Its not only altcoins but cryptocurrency in general is in a bad state right now. As I can remember when bitcoin was in its peak all other coins were also carried along. A lot has benefitted from their long held altcoins as well as their ICO tokens too. I’m hopeful those seasons will happen again before this year ends. I don't know about that, the only time that the market has been good for altcoins has been the bull in the beginning of the year, now the coins are all struggling. But I do think that the coins have all gained a lot of exposure this year due to the bull.
