Yeah, and just imagine if the Warriors won against the Mavs, but then with that win, the Mavs moves up and bump down Phoenix. So it's going to be a crazy ending in the Western conference in the last 5-7 remaining games this season.

The wild Western Conference is amid unpredictable matches and it's best to consider that the number 6 and 9 teams are already in the playoffs but they still have unexpected outcomes in their remaining games. As we all see, the Lakers are not giving up easy games these days and they using their remaining games for a chance to climb further up they have a high chance to do that since they are all healthy and giving it all their best to secure their spot. I wonder how will it turn up if they win against all their remaining games and the others lose it somehow, this is a crucial phase now and everyone's eyes are on the West right now since the East is more likely already settled.

With the Pelicans and Kings losing earlier, the Lakers can snatch the 8th seed tonight if they win against the Cavaliers. The Pelicans lose to the Spurs, and with that loss, the Pelicans' record is 45-332, 1 game behind the Kings and the Lakers.

Yeah, that's what I'm talking about. If the Lakers could win their last 5 games, they'd for sure secure the 7th or 8th seed considering the Kings and the Pelicans will lose a couple of more games from the remainder of the season.
Now, it looks like the Lakers last 5 games isn't against an opponent whom they have a record of lossing against them. I think the Cavs is the only team that's tougher to deal with than the rest of the other 4 team the Lakers is about to face.  This is getting interesting, but nothing is more interesting if the Lakers and the Warriors will face each other in the play ins.

While in the East, the 10th spot belongs to the Hawks. And it just shows how the West team is right now, no offense to those who are Eastern teams, but having a tie on the first spot and then the 6th-10th spot teams are juggling for their position is just insane.

Consider how good James Harden is, he had an MVP season, and he almost beat that unbeatable looking Warriors team, he almost averaged triple double as well, and he has been all around an easy hall of famer without a doubt. And dude has 25k points 6k rebounds and 7k assists, only the fourth player who has ever done it, whereas LEBRON HAS 40K 10K 10K!! Can you imagine how insane that is, like we are talking about a person who is amazing at passing, also leading the league in scores all time ever.

Lebron could be considered to have 3 different Hall of fame careers easily, that's just insane. His first Clevland stint was easily hall of fame, his Miami years had 2 titles and 2fmvp so it was definitely hall of fame, and the part since he returned to Clevland plus Lakers together is another one. Dude is insane.

Guys, I just notice that the 1st seed spot on Western conference is tie. This is my first time noticing a tie on the top spot. Assuming their score will be tie at the end of the regular season how does NBA decides who will get the spot.

Is there a tie breaker match or other stats basis to determine who will get the spot.

Warriors is close to securing their spot against Rockets because they are now on lose streak after their good run to steal the last spot for the play-in tournament against Warriors.

There is a set of tie breaks that the league has preset.  First and what usually determines the difference is the head to head matchups.  Whoever won more against the other team gets the spot ahead.  It's used fairly often and I think it's pretty fair since it only involves the 2 teams.  The problem that comes up is in a situation where 3 or more teams are tied for a certain place. Either way a simple Google search will show ypu all the tie break rules

[...]The defensive play was right, double Curry, rotate the defense, and Klay had a hard time to set his feet for the last shot so he missed it.
No doubt that was a good defense but the bad inbound pass from Paul started this. It disrupted Curry's rhythm somehow and the delay from the extra ball bounce also allowed the Irving to help in time.

There are plenty of tie breakers. The first to be looked at is their head-to-head record for the season. Wolves is currently ranked no. 1 since they are leading the H2H matchup by two games to one. The next criteria is their standings in their own division. https://ak-static-int.nba.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2017/06/NBA_Tiebreaker_Procedures.pdf

Good information. I was going to answer with only the head to head record but you took it a step further. Always great to share information with others so we can all be aware of the finer points in the game. This is why *some* matchups during the regular season actually get players to give their max effort. Although it doesn’t happen often.

The Pelicans lose to the Spurs, and with that loss, the Pelicans' record is 45-332, 1 game behind the Kings and the Lakers. Kings, on the other hand, did manage to get close in the closing minutes, but still, the Celtics managed to win the game, 101-100. Those games for Pelicans and Kings are important since they are in the play-in spot, so every game should be a win since they are chasing the places. 7th and 8th seeds are much better seeds in the play-in since it will give you comfortability.

Speaking of the Lakers, they are now tied with the Kings with a record of 44-43. If they manage to win the game against the Cavs, they will be sitting in the 8th spot. Lakers and Cavs are both healthy, so we can see a great matchup today, and if the Lakers manage to win all the remaining games, they can be at the 7th or 6th seed at best.

Yeah, with the current standing Lakers can take that position if they will continue winning their remaining games, just like what I've read in some social media channel where LeBron said tha the focus is to keep winning, just one win at the time and they will see decent outcome, the game between Cavs and Lakers might be interesting as each teams that have decent chance to move to the second rounds,

will surely do everything that they can to win the games, position is very important I guess one of the reason why Lakers needs the wins to secure the playoffs spot.

I know, I know that many here are talking about the Mavericks winning against the Warriors, and it's been a long time since we've been talking about the Warriors, that we forgot how awful the Milwaukee Bucks are ever since Doc Rivers handled the team.

The Bucks are 15-16 ever since Doc Rivers became their head coach. What's worse is that, they've lost twice against a G-league team in Grizzlies. You know what's worse than that? They lost 3 straight games already and all of those 3 area against bottom teams. They lost to the Washington, Memphis, and the recent is the Toronto which nobody is also talking here, but they lost their last 15 games before winning against the Bucks.

I mean, many considered them as the team to beat ever since they got Lillard because many thought that Dame is the answer for them to get another title, but with how they played on the last 3 games, I already have doubts. How they can be a playoff contender on the playoffs when they can't even win against 3 bottom teams. Their lucky that the other top Eastern teams lost as well or they might be out of the top 2 spot already. Aside from that, I'm also thinking "What if they didn't fire AJ Griffin at first place? Will the Bucks be a better team now?" What are your expectations towards the Milwaukee Bucks on the post-season?

PJ Washington Jr.!!! Yeah! Step up your game!

Dallas Mavericks won against the Golden State Warriors in a teeth-clenching game. PJ scored 32 tonight and the last basket was made by him so I guess he is the hero for the Mavs. Good defense against Steph Curry too avoiding that three-point shot because he was damn hot and he had been scoring the last possessions for the Warriors.
The defensive play was right, double Curry, rotate the defense, and Klay had a hard time to set his feet for the last shot so he missed it.

Good win for the Mavs even without Luka. Kai being a leader is so fun to watch, I really like how is playing when he went to the Mavs. 13 wins out of 15. So strong.

If we can always see him consistent even at least 20 points per game, that would be so helpful with the team in the playoffs. Luka was out but Irving was there, that's the best thing when you have 2 star players in the team and everyone is playing with good chemistry. PJ Washington has been quite in the past few games but he stepped up when it's necessary, great win by the Mavs, and with that win they are now ranked at number 5 behind the Clippers.

I think that's what good for a good player like PJ Washington and probably that's why they got him in the first place. Probably his best game as a Mavs player, and again when superstars are out, someone will have to step up.

West in the last couple of games are still very tight and it's really hard to comprehend that this 4 teams will have to contend for the play-in wherein they are all great teams and we hate seeing 2 teams being booted out this season. Luka is producing MVP numbers and we want to see him in the playoff, but same with the Lakers and the Warriors.

Lakers has been doing pretty well, they could finish at number 7 if they continue winning, but the Warriors I think it will be tough for them but it's good if they will not have a do or die with the Lakers in the 9 and 10 slot. I hope the Warriors will advance and they will get a 7 and 8 ranking, and that means the Pelicans and Kings will miss the playoffs.

It's gettign closer so I'm expecting that the Warriors will give everything they have to be at least at the number 8 rank so in case they'll lose, they can still play the winner of the 9 and 10.

For few games left I don't think they can easily move up to that spot since for sure their opponent would not give them an easy win as they are also want to protect their current spot and don't want to drop in standings. Maybe we can see the current teams to compete on play in and its amazing match up to see Warriors vs Lakers fighting for spot since its like we see a championship nostalgia where this rivalry is somehow the most awaited to see by fans.

I'm not only expecting for Warriors to give everything they can, but for sure all of the teams are in playoffs spot are doing good preparation since the standing is so close so for sure we can see a more tighter competition as they are now heading into playoffs.

Haven't seen the game as I don't have any bet, but if the Warriors lost without Luka then that is a big blow for them. The Warriors are in a momentum, have a winning streak and has a great chance to extend it today.

But I guess they might be tired about that big win against Houston and thinking that they could be really in the play-in. Just a matter who will be their opponent. I will have to check the highlights though.

James Harden became the 4th player in NBA history to pass the 25000 points, 6000 rebounds and 7000 assists threshold. He is an all-around player, and if he can wear a ring, he will be perfect.
There are some very strong teams in the West this year, but the Clippers are a serious contender with perhaps the best roster in their history. It will be a shame if this squad can't at least play the final.
Whenever his name is mentioned, I can still remember the trick that he did when he passed the ball too Kawhi and tried to block him.

Anyway, there is no doubt that the Clippers is a good team for this season. They're a championships caliber and just as the superteam that have been built to get into the finals.

It's true that it will be a regret if they don't get to the finals.

The Clippers, in my eyes, are not a contender and not a super team. They have 4 big names, but they rarely play together and some of them are past their prime.
If they face the Mavs in the 1st round, who are really strong since the trade deadline, its sayonara Clippers I would say.
There is a reason for that and I think about preservation and more of the possible more crucial matches that they'll have in the future.

But you're right that if they get along with Mavs in the 1st round, they might have problem. With that, I see both teams to be in great shape and can really flip one and the other.

Also, they are 17th in defensive rating this season, that's not a championship caliber defense, not even close.
But as for the teams advanced stats, Clippers is on the 5th for this regular season while Mavs is next to them at 6th.

I changed the poll, have you voted yet? Who's your favorite coach this season?
My preference, like everyone else who has voted so far, is Mark Daigneault, without whom Thunder wouldn't have achieved these results. He used the roster very well. SGA may not win the MVP award, but he proved that he is one of the best 3-4 players in the league. I think he's still very underrated.
I want to vote for Doc but he's not on the poll. But if it's on the one included on the poll, I'd still give props to Michael Malone.

He's very underrated and bringing the Nuggets to the finals and getting that chip last season is history. This time, they might get a back to back so I'd vote for him.

Many likes Mark but there goes my one vote for Malone.  Smiley
I'm torn between Mark Daigneault and Michael Malone but I gotta go with Malone too. I admire a lot what he has been doing with the Nuggets. Even though I am personally not rooting for them, they are a great team for a long time. I like how Malone handling the team and the style of play they have. With that rooster, he is getting the maximum. And with a superstar like Jokic, he manages the team accordingly. If they manage to win the championship again, they will be modern legends and Malone has quite an important part of it.
You forgot to vote him on the poll. There's already 9 votes for Mark so do it with Malone so we give him 2 votes.  Tongue

I can still see that he's got one vote and that vote was from me. What we like with Nuggets is that it is not a superstar team but Malone managed to maximize him to get their first chip and now, they're still consistent.
