I would buy an ETH for $ 3K instead of bitcoin. Now the price of ETH-BTC has significantly decreased. And unfortunately, all crypto-currencies are falling. Prophesy mad recession course bitcoin. If btc falls, the price of ETH will do the same. Or maybe it's better to take a piece of bitcoin and a pair of ETH?
Bitcoin is the major and first crypto currency that is trending all round the crypto market, ETH is another growing coin out there too with good potentials for the future, which can also be seen as an alternative to bitcoin. As you are making your investment for a long run of 5years and putting it on a cold storage wallet, ETH will be good, cause it's price is rising gently, and for a 5 years run, it will be a good investment.
But, I will say splitting your investment for them both, for this long run will be more profitable, than putting all for one.

If you bought Bitcoin, it could be more profitable. The price of Ethereum did not go up. Last year's forecast was $ 2500, but not even close.
I think it is better to keep 10 ETH than 1 BTC. The Ethereum is very promising altcoin. I think that the capitalization ETH will soon have more capitalization of BTC.

Both coins are good for a long term investment and with minimum risk. But I'd choose BTC - 20%, ETH - 20%, other only perspective coins from top 200 - 40% and 10% to new coins from ICO with Hard cap goal.

If it's a long term investment then I suggest you to buy 1 BTC. But if you want to cash out this year then probably 10 ETH would be a better choice. Many people predict that 2018 will be a good year for Ethereum because it is used more and more for various smart contracts and ICO projects, so it is likely that ETH will rise more than Bitcoin in 2018.

I agree with you, though btc is the mother of other altcoins, But there are so nany drawbacks including high transfer fee and low speed. So I think ETH is more promising.
