I just saw an interview with Trae Young where he said that Donovan Mitchell had the idea to save the all star game with an emcee. The way they do at Rucker Park in New York. I think guys would be pumped to hear an emcee commentating the game live for everyone. It’s the best idea I’ve heard how to save the all star game.

It could be a good idea, it could be as Rucker games are one of the most anticipated games by fans and we have seen NBA players on that field. But I guess it's that everything has evolved already, and we have to accept that fact.

Now it's all shooting from the logo and who's going to shoot the farthest, Dame or Curry or Luka. And most of the players are taking it the way it is, a All-Star Break. I think in the Slam Dunk they can still improved it by putting players that give us electrifying dunks in the the first half of the season. And not just taking someone, like in the case of Jaylen Brown or Toppin.

Speaking of coaches, have your heard about the Nets coach Jacque Vaughn, being fired?

Quote
Jacque Vaughn was fired as head coach of the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets and it appears his plan on moulding the team’s offensive identity around Ben Simmons may have played a role in that decision.

That is according to NBA insider Shams Charania, who claimed “multiple players” — including Spencer Dinwiddie and Mikal Bridges — had been “pretty vocal behind the scenes for months now about how the offence was running”.

https://www.foxsports.com.au/basketball/nba/nba-2024-brooklyn-nets-fire-jacque-vaughn-as-head-coach-mikal-bridges-voices-concern-around-offence-built-around-ben-simmons/news-story/8d4abed8e28f888be0661c5b81c30954

So as a NBA coach, there is no security of tenure, even if the Nets give him a 4 year contract as far as I know, they still fire him as they don't like what the team is going this season. Really just sad how a couple of years ago, they have Nash as coach and with their own big 3. And then just for them getting KD, Kyrie and Harden, they gave up so many future picks and now we've seen that the risk didn't pay-off i the end.

That's the difference between a coach and a player because when a player suddenly doesn't play well after getting a huge contract, he will only be in the trading block. A good example of that is Jordan Poole, who wasn't contributing to his current team and still enjoying a good salary.

For coaches, they don't receive as much compared to the players, but they have no security as to how long they'll stay. I hope the NBA will change this because you never know what's the politics inside. At least give them some security since they aren't paid as much as some high-earning NBA players.

I do agree, the coach is the first head to roll if teams are not looking good, except maybe in the case of Adrian Griffin, has a winning record with the Bucks, but still he was fired from his position.

So yeah, there's no security tenure for this coach, and it's like they really have to live day by day coaching and making the team great. And there are cases too that players might have demanded the management to fire this coach and hire a new one.

I have seen a good suggestion to make it better. I have seen that maybe it should turn into USA vs World players next season to make it fun, and I think that is a wonderful idea. Maybe during the game players may not act like they care, but after a few wins from one side, the other side will care about it a lot for sure lol. Think about a team with Luka, Giannis, Jokic playing together, those guys would represent their own flags on their jerseys as well, and they will do their best without a doubt.

And in return, USA players would have to care, because if they lose then they are already in the USA, and they wouldn't want fans to hate them. This is actually a good idea that will make teams fight again, they will play defense, they will try to win for sure.
I think that's a good idea also. Not perfect and not going to definitely save the all star but it sure can give an excitement. iI recent years, the games have turned into a ridiculous show. Everything has turned into a strange show where there is no contact, no struggle, no sense of competition. The nonsense has evolved into something completely different this year. 211-186 was a ridiculous score.

I am pretty sure the NBA will consider some changes after a lot of people aren't happy with what the All-Star has become. Even former NBA legends and players are also airing their sides which mostly aren't satisfied. It's just crazy, what the hell with the shooting, layups, and dunks unguarded even to the slightest level?

A Team USA against the world is another great idea. I think this was done before and they should do it again. I remember there was also Team Lebron playing against Team KD that then.

So yeah, not much of a movement.

Unexpectedly, the Bucks decided to sign Gallinari, although there were rumors earlier that teams like the Clippers, Suns, and Bulls were interested in him. It's worth noting that his performance has worsened in recent years after that ACL injury, but I think he can still do something on the court and will probably be useful to the Bucks.

Oh, another good idea. I like that too. Maybe a comedian would do good as an emcee.

Gone are the days when everyone is waiting for the all star. As if it's more than the finals of the NBA. Too many exhibitions we see and players are taking it seriously.

Now, it's not the same anymore. Too many players take it as something just for the fun of the fans and not with the players as if they're forced to be there.

The pride, glory and honor of being part of it is what most of the players have been wanting just to be part of it. But now, those that haven't selected to be part of it might just have some thoughts that they're glad they were not part of it.
I agree. That's why we should not expect too much so that we won't be frustrated if another bad All-Star comes. What Michael Malone said last year was already a wake-up call for the NBA management. They won't play defense anymore like it's just a show of their dunks and three-point skills.
I don't know if next time a player will be proud when he is selected by the people to join the event because it seems like so many fans are not happy with it anymore.
It's okay to have fun but it's better to show some competitive spirit in a sport especially when a lot of kids are watching. Now, it has become a tradition that they won't play hard during this event which has become the norm, and worse it is being passed to the next era.

Two more days until the return of NBA basketball. I think I’m going through withdrawals. There haven’t been many moves as far as signing players either. Hopefully the players return refreshed and healthy to make a run into the postseason. I expected the Warriors to make some signings or something. Weird there aren’t more free agents finding homes.

But probably the biggest attraction is going to be the Lakers versus Warriors game on the 23rd February. I don't think anyone is going to miss that game.

By the way, I find it a little interesting that in the last match, the Warriors were able to win even though Stephen Curry did not score a lot of points but the match before that I think he got 40+ but they still ended up losing that game.

Curry doesn't need to score that high when his teammates are stepping up. If I recall correctly, that was a back-to-back game for them, so he might be a little tired after playing so hard in the game against the Clippers. Unfortunately, they melted down in the 4th quarter and lost to the Leonard-less Clippers.

The last time they played the Lakers, the game went to OT, and they lost by only 1 point. The line was -1.5 for the Warriors at that time; this time, it's -4.5. Obviously, bookies see their significant improvement, making them a high favorite. However, the Lakers have improved since signing Dinwiddie, so maybe it will be a close game again. I'm hoping the Warriors will avenge their previous loss though.

I think It might take a while before we see some signings, since it mostly is patch up just to catch up run they're on for now, teams with low chances aren't going to commit to any player right now, and teams in the play would also be threading the path carefully, and are only going go for what is lacking in their teams but only after proper determination that the signing is a necessity, the final few weeks will be the most interesting ones.

Spot on, and there is a lot that needs to be changed into the general process, perhaps just like the rising stars game, a lot of players are even more concerned about how they're being ignored from the selection and consider it politically inclined, I think perhaps a 4-6 teams elimination game will make it more interesting, where there will something like 6 captains, 3 from the west and east each with their own teams and all that, the first few elimination games could come up over the first today and the final for the Sunday night finale as usual, It will be a more of an all inclusive event such way.

This weekend was a break to all of them and Anthony Edwards did told that and they've just enjoyed it.

as there are no players in the NBA now whose dunking skills are even close to what players like Vince Carter or Gerald Green had.
You bet so.

Those were the glory days when the dunk competitions are always much awaited for. I remember Gerald Green when he's got that cake dunk but then still lose to Howard. I haven't followed a lot of these competitions but some really are remarkable during those times.

It just doesn't have that feel of all star games of old.
I hope that the NBA management have felt what the fans felt so they'll improve it next time.

Nobody takes the all star game seriously anymore. I don’t blame the players for not giving it a good effort either. Nobody wants to get hurt during the game. It’s like playing basketball on vacation for them. I think they should focus more on 1v1 or skills challenges with winners of events getting a million dollars. That would have them competing and would limit injuries.

[....]Hopefully the players return refreshed and healthy to make a run into the postseason.
The games in the all-star were not that competitive so they are likely to come back refreshed.

What do you guys think about the 76ers vs Knicks game?

I think the 76ers have a decent chance to win this game. Even though they have lost against the Miami Heat by a close margin, you know they have been doing well in recent times. They have been able to win the two matches previous to that if I recall correctly.

Yes, they did lose against the Warriors pretty badly. And let's be honest, the 76ers were pretty trash in that match. And they were also lucky that Stephen Curry did not have a very big performances in that game.

Best of luck in your beat, the 76ers are struggling as of late because the reigning MVP, Joel Embiid is injured. So not sure how you come up that they are doing good lately. They are 3-7 in their last games.

Although they have build a solid run prior to Joel getting injured and that's why they sit on the 5th place. But I don't think that they can maintain that position if Joel is not going to play in the second half of the season.
The Knicks are on a four-game losing streak so they are also struggling as of late.
The Sixers won 2 out of 3 games so I can understand why fugue said they are doing well recently.

I think this is going to be a hard-fought battle for both teams. I cannot pick one to be honest and I'm probably going for under 220 points.

Embarrassed  No more basketball until Thursday.

All Star weekend was a bit of a letdown. I don’t know why they don’t just put up a million dollars for the slam dunk winner and save the contest.

It seemed to me that this time, the dunks of the participants were of the same type and unremarkable. Unfortunately, even a 1 million dollar prize is unlikely to improve the situation, as there are no players in the NBA now whose dunking skills are even close to what players like Vince Carter or Gerald Green had.
That much skill and talent maybe not existing in today's players but surely nba players can do better. Even some of the regular in-game dunks were much better than this contest's dunks. Nba should definitely do something about this event. I think this year was the last straw.

Yeah it wasn't that fun.  I watched the three point contest as well as Curry versus Caitlin Clark deal, then the All-Star game itself the next day.  It just doesn't have that feel of all star games of old.  I also of course picked the West to win the game being that their team was just absolutely stacked, but that of course backfired.  I do believe the Easts score was the highest of all time lol.

Rare double double though for Dame, winning the 3 point competition and then the MVP, we've seen for the first time 200 points were surpassed.

And I read that there is a teas for next year 3 point, it could be the splash brothers, Steph Curry + Klay Thompson, vs Sabrina Ionescu + Caitlin Clark. This 3 point shoot up is the saving grace for this year's All Star, everyone wanted to watch how Steph will do against Sabrina, and Steph shows who is the greatest shooter in the planet right now, although Dame as well could be in the discussion.

The all star game was a dud.  Dame earned his points with so.e half court shots but for the most part it was layups and dunks with no one around.  It's turned into a glorified layup line.  KAT had 50 points and ypu would barely know that because he was driving the lane every time down 30.  Didn't pass etc.  Game turned into a joke.  They need to do so.ething lime put home court advantage in the finals to the winning side like baseball does.

Dame was really aiming for that MVP as he was trying so hard. He could have given that to Brown since he had already won the 3-point contest. LOL... but maybe that was his first time winning an MVP award in an all-star game, and he grabbed the opportunity. With lots of dissatisfaction from the fans, I hope the NBA will be able to see and make some changes in the next all-star game so it will not end up being another boring game.

The entertainment will only be possible if they play some defense, but no, they seem to be enjoying the game without being competitive. They make shots and do some layups with opponents not defending; they just trade baskets, and whoever gets the best shooting percentage wins. Every all-star game gets boring and boring; this is already alarming.

Ooh, I like that. I hope Adam Silver is here to read that.
Also, they can pull strings to invite other international players who are not playing in the NBA. It will probably cost some money but if the pay-per-view is successful then they will get it all back.

And, how many years has it been that the All-Star have been called lame? It's been too long and I think your idea will probably boost the number of fans not just in the USA but in the whole world.
They call an NBA championship a world champion, so why not prove to the world that they can also make a one-event competition where popular players from other countries could join? I like the idea a lot and it should happen next year.

Yeah for me it should be Tyrese Haliburton is the MVP of this all star game. Man I know Dame got the most Point, but Man these guys who managed the choice MVP didn't look at the stat specially at FGM and FGA. Dame got something 50% field goal while Tyrese Haliburton almost 90% Field goal. Damian Lillard deserve that booed from the crowd of Indiana Pacers. Dame should volunteer to gave it to tyrese Haliburton who deserves the All-star MVP award. Anyway congrats on your winning bets.
I agree. Tyrese Haliburton is shooting light out and he had a higher shooting percentage than Dame even though he made that half-court shot. It's not amazing for me anymore because they already did that last year.
Also, did you see Tyrese just standing on the side after their offense or after Dame shoots? I think he also felt like it was being robbed from him intentionally so he won't get back on defense anymore.
I think he did it 3 times, or maybe 4.
