I would definitely go with ethereum at the moment. It’s not because i lost my trust in bitcoin but because growth speed of ethereum will probably be better this year.

5 years is quite a long time. Perhaps dividing the money 50-50 is the best solution.

Of course ten cryptonet etherium is better than one bitcoin, I think by the end of 2018 we will see a price of 2000 dollars.
In my opinion, the etherium is a more promising crypto coin than bitcoin. All crypto projects basically take the etherium, this crypto coin has a brilliant future.
I prefer to ETH because a lot of bounty that payment using ETH.

I would go to 10 Ethereum. although ethereum price is slowly going up, i am sure it will reach also to 3000 usd to 5000 usd in the near future. Mostly ico's are using Ethereum as there base payment, also Erc20 token are increasingly rapidly. Therefore i would invest in ethereum rather bitcoin now because the price is to high now.
Etherum is widely used by various projects as well as platforms, this is what makes Etherum more widely used. In contrast to Bitcoin because bitcoin is more widely used to perform various financial transactions. For Etherum investment does show the opportunity to give us a considerable profit in the future, but Bitcoin also have the same opportunity. I will choose both and divide the portion by a uniform count. I will take the opportunity of both, I want to be able to take success and I want to live happily from the decision that I take. 
10 eth is better because i can see that Eth is Pumping in this year while Bitcoin is

10 eth is great if you have it or invest, because eth is very profitable in year to year. the price is fast growing.

With $3000 to invest, is there any advantages to either, with the expectations/hopes that they both will continue to grow? Just trying to see what others would do, as I plan to let this initial investment sit for 5yrs minimum in a cold wallet.

Both choices will give you good grounds for profit of your investment. Especially that your investment is planned for five years in minimum, you are well groomed to be receiving a good deal of gains in the future. In a year's time, Ethereum or Bitcoin will assure you at least x5 growth. That is the least it could give you. It might even go much higher. If I were you, divide your investment in two and invest one part for Bitcoin and the other in Ethereum.
For the market like this. Better buying 10 ethereum than 1 bitcoin. Especially ethereum hard fork is near and when ethereum move to proof of stake and we need ethereum for staking. I predict ethereum price could goes up break $2000 mark when casper launch or one month after casper launch.

I agree, I'd say we better split 50:50 for BTC and ETH.. both are a good investment for the future..
But if you ask me to choose, I think ETH would probably give more benefit in the future, as ETH showed a better performance in this early days of 2018

You've got yourself a fine money out there, be sure to invest in a wise way. Well if I would choose between the two, it would probably Bitcoin. It's tested and proven, congested network traffic or not, still many people have high hopes for it, the mainstream is. I am not saying that eth has no chance of getting higher or even over taking BTC, but I just feel that BTC is a wise one to have in your wallet.
