This is the major loophole of the league since without these two big companies PBA will die since they are the one who's major contributor of the league so expect that commissioner or big bodies on the league cannot do anything once those companies target some good players outside or even on other team.

Because of that, we should hope that new big companies will soon join the PBA that can offer good salaries like San Miguel Corporation and MVP groups.

Adding to that, expect new rookies that will land on independent teams to be improved while they can and can become a rising stars and in the future, reach the All-Star or Superstar level. Not all good players can be signed to top companies. PBA is lacking good players, in general, that's why good talents are only limited to a few teams and are usually seen in top teams because of a much better contract offered by these companies.
And that's hopeless!  Roll Eyes Remember chook's to go express their interest to join the league and to avoid that to happen Purefoods change their name to Magnolia Chicken Juicy or something that will directly compete with chooks so PBA didn't give them a chance to be part of this league where the chance of business collisions may take place.

Unlike before where Tanduay directly competes with Gins kings and Swift directly competes with purefoods, but now, after SMB and MVP bought those franchise the competition are only focusing with these two giant companies but in terms of business they are not competing with wide advertisement and exposure by using PBA as their channel to reach more fans and audiences.

PBA is huge business for those tycoons they market their own product and company as well they get huge amount of money in the league so there's no surprising about them blocking some companies who want to compete them in the league. And this is totally unfair since if the commissioner just allow those companies who got interest to join the league for sure the PBA will grow more and fans will love to see more teams compete on championship also I think the manipulation of certain teams will be lessen unto this. But unfortunately this will not gonna happen since it seems SMB owner and TNT owners holds the decision of the league and the commissioner cannot say anything against on their own will.

That's up to the officials of the PBA, if they are willing to add more teams, that would be more exciting because I'm pretty sure many big companies will be interested to join, and at the same time, they'll be able to make PBA be the most entertaining basketball league in the Philippines.

Right now, looks like some leagues are getting some attention, it was supposed to be PBA getting most of the attention, I mean like 90%, but due to some speculation and a set up that has not been change, people are starting to look for other leagues.

Definitely, who would not want that to happen? For many decades, it's always been Cojuangco and Pangilinan who are controlling the PBA. Although they have their own board or management, but these two billionaires can always influence the management or the governor of the PBA.

But without these big companies, PBA can't stand alone. SMC and MVP companies are the most and biggest foundations of the league. Without their ability to pay a huge contract to sign good famous players, they might attract the viewers to watch the league.

Business as usual but we can't blame their dominance because they are willing to spend money on building a good team which they successfully achieved now. If only there are other big companies that can match their ability, then we can see a more independent big franchise. Alaska can be considered as big before but I think the pandemic hits them and one of the reasons why they sell their PBA rights.

The Road Warriors franchise is for sale, multiple sources told SPIN.ph.

Yes, saw this news a while ago.

According to @HomerSayson - The NLEX franchise is for sale as per his multiple sources.
According to @InsideThePBA - The NLEX franchise is NOT for sale as per one of the executives in the MVP Group. Homer is not credible, they add lol.

Either way, I don't mind that thing. It will open for a more independent team and that is what matters for a balanced league.

Well if this evens out the supposed imbalance on teams in the league, I'm all for it. Perhaps one of the execs in the MVP group does not want to spill the news before they finalized a deal with some other organization interested in the team. That's what they always do in corporate: never divulge a potentially bad negative news before everything is already settled behind the scenes.

PBA will still be there, someone will buy that team if ever just like what happened to Alaska, if the rumor is true then we might be seeing new company to handle NLEX which I also think is a good one. Maybe the pandemic really hits them hard and that’s why they are losing much money on this one, we don’t know how they make money here but I believe PBA is still a good league maybe they just need to update some of the rules to stay active.

PBA viewership is still high, and the more teams a company has on the league, the more stake it has on the profit-sharing. Though it might be that MVP group wants to focus more on their other teams rather than maintain 3, and offload their personnel on that team to the two other teams to get better results.

On the other hand, it also gives a signal that PBA is not as popular as before anymore. Well, I like your idea because it will really make the league more competitive, no more sister teams, that would be nice as people will stop speculating that some games are fixed, or the league itself.

This is what I infer from this news/rumor as well. First, Alaska now Nlex is on sale. This is maybe a signal that profit from PBA is already weak, so they are selling their teams. They are also losing their stars to other leagues in the region. Are we seeing the start of the end of PBA as the top league in the Philippines? Hopefully not, most of us have grown up watching PBA. It is already a part of Filipino culture.

I just wish him all the best with his career back to ROS and I guess he's got more control there than what he has left with NLEX.

Since Rain Or Shine has no sister teams, there should be no supposed hindrance on their future trades. I miss the strong ROS where in All-Filipino, they can compete competitively. It's good to see that Coach Yeng is again working in a team that has no sister teams. He is capable of extracting the very best of a certain player and can turned that into a good role player.

Although I think he is changed now and not that strict in practice. His bad mouthing for any errors that his players committed during the game is more of giving a determination rather than discouragement.
Coach Yeng is a veteran coach and just look how the ROS way back years ago when he is the coach at that time. ROS is going in the playoffs, and they are one of the strongest independent teams at that time. When he left, that's when the ROS crumble.

Looking at the roster of ROS right now, they don't have an all-star that can carry the team, but I believe like you do that he is capable in extracting the talents of these players. Players like Nambatac, Santillan and even Shaun Ildefonso. I believe that he can help these players unleash their full potential. I just hope that MVP or SMC will not milk ROS and will make unequal trades "again".

We've known Coach Yeng as a fierce coach. He is yelling at his players and spitting bad words to them in the court but outside, there are many players saying that he is the complete opposite.
When he was with ROS in the past, it was like the best days of it, and now that he's back. That's what he's going to do with ROS again. Yeng can maximize the players that he's got with ROS and if there are possible trades that will benefit his team, he'll do it for sure.
Those words that he spits out to his players are also like giving that sense of urgency to his players that they should do better than what they're showing to him.

I think we just have to wait for the announcement, but good thing there are rumors.

Honestly, if I will give my own opinion regarding that issue, I'm more of thinking that it was partially true.

Maybe NLEX is really up for sale but not official yet or still in consideration. Officially parting ways with Coach Yeng is the start. I can't think of a reason why NLEX will offer a corporate job for Coach Yeng with a decent salary instead of putting him in a much higher op that is still related to basketball operations of the team. It means they just want to assure that Coach Yeng will still have a decent job after selling NLEX but since Coach Yeng wants to continue his career in basketball, he rejected the NLEX offer even with a decent salary and choose to stay as a Head Coach.

Again, this is just my opinion. Smiley

That will be the result, it will become a balanced league and not only the popular teams will be playing in the finals. Also, it will eliminate the rumors that some teams are just farm teams of the stronger teams, so overall it's good for the league.

After coach Yeng Guiao's departure from NLEX seems like the above statement is coming to fruition. Though there are no solid evidence yet but if there is smoke, there must be a fire lol. Attaching below the article written by a very controversial Spin.ph contributor Homer Sayson, you be the judge if what he is writing is true or just pure rumors.

It's a great news IMO, that way, those owners who owned plenty of teams will slowly lose control of the league. I would be even happier if teams like Meralco, Magnolia, and Ginebra will be up for sale so Pangilinan and Cojuangco would only own one team.

Different approach and different take from the players, they are all pro and understand the value of everything, if you are a good player you will not look for the bad side but instead you will treat that as a good motivation if in case your mentor yell at you. There's always a good reason that you develop and adjust. As long as you are willing to handle and take it, things will be go smoothly between you and your coach.

We don't know yet if there's a good improvement that will take place. Coach Yeng just went back and for sure, a lot of adjustment was needed.

Belga and Norwood are no longer in their prime even they are still deadly, but the body movement, especially their speed, is un-match now with prime superstars of their opposing teams.

NLEX wasn't really a popular team. It's always the TNT or Meralco which usually goes to the finals, so they don't need a good coach I believe. Well, coach Yeng was good but I think he was not given everything he needs, the reason why his team was underperforming.

Actually, NLEX has a big chance making it to the Finals last season in the Governors Cup because of their import KJ McDaniels. As mentioned by other user here previously, KJ McDaniels were unable to finish his playing career in NLEX because of the delays that surely affected his own timeline to follow. He is averaging a monster stats on that conference and a top candidate as a Best Import if only he able to finished his tenure.

Aside from that, NLEX finished 2nd on that conference and still secures the twice-to-beat advantages in the playoffs even the team faced several problems like, best cager Jericho Cruz rejects the NLEX offer and choose to signed with SMB, Kiefer Ravena leaving the team for his Japan stint, Calvin Oftana's season ending injury and lastly, KJ McDaniels decision t return home.
That was a golden moment for NLEX but still failed to utilize it, they have multiple opportunities but it looks like it’s not their time yet. Well, with a lot of changes happening on them right now I’m pretty sure they are still working to be one of a great team in PBA. From getting a good players up to hiring a good coaches, NLEX is trying to rebuild their reputation and it may take some time before we saw the result. Let’s see if they can get another good import this time to help their key players against the big teams.
