to a random unknown buyer. I can image a few scenarios in which I would consider selling YOLOdice, but I don't think it would be an easy process. As you can imagine, it's not just about the money.

Since people are withdrawing I can hear a lot of complains about withdrawal fees. It's been something I've been fighting with since day 1. BitcoinCore fee estimations suck in a big way - for some reason the developers have chosen the worst possible way to do it, based on historical data and not the current state of mempool. I've been trying to use external services (btc.com) for fees, but this ended pretty badly because their API was very unstable. Since I am not fanatic about improving BTC I did not want to dig into the actual BC code and fix it, so we have to live with that for a few more days :-/

Edit: replaced "fanatic" with "not fanatic". sorry about the confusion.

I have to admin that what you are saying is highly inspiring to me. The decision about suspending is final, so that did not change my mind, but damn, [/b]YOU GUYS ARE GREAT[/b].

I am getting tons of emails from "potential buyers" about YOLOdice, and let's make it clear: our intention is NOT to sell it. Especially not for 1 BTC, as offered by one of such "buyers".

As you noted earlier, there is a matter of reputation - the new owner would basically have to start building his reputation from ground, and there is a pretty long way from that to accepting investments.

On the other hand I strongly believe that what makes YOLOdice reputable is 1. people that run it, 2. people that support it, 3. people that use it. There is a huge value in the package (1+2+3), not necessarily in the separate pieces.

Suspending YOLOdice is not THE end. It's the end of something, but come on - there are less and less people who want to deposit coins if transaction fees are over $10, and coins themselves are increasing in value even if you don't gamble them.

I respect Dooglus for closing JD and switching from BTC to CLAM - it was a sort of solution to keep the game rolling, but detach the value of the tokens from BTC.

YOLOdice might actually come back in the future (that's why I am reluctant to sell it), but in a different form.

Cheers,
Ethan

PS. If you really want to buy YOLOdice, please spare me some nerves and don't offer 1 BTC for it :-)
1 BTC for YOLOdice! That would be a nice post in r/choosingbeggars Tongue

I'm curious, when you come back (if ever), will you run YOLOdice as how you run it. About the currency that is using, do you consider also changing or accept bets using other cryptocurrencies like CLAM?
If you happen to made your come back, I'll be wanting to invest some to the bankroll.
If it happen that someone bought the site, I hope it's on good hands.

WTF what they are thinking lol, how that buyer think that he  can buy a reputable site with great user base for just 1 BTC only, sounds funny offer to me maybe the people who offered that thinks that he can grab your site for cheap price and earn richest from it.

And good decision not to sell it since first it's crazy decision to do and 2nd he might use your site for scamming.

I was only a recent member on Yolodice, but it is always sad news when reputable sites suspend/close down. After luckyb.it this is already the 2nd casino in a short amount of time that ceases operations.

Good luck with your future adventure!

Temporary forum vacation
I missed the news on the weekend, and what can I say to you guys, Scott and Ethan, and those managing the campaign. I joined both as a player, investor and supporter, so am probably among the saddest to see you go,,, it was for a very long time with great pride that I carried everything I did for Yolo.

But I only can say: thank you for the journey we made together. Thank you for the memories, and thank you for being part of this ecosystem. For those of us who have been in crypto for some years, we all know that dice has played a huge part in bringing the industry to where we are now. Everything you guys did, in some small way contributes to the incredible milestone for Bitcoin and crypto in general.

As you say ethan and as I always say in all my discussions,,, we hear about brands and big names in the space some take their spotlight in crypto fame, but people always forget that what makes these big ideas work is people who USE. Not just the hodlers and the speculators but those who quietly build support and actually use. We spent our time and our lives just doing these small things that hold up the foundations of crypto.

May we all one day come together again with Yolodice:) Small world and small time,,, all are memories and all are fabric of Bitcoin history.

I wish the best for Ethan and Scott and to all of those people that are part of Yolodice.com. It's a sad moment when a known dice site goes. Still, you have made yolodice as one of the most known dice site and made its reputation known by most.

Every gambling site has got a reason for its running as well as for its closing. During the previous year the world experienced the big lockdown and people started to operate online, but during the same time period the number of gambling sites that have closed is more. All the gambling sites that came to an end were trusted ones.

Yolodice is one among the trusted platform that dedicatedly working on dice games. Anyhow it is a big news to the gamblers who prefer dice more than any other games. All the best for you guys, do good and things will happen good.

When I was starting here on the forum I already saw the Yolodice and also their campaign and my dream is to join to their signature and to try their investment on their platform and now got this news that the yolodice will suspend, upon visiting again the website there is a note that feels me sad but we can't do anything I salute for the four years of yolodice we are looking forward this will be back soon as possible. There is another good platform fallen.

I am surprised they close the website and didn't sell it to the new owner. he doing a good reputation and make Yolodice name stay trusted.

maybe they want to preserve the reputation on their own , because having new owner assures them nothing if the company will be took care or will be abused , yeah it is not their problem anymore but seeing your hardwork and legacy comes to desperation ? that would hurt you a lot.
so if they can manage to let the company sleeps under their name then better to be at it.

Thanks for all the warm words! What you said, and reaction of people in the Chat almost made me change my mind :-)

But seriously, I am not saying "never", so maybe YD will have it's comeback. I just don't know yet.

THANK YOU! It's really hard to express how much I will miss YD, and how much I am happy for these 4 years - it was really fun. But as I hinted in the explanation, the real-world value of coins are kind of killing the fun. Not to mention the crazy transaction fees that kill the fun completely for smaller players.

No worries, I cannot stand doing just nothing, so I'll probably come back with something new. Maybe a distributed, consensus-based, verifiable game?

Thanks again, I'll stick around!
Cheers,
Ethan

Sad to see one of the last few dice sites go :\

You guys had an awesome run, looking forward to seeing your next big project

A great site is leaving, but leaves the doors open for a possible return, they may be studying the multiple ways to avoid high fees, you can even create a project based on tokens.

For this same problem, some sites chose to have XRP, BNB to lower the price of their fees. I know that everything will work out, a great platform with such success must come back with more strength.

but we are suspending YOLOdice on 1st March 2021

Ethan, I wish all the best for you. I was part of yolodice signature campaign for more than a year, it was an amazing time.

Yolodice is an amazing service, and I know that it is no easy task to keep it running. Enjoy your retirement, and I am sure it was an amazing professional  experience.

Cryptocurrency world will certainly miss such a professional casino.

That is the thing about early bitcoin adopters: Too much risky, too much innovation, and that really pays off after a few years.

Congratulations! I hope I will retire in a few months/years as well!!

I know you will be back Ethan.
You can't just kill your baby like that. Yolodice has just grown up and it needs to be let go.  Grin
It's mixed happiness and sadness for ending this great dicing website but most of us respect your decision.

May you have a blessed rest for a while and I am sure you will create another baby in just a short span of time.
God bless you.
