Exactly, it's good exposure for Converge because they are really competing very well now. The telcos we know are the smart, pldt, and globe only, some of us doesn't know that there's converge which is also a big company. Instead of paying for advertisement, buying a team may give them more benefit in the long run.

I, for one, don't know that Converge is an internet service provider lol, so I think this is good exposure for them and good for us internet consumers, as well as there, are more options to us on what we will subscribe to.

So tonight will be the start of the semis game and interesting enough for the bookies to give such a narrow spread/handicap so I will go for the favorite on the first game.

Magnolia -3.5 @1.81 vs Bolts, I think the Hotshots can cover this spread if they win this game.

Well, just another news that came in. It's Dennis Uy of Converge that has bought the franchise of Alaska and we're probably now going to see Converge franchise on the league for the next conference. Here's the breakdown on how much the deal was.
We have 2 new teams coming into the next conference already. The EASL and the Converge.

Well, there have been some rumors already that they are the top runners in buying the franchise of Alaska back when the Alaska company said that they will sell their franchise and now it became true. The question right now that comes into my mind is that, the Aces have been an independent team for 3 decades since it started. Will the Converge team be an independent team or it will also join in either MVP or SMC.
If other billionaire bought the franchise of Alaska, I believe he is capable to be more independent and there's no reason for them to join MVP group of companies because they are really different. He wont buy the franchise if there's no money here, he's looking for a long term benefit of this one so we can expect a more competitive tournament. Let's not hope new teams to join other group of companies to avoid suspicion and to have a healthy league. Looks like Alaska won't be an Alaska team anymore, it will be changed for sure.

however, isn't it Dennis Uy the owner of Phoenix Fuel Masters too?

Yes, it was Dennis Uy who owned the Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters.
you can verify it in wiki, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phoenix_Super_LPG_Fuel_Masters

He is now trying to compete with the Pangilinan and SMC group having more than one team in the PBA.

Let's se how this goes.  Grin
Just a correction.
There are two Dennis Uy.

1. Dennis Ang Uy is the one that owns Phoenix Petroleum and Dito telecommunity, the one who's from Davao.
2. Dennis Anthony Uy, the owner of Converge, a Kapampangan. The one who purchased the Alaska franchise.

It's quite confusing but they're two different people.

I did some research after your post and I found out that there are two different Dennis Uy, Thanks for that bro.

Well, now that everything is clear, it's still nice to see that Converge will finally be in the PBA, and based on my research, globe considers them as their biggest competitor, not DITO which was partly owned by Dennis Uy (Owner of Phoenix).

@blockman, thanks for that information, I also thought that it was owned by the same person.

Anyway, let's look at the betting odds for tomorrow's games.

Bolts +4.5 against Magnolia.
Road Warriors +4.5 against Ginebra.

I like the betting odds here, I would still take the favorite though.

Yeah its quite confusing if who among them is the real owner of the said team since if we can confirm that the Dennis Uy we discuss is from Davao well most provably we can really say that they have capabilities to compete with top big franchise in the league. Anyways lets just hope we can see fairness on new team and they will not be a another farm team of SMC group.

Yeah, I've remembered that rumor that it's really the Dennis Uy of Converge that's going to take the franchise of Alaska. Now, that Alaska is out so there's no more reason for the league to hide it to the public that they've already made the deal.

That's a good news for everyone, more teams added in the PBA will make the league more interesting to watch. You know, when more teams added, the more the league will be less manipulated. however, isn't it Dennis Uy the owner of Phoenix Fuel Masters too?

Guest team are really more exciting to watch, many are not happy anymore with the current set-up of PBA and now that one team announced their exit on PBA, looking for the next team to come in PBA is not easy sot the guest set-up is a good alternative for now. Let’s wait for their final announcement after this current conference, a lot can change next season most probably.

How about the bet in the series? do you want to set up a competition?

Actually, you can set up for us, hehe.

I would also love to put my bet too but if there's no one who will set up a competition, then we have no choice but to bet on the betting sites with very limited odds. You know, they don't even have a series betting, it's just a per game but for me, it's not so exciting compared to the NBA odds.

No need for a setup or anything. Just offer a bet here then see who's the one that will take it. I have always done that before and currently have lots of current bets here in our place. P2P gambling in general and the usual betting here since then. Series match. The demand here is more active during the PBA Finals.

But if someone has free time to organize it, I will gladly support it or even do some assistance.

We know who are PBA fanatics here and I'm sure if we worked out together, we will have a successful friendly competition.

Yeah, you are right. Odds in the bookies for PBA games are not so attractive and the market/options are limited.

If only I have the luxury of time I would set up a free competition for us PBA followers so we can have fun in the coming weeks.

There's some twist that we're going to see on the next season of PBA. There's now a guest team that's going to play and this could be the start of PBA being open now with other guest teams in the future.
What can you say about this development? They're now starting to change and probably this is one of the factors that they can see to get back the solid fans of PBA.
Like what happened to Thirdy when he went to B-League, for sure this addition of teams from other countries will create a domino effect again thus there will be more teams outside PH that will join.

Nothing but positive news for this at least for me. The league is now open for more teams outside PH and with regards to audiences, I'm not pretty sure if this move by the management will make the people watch again live. Anyway, I'm excited to see more players playing in our national league. More teams = more competition and with this, MVP and SMC will not just simply dominate the league again like what they are doing.
I think that they're on the right track. Since the usual format doesn't seem to be good anymore for them and many fans are disappointed, this is something new or a refresh for more fans.
This will lead all of the fans to wait for something better and something to await for when the next conference has started. But in the meanwhile, we have to wait until this current conference finishes. But it can't be helped since they've already given that news and it's official, everyone is going to think of it and they've successfully got the attention of everybody.

The very factor that I'm waiting, I'm so tired of seeing these two franchise dominates the league, hopefully with this move from the organization we will see more talents and more hardship inside the floor, hoping also that the "hulog" rumors will be lessen though not sure if that kind of manipulation which never been proven will be remove inside this league.

If things will bring the fans' attention and let them to watch back, the domino effect will favor both viewers and the organization, more people to watch, more money to collect. Roll Eyes Cool

Will it be like the ASEAN Basketball League like the Alab Pilipinas which represent the Philippines? I think that's also good but pure Filipino player is better as we can really see them improve and that's the work of the PBA. You know, in an international competition like FIBA, you cannot take the imports, so it's important that our local players will improve their skills and that is by giving them more playing time.

This is what we are talking before probably, the EASL is mentioned again in that article you shared, although I have not read fully what it could bring to the league but I find it exciting. just to quote some from the same article.

Yes, it's exciting and interesting that there's something like this again. It's been so long since they've done this type of format and it's really going to be an awaited opening again once this conference is done.

Sorry, I'm busy these days, maybe bisdak40 for us, and I will assure you guys that I will participate as long as the entry fee is affordable. The game will start on Wednesday, I might try to parlay here but I'm sure in game 1 I will put my bet on the Magnolia, not sure if it's ML only or I'll take the spread.
